So..I just realized today, that, though manik isn't really a feminist or anything, but, it has been dhruv who has emphasized the gender aspect of manik and nandini in the beginning.

'ladki ka punch kaisa laga?'
'main toh kehta hoon yeh kya duniya ki sab ladkiyan trouble hain'

Yesterday when manik said 'don't underestimate the power of a woman' i really liked it and i also liked that he stopped harshad from insulting ams not because woh nandini ki grandmother hai but that as an individual, she is elder to them, and to insult her just because shes elderly and a woman, is low. even for harshad.

it says a lot, the way harshad and dhruv treat the women in their lives; differs from the way in which manik (despite the fact that in well, OTHER kinds of shows, treatment like he has received from nyonika would make him this misogynistic character who hates all women); Manik respects people, individuals irrespective of their gender, sexuality, age.

His problems with nandini were not because it was an ego clash between a boy and a girl; it wasn't a gender thing really; it was about individuals conflicting.

it just makes me respect the way these characters have been written, so nuanced, so intricately!
Sorry for the random rambling!

So much WORD on this...very astute point, Geet👏👏 Manik was never the typical misogynist character and BOY are we thankful for that considering every second male lead on TV right now is exactly that...misogynistic for all kinda of half-assed reasons just cookie-cutters of each other.

He was prejudiced for different reasons...he was a bully but none of it was gender specific...and you could tell from his equations with Alya/Mukti anyways that he respected them and didn't look down on them for being the supposed "inferior" gender.

And yesterday toh dil jeet liya Manik ne aur bhi for the way he stood up for Ams for multiple reasons...for both her age as well as her gender...what other show will we get to see hailing a woman's intelligence like that? Despite there being an abundance of female writers on TV, most of the writing ends up being skewed towards the perspective of the male lead...not saying they haven't had their hiccups with Nandini too but compared to many other shows on TV, they've still gone a LONG way in showing a solid female character with intelligence, layers and nuance...atleast some sort of nod to the intelligence of a woman.

@AY - Boy is stressed out , working conditions haven't been easy. Kids just make me proud .

Also Word on Manik being different, I like how his angsty past was never used by him to sell his Ass behaviour nor was it exploited to sell gender bias. Even with the confine of a grey character, they fairly established that his Monster Manik is a facade , a mask, he is not that person. He always respected Nandini as an equal, his repeated praise of her as a smart , astute individual . Agree with how usually tv serial neglect FLs , KY2 really tries to present Nandu's side of stories, they do falter at execution but the effort is always there. Sigh, sometimes this show has those understated moments of brilliance which just never gets talked about.

@VK- I hate Vikku .

exactly...he never bullied her just bcos his male ego was hurt...it was clash of thoughts... he was in shock as he had never experienced this kind of strong reply when he bullied anyone... and in the drunken episode he confessed Nandini that they used to bully others because they fear to loose and that if they not bully others then others will rule over them...

and the way he is still somewhat guilty for alya shows that he respect her and even for navya also he has shown the concern in his own way...

so it was never a male-female clash and really kudos to writers for not making it that way... 👏 👏
