Part Nine Sweetartz

"Ipshita! Where are you!"

Shiv screamed as thought the world were coming to an end.

"What in god's name is wrong with you Shiv...why are you screaming so loudly! My goodness, my ears have popped."

Shiv ran towards Ipshita, with a little bounce in his step.

"Guess what?"

Ipshita narrowed her eyes in disgust, she knew what Shiv was about to tell her. She pretended, however, not to know.

"What Shiv?"

"I'm getting married!"

"Haha. Please Shiv, you are always telling me that you never want to marry! And now, all of a sudden?"

"Let's just say I had a well needed epiphany."

"Ahan. Right."

"You do not seem happy? Ipshita, your like a sister to me, I cannot go into my marriage knowing you are unhappy about it"

"Well, I am happy." Obviously she was not, Ipshita thought to herself.

Damn.

She had loved Shiv since she was a little child, but damn it all ,he saw her as a SISTER! A SISTER DAMN IT!

She will change that. Slowly. But she will.
But first, this Gauri ka bhoot, will have to be taken away from Shiv.

"Aunti told me about the girl. Shiv, are you sure you know what you are doing, she is.....ummm....gongi? Is she not?"

Shiv's tone turned deadly. He went from a happy go lucky Shiv, to a very determent, and protective Shiv.

His eyes narrowed, "Ipshita, let me tell you one thing, and get this through your head. When she comes into this home, if you ever taunt her, or even make her realize this, there will be hell to pay. I have seen it with my own eyes, there is more to her than meets the eye."

"Shiv, please. I did not mean to offend you, yet you have only met her once Shiv, how can you make such a decision,and woh bhi, ek gonigi se shadi?"

Shiv took a threatening step towards Ipshita.

"This is my life Ipshita, and I know that a minute ago I wanted you to be happy, but now, I am seeing that your disapproval lies in her inability to speak. And that i will not tolerate. Get that?"

"Shiv, you are getting me all wrong---"

"I do not want to hear it. Either come to my wedding, or don't. I do not care."

Shiv angrily walked out.

"Well the nerve!" Ipshita could not control her fury. Shiv just walked out on her....whom he has known for the majority of his life, for that damn mute girl he just met.

Gauri, you have it coming to you. Ipshita thought.

Ipshita picked up her phone.

Gauri sat in her room, looking out at the stars. Her life was changing.
She was to be married.
Married.
My god.
Her.
Mute, ordinary, Gauri.
Married.
To rich, handsome, Shiv.
My god.
Her mind would not.....the phone rang.
Her baba was not home, and Kaya and Buah went to the neighbors.
There was no use in picking up the phone she thought sadly.
"Gauri, if you are there, will you please pick up the phone"
That was Shiv's voice.
What, was this a cruel joke? Gauri thought.
"Just pick up the phone, and press a random number key, Gauri, please."

She did.

She picked up the phone, and pressed the number one key.

"Gauri, thank you for picking up. I just wanted to know if you are happy with what happened today. If yes press a key once, if not press twice."

Gauri did not have to think twice, she pressed the number one key again. Once.

"Thank you jaan, that's all I needed to know. Goodnight"

He hung up.

Gauri stood there. Looking down at the phone. She just talked on the phone. Well, not exactly, but kind of.
Oh my god.

Never in all her 21 years did she talk on the phone, but Shiv made it possible.

Gauri closed her eyes, a small tear slipped down her cheek.

Shiv was making so many things possible in her life.

Gauri turned back towards the star's, however, a rock sailed in through her bedroom window.
