Oh' Boyfriend, Where Art Thou? What is fourteen percent of hundred and eighty two? Okay, think magic box; fourteen over a hundred equals x over hundred and eighty two. Now figure out the value of x by cross multiplying, so x equals fourteen times hundred and eighty two divided by hundred…

"Gauri!" Oh gosh, it is Nitesh, can't he see I am busy doing the work his 'fiance' is supposed to be doing. Keeping my head buried in the file, I stick up my index finger signalling to Nitesh to wait. Fourteen times hundred and eighty two is… "Gauri?" Nitesh speaks again, in a low but firm tone. This is useless, he can't do any work and won't let any one else do any either.

"What?" I answer, slamming my hand on the file and raising my head to look at him. Beside him stands the handsome stranger from this morning. Let me guess, he is a new hire who needs to be shown around the office. Now this is what I have been reduced to, doing these petty tasks, bringing tea, giving tours of the office. I am smart, intelligent woman who deserves respect, and will not be treated this way. I roll my eyes at both of them and continue, "Well what is it? You do know I have work to do Nitesh, unlike you who sits on his…"

"Gauri…" He interrupts just as I expected, "do you remember what we spoke about this morning?" He speaks again, in a low tone, leaning a bit closer to me.

Leaning back, I respond, "Do you mean when you asked me to do your sweet fiance's work?" I can see the handsome stranger smile. What is he finding so amusing, to smile about? I will get my revenge; will show him the furthest and most troublesome, printing station and ask him to use that. We'll see who is smiling then, when his paper will get jammed each time.

"No Gauri!" Nitesh says gritting his teeth; I can see he is getting impatient.

"It's okay Nitesh, I will introduce myself." The handsome stranger now interrupts extending his hand forward towards me. Wow, for a new hire, he has guts to call his boss, by name instead of sir; I like him. "Hi, I am Shashank."

"Gauri." I say, shaking his hand.

"Gauri, is Maya, you met her in my office, her assistant." What? Did he just call me Maya's assistant? I feel like someone has stuck their hand down my throat and pulled out my voice box. I want to speak but cannot. "And Gauri this is Mr. Shashank Sharma, here for a 'visit', to see that things are running 'smoothly'." Nitesh speaks emphasizing the word visit and smoothly.

Uh oh. The word, 'visit' rings a bell and I realize this man before me is no new hire, to be misguided and pushed around. He is the CEO of our company. The man that holds my future in his hands. The only man who can ever give me a chance to redeem myself and rise above Nitesh and get the promotion I deserve. He is the man I must impress. Panicked I stand up from my chair, causing a mini earthquake on my desk table as my knee painfully bangs under the table. Biting my lower lip I suck in the pain, and stick my hand out to shake Mr. CEO's hand. He gives me a strange look, then smiles and takes my hand. Only when his warm hand touches mine, do I realize that I already shook his hand. Great. Awesome. Now he not only thinks I am an overly emotional nut case, due to my hysterics from this morning; but I am pretty sure now he thinks me a confused and absent minded employee as well.

After he leaves with Nitesh, I wallow in my sorrow of losing all hope to ever rise above this job, where I am apparently Maya's assistant. Opening the file back up, I continue my work, when I hear the clicking of Maya's sandals. I shut my eyes and hope that she leaves me alone. "So Gauri, why don't you tell me about your new boyfriend?"

"What? Gauri has a new boyfriend?" Palak comes running to my desk, hoping on foot as she is trying to get her sandal on. Great, you could yell and scream at Palak to get the photocopying done and she seems to be deaf and now she comes running. I roll my eyes at both of them and go back to my file.

"Oh come on Gauri, tell us know. When did you meet this new boyfriend of yours?" Palak probes further.

"He is not new!" I blurt out, without wanting to.

"Buh…but…" Maya stutters confused.

"But what? I was dating Nitesh till yesterday right. Well let's just say he was not the only in love with someone else." I know I am just digging the hole deeper and deeper but that look on Maya's face is just priceless.

"Oh!" Maya replies and takes a seat back on her desk.

"What does he do?" Palak asks, pushing the files to the side and plopping on my side table.

Now I have choice, to tell them that I don't know him that well and hope to save myself, somewhat or… I look at Maya from the corner of my eye, she is twisting her pencil and I can just her already burning in jealousy. I decide to roast her further. What is one more lie? "Oh he is like super rich…"

"Oh so that is what is job is he makes money."

"Yah…Palak." Wow, is that girl really that stupid. Anyways makes my lying a lot easier, don't even have to get into the details.

"Oh I am sure he is not as good looking as Nitesh." Maya boosts.

"Oh I won't bet on it Maya. I mean, he has the dreamiest eyes. Looking into them you can get lost in their depths. And his hair, oh, every time I put my hand through it, it's like feeling silk. His body, mmph, he would put Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom to shame. And his face, wow, the most handsome man I have ever laid my eyes on."

"Oh Gauri, he sounds yummy." Palak dazes off into space thinking of my man.

"He sounds too good to be true." Maya suspects.

Oh gosh, has she caught on.

"When do we get to meet him?" Palak insists, shaking my arm, like a five year old asking for her birthday present.

"Err…" I still have to figure out when am I going to find him.

The phone at the reception desk rings and Palak jets off to attend it. I heave a sigh of relief. What have I done? Described a man who doesn't exist. I need to talk to someone, tell someone. Ipshitta. Thank goodness for instant messaging I fire off a message to her right away. "Ipshitta I have to tell you something very important."

Ipshitta is responding…

I see Nitesh and Mr. CEO approaching again; I quickly minimize the window and pretend to be working. Nitesh turns towards his room and I relax, only to find Mr. CEO standing right beside me looking over my shoulder. I look up at him and give him a nervous smile.

"You have a message." He says, pointing to my computer screen, where I see, Ipshitta's name flashing in orange. To open or not to open? Knowing Ipshitta she probably wrote a long message guessing all things I could tell her, which would not seem very "office work" to Mr. CEO here.

"Oh, it's nothing important. Just a bored co-worker."

"Oh, so are you saying Ms. …" he leans over my shoulder to look on my computer screen before continuing, "Ipshitta, is not doing her work and bothering people on instant messaging?"

Oh Shoot. "No! What I meant to say is…" I swallow hard, "she just came out a Board meeting. She is just telling me what went on, the important details."

"Oh, the board meeting. Actually I would like to know the details too. Why don't you check it, I will catch up as well."

Uh oh. "Okay…" I put my hand on the mouse and slowly drag the arrow over the orange flashing window. Sweat beads forming on my forehead. All that remains, now, is the dreaded, 'Click'.

"It's okay Gauri." Mr. CEO says, laughing and placing his hand on my arm. "I was joking. I know what it is like; I was in your position at one time. Relax." Joke? What kind of sadistic joke was that? I don't find it at all funny. Yet, I laugh, a little too loud.

"So Mr. Sharma, you will be coming to our get-together, right?" There, I was wondering how she had been silent for so long. She has started, doing what she does best, sucking up to her boss.

"Is it a couple thing? Do I have to bring a date?" Mr. CEO asks.

"Well, no it is not. But I am sure a good looking man like you will have no trouble finding someone. I am sure there are girls lined up for you to throw a glance their way." I almost gag, hearing Maya say that. She has really out done herself this time, in the sucking up department. I really feel like standing up and applauding at her immense talent for coming with such cheesy lines.

"Well what do you say Gauri, would you like to accompany me?" I open my eyes wide and look at Mr. CEO for a while, Maya does the same. Did he just ask me out? Did Mr. CEO just ask me out? Before I can answer my own question or Mr. CEO's, the wicked witch of the west opens her mouth.

"Actually, Gauri is taken. She has a boyfriend. She is dating someone else." I look at her, and glare. Two seconds ago she was saying my boyfriend was too good to be true and now she is announcing it to the world.

"I should have known such a beautiful girl like Gauri, how can anyone resist her?" I look up at him, eyes full of sympathy, not for him but for me. The day I get asked out by not an only a gorgeous man, but also a successful one, I have a fake boyfriend whom I must be faithful to.

"What you have a boyfriend? And you didn't tell me, your best friend?" I hear Ipshitta whine, standing with arms on her waist at the end of the hallway. I should have guessed she would rush up here, when I wouldn't answer her instant message. She marches right up to me, and when she does not acknowledge Mr. CEO, I realize she does not who he is. I pray that she does not say something absolutely ridiculous. "So who is he? When did you meet him? Why didn't you tell me? When am I going to meet him? And …Gauri… I am so happy for you." She throws her arms around me and I know she has tears flowing out her eyes. I am not the only one who is overly emotional. "Now we all can double date. And plus you will have so much more fun at my wedding, without people harassing you with questions about why you are still single." Anupam. Wedding. I had forgotten, Ipshitta was engaged. She is one of them now. She will never understand my need to create a fake boyfriend, when she has a love beside her. Unfortunately, I am going to have to lie to her too.

Mr. CEO clears his throat. Ipshitta breaks away and turns her attention to him, first a little annoyed for ruining the a moment between two best friends, but then she thinks what I think she is thinking but really hope she is not.

"Gauri is this…" She asks me cheekily, not wasting a minute to continue speaking. "Hello, I am Ipshitta, her best friend. So how did you ask her out?" Okay she is not only thinking but also talking now. I am not the only one who lays out traps for myself.

"Ipshitta!" I say in a low voice, tugging on her shoulder to pay attention to me. "He is our CEO." I whisper in her ear. She turns to me dumbstruck.

"So he is not…"

"No!"

"Oh." She laughs nervously. "Good afternoon Sir, please don't fire me!" She pleads.

Laughing Mr. CEO starts, "don't worry, I know what it is like. You ladies carry on; I have a phone call to make."

We both watch him leave with fake smiles plastered on our faces, just in case he turns around, but he doesn't. "Gauri, you could have told me." Ipshitta his me on the shoulder.

"Ouch! I would have if you had stopped talking."

"Okay forget it, tell me about this guy of yours."

Oh gosh I forgot about him. "Oh Ipshitta, I am really tired, not right now please."

"Okay, okay tell me later. I will go back to work then."

"Thanks."

I glance at the table watch and see it is quarter past four. "Actually wait Ipshitta, I heading home too; I will take the elevator with you."

"You can't leave early!" Maya commands.

"Excuse me?"

"You can't leave early, you still have forty five more minutes."

"Maya, do you want me to go and tell our CEO that you hand down your work to the girl, who he asked out? I don't think so. So I will leave when I want. And if Mr. Sharma comes back and asks where I am you will tell him, I had some important office work I had to go take care of. Okay." With that I pick up my purse, hold my head up high and leave.

Only three floors I have to travel down with her and Ipshitta can't stop showering me with questions about my dreamy boyfriend. I avoid, lie, and pretend to have a coughing fit for as long as I can. Even though, after she leaves I am no less tense. I have to produce a full grown man and present him as my long lost love of my life. If I don't, Maya will never let go and make fun of me any chance she gets; Nitesh will not stop gloating; Ipshitta and Anupam will never understand why I lied to them; and worst of all, any chances that I could ever have with Mr. CEO will go down the drain, as he will think me a complete psychopath. I must find a boyfriend and get him to break up with me, that is the only way to save myself from becoming a victim of the web lies I have created.

A few minutes later I find myself sitting at the same table, of the same restaurant as this morning. However, I am a lot calmer and composed; from the outside, inside I am yelling, screaming and panicking. Where can I find a man who looks like how I described him to Maya and Palak? Plus he must not only be willing to act as my boyfriend but also be willing to get dumped in public. Where can I find such a man?

Then like miracle, I see him. See him, walking right towards me. His hair, like silk. His eyes so deep and intense. His body, so muscular, would put any bollywood hero to shame. And his face, that of a Greek god. Like a dream.
