Anna, thanks very much.... the different cannotations and meanings given to same term can often cause misunderstandings and therefore lead to fights...

White wash ... literally means.. wash in white, at least in paint language. Amongst the lower strata of society, who may not be able to afford to paint their houses every year, they white wash their house.... and paint it in longer intervals.....

And Annu, guess you can comprehend from this that not just people in North America, but people from India, Australia, South Africa... and other parts of the world are reading this post... not everyone would know what you mean by your common slang expression... which does not have the same meaning in normal english parlance. It would help to choose words with care.
