Jai: You are getting me wrong son.
Shaun: You find it easy to accpet your son because he is considered to be one of the best students. But let me tell you something Mr. Walia Iam what because my sister choose to put those dancing shoes at a time when she was supposed to be playing. I can never pay her back for the things she has given up in life for me.
Jai: I know the relationship you share with her. But it was just a shock..
Shaun: What shock that she attends a full time dancing school and she is an artist. Let me tell you something every morsel of food on that dining table we had for dinner is because my sister choose to dance rather than go to a formal school. And do you know what it feels like to know that your little sister works fourteen gruelling hours on her feet so that I get to go to the best boarding school, clothes, clubs you name it. She didn't do that for herself . She did for me. Can you suggest something that I can do to repay all that. No wouldn't be able to do it Mr. Walia. For that you have to come down from that high horse and so called rich society to a common mans world to understand.....

Chapter 17 B
Jai he was trying to get out bed but Bani wouldn't let go.
Jai: Bani let me just get the jug it's on the far end of the night stand.
Bani. I want to sleep. And I don't like be alone.
Jai felt strange that his wife who is confident of herself to do things is so scared to be alone during the night. He knew she always slept with Massi. And now the second night she waited for Jai in the study to finish all the work to come to bed saying that she didn't like to sleep alone.
Jai: I am not going any where I told you.
Bani's eyes were closed and he knew she was talking in her sleep.
Bani: Everyone says the same thing and they all leave me and go never to return.
To say Jai was shocked was nothing and found it really strange that she missed all the people around her. Jai: Who left you everyone is here only know they just went to Bombay and you can reach there in a few hours time.
Bani: No Mama went before then Papa, Dadaji also went without even saying bye to me.
That's when it struck Jai she was an orphan the only relative that kept and took care of her was his Massi. And mostly she lived in hostel as Massi had other commitments and only for the past two years they have been living together and now Jai had uprooted her from that. And one more thing dawned to Jai his wife now is trying to find a place for herself in his life and she is very apprehensive of family ties as all the people that she had seen while growing up had left her at some point of time. She was lonely in a crowd of people just like him. Jai could associate with that very much. But he doubted if he was the right person for her to help her come out of her insecurities. Can two lonely people be there for one another.
Before moving back t Bombay he did get to find partly the answer but he wasn't very much ready to accept it.
Well his worries were put to rest as they got into a routine of doing things. Next day they were all set to see the farm. The morning it brought another set of argument over the dress.
Bani: You want me wearing the sari. How am I supposed to do riding in that.
Jai: I did not say that we are going riding. I only said I would show you the horses.
She had sulked and argued for another half hour but Jai wouldn't give in saying that she has to new with the terrain before she could go riding and the arena for riding is not good as it rained last night and there would be water puddles everywhere.
But Bani was left with the choice of being holed up in the bedroom or the prospect of going out the whole morning she had to make it quick and Jai was being very patient but then she could see it wouldn't be too long before he would give up on her and go sit in the study waiting for her to come and apologize for her behavior. She wasn't going to do that for sure.
So in spite of it being a terrible start for her she enjoyed around with Jai seeing the farm. Especially the horses. There was a new horse (toofan) which was trained to do show jumping. It was a bit wild one. Jai had said it was one of his priced processions. Bani commented that it was just like the owner. Jai teased her are you comparing me to the horse. Bani: looks like you both have lot n common.
Jai: Giving an amused smile I can see that now especially around you.
Bani: Why
Jai: Well the horse seemed to be putty in your hands . It liked all the candies you fed him and it liked being caressed by you..
Bani knew what he was talking about.
Bani: I beg to differ on that my husband is the biggest MCP I have encountered. And now come to think of it the horse has some better traits in him.
Jai: Oh really but then you wouldn't like me any other way so why complain. So leave the horse out of it.
Bani felt like throwing something on to his head him and his ego.
Bani got to see another side of Jai were he actually took care of things that he possessed he really looked into how things were done to take care of all the animals. That was not something expected and he as willing to give a helping hand too. Jai had not missed the surprised look on her face and he had commented too. It's my way to unwind form the business but now I have better ways to unwind.
Bani: Like
Jai: Spend an afternoon with my wife in bed.
Bani was embarrassed to the core as she felt some of the workers might have heard. But he was cool as a cucumber.
Bani: I am not coming anywhere near that bedroom.
Jai: Who said we can do it only in the bedroom.
Bani was not liking one bit were the conversation was heading. He loved to tease her and make her blush.
Jai was a man of his word they did spend the afternoon in each others arms and the room he choose was his study. And now whenever Bani entered the room all she could think of was the way Jai had made her his on the couch.

One evening he got a panic call form Bani asking where he was. She was crying and upset. Jai for the first time felt helpless and he couldn't get a cream of what was happening in t eh house. All he could understand was she was talking about the new maid hired to take care of her needs and he knew she was pregnant.
Jai: Bani stop crying . It will take some time for me to reach there. Listen baby
Bani: No you have to come or she will die I swear.
Jai: No one is going to die baby she will be alright.
Bani: No she slipped and fell and there was blood all over the floor and don't know they got a quack lady to look I'm telling you the truth.
Jai: Ok fine baby I hear and let me see what can be done.
Bani: She needs a good doctor and hospital care or she is going to die because of me.
Jai: He knew then if something happened to that woman Bani would never forgive herself so he decided to take action immediately. Just give the phone to Tony baby I will do the arrangements..
Bani hurriedly went looking for him and seeing his madam distraught and Jai wanting to speak to him he knew this day was not going to be great. Jai liked things to run smoothly and if wife was upset because of what just happened now sure everyone is going to get a dose of his anger.
Jai: What the hell is going on over there Tony and why is Bani so upset. What happened to the woman.
Tony. She had a fall but the local nurse maid has come and she said everything will be fine.
Bani: What fine you are not telling the truth give me the phone here.
Jai could hear Bani screaming at Tony and he knew his wife never lost cool over the workers. And her being hysterical over the phone had him worried so
Jai: Tony listen take her to the nearest hospital. And ensure that she is taken well care off. If something happens I will not spare anyone. And I'm coming there. And tell that care taker and Kamala (his wife and a little elderly lady) to be ready with an explanation as to what is going on. Do I have to see things at home also what do I pay them for.
Tony just ran to the room and told the jeep to be brought out. He just barged into the room and saw that just like his madam had said the condition was not so good the lady was becoming pale and she was in lot of pain. He just hope things would turn out to be fine or else they all could kiss good bye to their job.
Kamala on seeing Tony in the room was upset and was shouting where was he planning to take her and what was he doing here and all.
Tony: Listen save the explanation for the master he is coming and he is very upset. Madam called him and he has instructed to take her to the hospital.
Kamala: What does our madam know about child birth she is only married now.
Tony: Well that doesn't matter as now you all should be worried what your madam will say to the master. As you all must have realized by now that he doesn't like seeing her upset.
And true to his word as Jai stepped into house. Bani hugged him and all she said was she wanted to go and see her in the hospital. And Jai saw that his wife was crying. He couldn't just understand his wife at times. The maid had been only hired for about ten days. Yes she bonded well with the girl as she was around the same age of Bani. She was expecting the first child all the input was given by Bani. Why does she get so attached to people was Jai's confusion.
Jai: Listen baby I spoke to the hospital doctor they are taking care and she is being operated. Let Tony come back and then we will. See.
Jai whole evening had gone pacifying her that it was not her fault that she had fallen of=f the steps.
Bani: The drink was hot so I wanted her to get another glass. She tripped on the carpet and fell of the steps. I never thought she would slip off.
Jai: Yes baby accidents happen just relax. And finally exhausted she fell asleep in Jai's arms early into the night. He just kept looking at his wife tear stained cheeks and was getting mad. No one would escape his wrath for putting tears in his wife's eyes.
To say he was now furious with the rest of the staff being so careless was the least. He blasted especially the caretaker and his wife Kamala
Jai: Why have I appointed you all to take care of the house. If my wife has to look into the day to day affairs and keep tabs of you all then you might as well not come for work.
The caretaker and his wife apologized profusely and from then on they had ensured all his wife's need s were taken care off. She was asked opinion in everything of the running of the house. Bani found it strange. But she didn't comment on it as she knew her husband would have had some hand in it. Yes after her panicking stage she realized that being the owner of the house she should have instructed what should have been done rather than call Jai and create so much of commotion resulting in everyone getting a good blast.
So she said now on she will ensure that things ran smoothly here. And she happy also the maid had delivered a healthy boy but was kept in hospital for further examination.

And if Jai thought this would be the last time Bani would cause him a reason to worry well he was highly mistaken. Two days before they were to go to Bombay he received a call from the stables saying that Bani had gone in search of toofan as he had got out of the arena while the stable boy was getting the other horse.
Jai just blasted over the phone and said he was coming down there.
By the time Jai came down with the jeep and his men Bani had located the horse and was feeding him sugar candy. Jai didn't know if he was relived to see her in one piece or he wanted to blast at her stupidity for taking another horse and going behind toofan. He knew she did regularly riding every evening but inside the arena and he was very particular about that someone be there the whole time.
Seeing Jai Bani smiled but one look from him Bani knew she was in trouble but couldn't understand why he should be so angry. Jai didn't speak a word as they drove the jeep and the men followed with both the horses.
He just got her to the bedroom. Removed his shirt while Bani patiently waited him to blast her as she knew this was the calmness before the storm. But to her surprise he came close to her and just started unbuttoning her shirt.
Bani just pulled away from him saying I can do that.
Jai just looked up with those stormy eyes: Yes I don't deny my wife can do lot of things. But now her wound needs to be taken care off.
Bani: that is only a slight scrape of the skin.
Jai: Let me be the judge of that. And now h e finished unbuttoning and he just removed the shirt off but Bani Though she was wearing her petticoat she felt naked today in front of him and she was not sure of standing like this way in front of him. Bani tried to cover her self up with her hands.
Jai: There is nothing there that I haven't seen or have you lost your sense completely that now you don't recognize your husband. And jai continued and he examined the scrape and got an antiseptic cream.
Bani: I know who you are. If you are upset you can say that you don't have to remain so distant. And I will apply that cream myself after I shower.
Jai: My dear don't put words into mouth and he just pulled her and it hurt the same place where she had scraped her skin. And he got her into a robe and asked her to get showered.
Before entering the washroom Bani saw Jai was making a drink for himself and knew that she had really upset him so she killed her pride and apologized as she didn't like seeing him upset.
Bani: I am sorry if I upset you but I was only trying to help you. That horse as one your priced possession.
Jai: Next time let me know before hand when you try out these helping hands of yours. So I can brace myself for the inevitable.
Bani: That got onto Bani's nerves here she was apologizing and he wasn't bothered or trying to understand her. You should thank me for getting the horse back and here you are being mad. What did I do wrong?
Jai couldn't believe this.
Jai: My darling wife loves to be very generous and loves to help everyone I can understand that but just don't over do it. And as for thanking you. You need to be spanked for not listening to my instructions.
Bani: I'm not one of your workers whom you keep blasting at. I am your wife and I like to be treated that way
Jai: Good you at least know that you are my wife. Then live up to one then we can decide how I treat you.
Bani was frustrated and he could see it but the whole thing would just pop out if she said something radical and that is just what happened. They got into their first heated argument.
Bani: Why so now I don't live up to your expectation you could have thought about it few weeks back. And she was going to get into the washroom to drown in her tears. She was hurt that Jai didn't think of her as a wife rather a kid who need to be spanked for not listening to him. Jai just turned her and spoke harshly
Jai: I never regret over the choices I have made but what you did today was childish. Going behind that horse back to get toofan you rode in an unknown terrain what would I say to everyone if something happened to you.
Bani: So that is the problem what you would say to others.
Jai: do not twist my words.
Bani: As for saying to others I wonder if anyone would question you. One more thing are there separate set of rules that you can do and which I cannot do.
Jai: Have you ever gone by the rules Looks like while growing up no one bothered to correct so it's my job now. And do not belittle yourself. Look around you there are lot of people that care for you.
Bani: I know who all cars for me and I am not a job for anyone. And I thought you would be pleased now that I take interest in the running of things rather than sitting whole day doing nothing.
Jai: Do a favor and just stick with your studies so I don't have to keep wondering what you are unto when I'm in the office.
Bani: Better than that just leave me in Bombay less hassle for you know and you wouldn't have to answer to anyone then.
Jai: I have told you Bani many times you a re mine and you can forget of going and staying with Massi every time we have fight what is mine I know to take care of it very well and how ever difficult you try to be with me be sure you will not escape me am I clear. And one more thing I like thing 's to be followed when instructed don't break your head over it. I may not be so forgiving every time.
Bani: You are a big brute you know that dictator.
That just snapped Jai and he came down on Bani . Me the brute you get to see not how much of a brute I can be and kissed her hard leaving her bruised on the lips. And he was hurting her purposefully and Bani was trying to get out of his hold but he was too strong for her. And now he had her pushed down to the carpeted floor and he had her there captive and it was hurting her. But when he saw tears in her eyes he relaxed and it dawned to him what he was doing and slowly started to ease up and just at that moment he had bared his heart to her.
Jai: You really had me sacred today you know baby and you call me a brute if something had happened to you how would I live with that. Baby why did you do it. Do you feel that horse was more important to me than you.
That was enough for Bani Jai felt Bani go really sad and she was having a mixed emotion on her face how could someone care for her so much.
Bani In between her tears she asked him a question which jolted Jai to the core Do you love me that much then why do you get mad at me. But I love you like this way Never change. And I just wanted you to be pleased with me. Sorry
Jai: I am happy the way you are. I don't mind your child ness but just don't hurt yourself. And pushed her into the washroom. Leaving Jai to wonder about what passed between them just now.
Jai couldn't understand when love had come into all this. He had always run away from that kind of emotions and entanglements. The feeling with Bani was new but was it love like how Bani had put it to him innocently and unknowingly.
