Part 17

Adi gave Ashutosh the bank statements. While Ashutosh was conducting his search, Adi went to Naryani Devi's house to give Janki Devi and update on what they have learned. The guards were ordered to let Adi in without taking anyone's permission. When Adi entered the house, he saw Mathilli organizing some files. She was lost in her work that she hadn't heard him walk in. Adi noticed that no one else was around in the room, so he decided to spend some quality time with his girlfriend. He slowly stood behind her and put his arms around her waist.

A: Hello my dear girlfriend.

Mathilli flinched a little when Adi put his arms around her since she was unaware of the fact that someone else was in the room.

M: Adi! Let go of me.

A: No

M: Come on Adi, I've got work to do. If I don't finish this now, then Janki ma'm will get mad.

A: Don't worry, she won't. After all, you are going to be her grandson's wife—her future daughter-in-law.

Both Adi and Mathilli failed to notice that Janki Devi had walked into the room and witnessed the cute scene between the two.

Janki: But I will get mad at my grandson for bothering my future daughter-in-law.

As soon as he heard Janki Devi's voice, Adi let go of Mathilli. Both of their faces were red from embarrassment while Janki Devi just smiled at the cute couple. Janki Devi walked up to Adi and grabbed one of his ears.

Adi: Owww, Nani! Sorry.

Janki: Sorry won't work…you are going to get a punishment for this.

Adi: What?

Janki: You have to stay for dinner tonight.

Adi: Fine…now please let go of my ear.

After they settled down, Adi gave Janki Devi and update on his findings. What surprised Janki Devi the most is that Ashutosh was helping them.

Janki: Does Ashu know who I am?

Just then a young man walked into that room.

Man: I can recognize my mother from anywhere.

Every looked towards the entrance to find Ashutosh standing near the door.

Ashutosh: You have no idea how hard it was for me to stay away from you.

Ashutosh approached his mother and touched her feet. As soon as he come close to her, Janki Devi embraced her son and cried her heart out on his shoulder. Ashutosh did not bother to stop her: he just let her release the pain that had been trapped inside of her for all these years.

After the emotional mother-son reunion was over. Janki Devi, Ashutosh, Adi, and Mathilli gathered to discuss their further plans.

Ashutosh: I have traced a big transaction in that lawyer's account around the time Chotu was kidnapped. This lawyer used to work for the government and did not have enough money to support his family. It was because of this money that he opened his own law firm.

Janki: Have you found out who gave him that money.

Ashutosh: Records show that the account from which the money was transferred was under Gayathri's name. As soon as that money was transferred, that account was closed. Obviously, whoever is behind all this did used Gayathri's name so he can't be traced. But that person made one mistake.

Janki: What?

Ashutosh: He didn't use Gayathri's address when applying for that account. I got the address that he used—it's in Pune. We have to go to this place and try to get more information. Right now this address is our only hope.

Janki: I can't leave the family alone with Trishna right now, and what am I suppose to tell her.

Ashutosh: I can't get my men involved in this because the word might get out. We have to send someone who can't be suspected.

Adi: I'll go.

Mathilli: Me too.

Janki: What?

Adi: Come on Nani. Whoever is behind this does not know me because I was a baby at that time. No one will suspect that you two sent me.

Ashutosh: He's right…but you need a cover.

Mathilli: I have an idea. Abhay sir told me a few weeks ago that there will be a training camp in Pune for football, and they need people to coach these young boys and girls. You and I can go under the pretense that we are there for the camp.

Janki: That's a good idea. That way neither Trishna nor Rajeshwari will suspect that something is going on.

Part 18

The day before leaving, Mathilli came to meet Janki Devi at Agarwal house. Janki Devi wished her all the best and asked her to take care of Adi. What they were unaware of was that Pranay had overheard their conversation. He stopped Mathilli in the main room when she was on her way to leave.

P: Mathilli!

M: What is it Pranay?

P: You are going to Pune with Adi?

M: Why do you care?

P: I've told you before that he is trouble…stay away from him.

M: I won't, Pranay. I love Adi, and I always feel safe around him.

Pranay was shocked by the statement Mathilli had just made.

P: So whatever Mr. Ashutosh said about Adi caring for the woman he loves at the wedding was true?

M: Yes Pranay. It's been a while since Adi expressed his love to me, and he never pressurized me to give him an answer or do anything that I was uncomfortable about. He's always been good to me.

P: He's faking it!

M: That's enough Pranay. Get this straight in your head, I don't want to hear a word against Adi.

Mathilli did not give Pranay an opportunity to refute back: she stormed out of Agarwal house, leaving a warning for Pranay.

Afterwards, Mathilli and Adi went to meet Abhay where they got all the details for the camp. Fortunately, the cottage they would be staying at was near the address that they had to do their search.

The next day Adi arrived at Mathilli's house early in the morning. Within a few minutes Mathilli stepped out of the house. As soon as she sat in the jeep, Adi gave her a gentle kiss on the cheek. Surprisingly, Mathilli returned this gesture in the same manner.

Adi: Remind me to send Chotu a big bouquet of flowers when we find him

Mathilli: Why?

A: Because of him, I will get to spend a lot of time with you alone. I would have never gotten this opportunity to be with if we didn't have to go and search for him.

Mathilli: Well, we have to find him first before you can send him your flowers. Now get moving.

A: Alright, alright! You're ordering me around as if you are already my wife! I wonder what's going to happen when we get married!

M: Adi! Quit fooling around, let's go!

Adi had irritated Mathilli enough, which is why he put an end to his joking and started driving.

Throughout the journey, Adi and Mathilli talked nonstop. Although they were out to accomplish something very important, they managed to use the time to get to know each other. About after being in the car for nearly two hours, Mathilli started to complain like a child.

M: Adi! Can we take a break…I'm hungry.

A: How much do you eat? Didn't you eat before leaving home? Mathilli, you better start controlling your appetite. Otherwise, you'll be to heavy to run across the whole football field.

M: God, Adi! You are so mean. Fine, don't stop. I have lost my appetite.

This time, Adi managed to make Mathilli mad. She sat there with a frown on her face and declared the silent treatment for Adi. Her silence really bothered Adi, and he started to feel guilty for making her mad.

On their way, Adi spotted a nearby restaurant and stopped the jeep there. However, Mathilli continued to stay mad with her frown. Adi then stepped out of the jeep and went inside the restaurant. He was gone for nearly twenty minutes, and Mathilli was starting to lose her patience. Just then a waiter approached her. He had a huge bouquet of flowers and a card for Mathilli. The card said

Dearest Mathilli,

I am so sorry! I promise I'll never do that again if it bothers you. Please forgive and come inside. I am waiting for you at the restaurant for lunch.

With lots of love,

Adi

Mathilli was touched by Adi's card. She immediately forgave him and followed the waiter inside the restaurant. Adi had asked for a table away from the rest of the crowd. As soon as he saw Mathilli step inside, he held his two ears and gave her an apologetic look. He looked like a little child asking for forgiveness after committing some mischief. Mathilli ran to him and gave him a tight hug.

M: You took me too seriously! I was just playing with you!

A: Mathilli, I can handle anything. But I can't handle you being distant or mad at me; especially, if it's because of something I did.

M: How did I ever get so lucky?

A: I could ask the same…anyways, now I am famished. Let's eat.

The couple ate lunch together. All the other couples in the restaurant observed Adi and Mathilli who were feeding each other and lost in their own world.

Part 19

For the rest of the trip the two did not have a single fight. In fact, Adi managed to teach Mathilli how to drive, and she picked up on it quickly. She willingly volunteered to drive throughout the rest of the trip, so Adi can get some rest.

In the evening, Adi and Mathilli reached the campsite. They were taken to a cottage where some of the other staff members were living.

The camp was a total of four weeks. From Monday till Friday, Adi and Mathilli were busy training young boys and girls how to play football. This was the first time that Adi had made so much contact with young children, and he handled it pretty well. Mathilli mixed in with children easily because she spent a lot of time with Tiny and Bheem at Agarwal house, so it came to her naturally. Their first week was successful. They had spent most of the time building up the children's stamina. That Friday night, the two decided to go to the beach. The sat by the shore with their feet, which were sore from running after so many children, covered with the soft sand. Mathilli's head was on Adi's shoulder and the two were staring at the waves that were ascending towards them. Eventually, Adi broke the silence.

A: Mathilli, what would you like to have? A boy or girl?

M: Huh? What are you talking about, Adi?

A: I'm talking about children. After marriage, would you like to have a boy or a girl?

M: Adi, I have to get married first. This is a little too soon. And why are you asking me this?

A: This camp was the first time I interacted with children, and I enjoy playing with them. It just made think about what it feels like being a father. After this experience, I look forward to starting a family.

M: Well, Adi first things first. You need to find yourself a wife. Do you have anyone in mind?

Mathilli was in the mood of teasing Adi. She was pretending to be unaware of Adi's intentions of marrying her, and Adi picked up on this. He responded in the same manner.

A: Yeah, in fact, I do. There is this really gorgeous girl I know. Whenever she smiles, she lights up the whole place. Every time I'm with her, I forget my surroundings, and I wish time could freeze.

Mathilli was growing red with jealousy. She thought that Adi was talking about someone. She put her hands around Adi's neck.

M: Who is she, Adi? Give me her address, I won't leave her.

A: Her name is (long pause) Mathilli.

Adi burst in a huge laughter when he saw Mathilli's reaction upon hearing her name. He was laughing at the fact that Mathilli thought he was talking about someone else. Mathilli than started hitting him lightly, but he persisted to laugh. Eventually, he calmed her down by wrapping his arms around her.

A: Mathilli, no one can take your place in my life. And there is only one person that I want to marry, and that's you…I've decided that after we find Chotu, I will come to your house and ask your grandfather for your hand in marriage.

M: Speaking of which, tomorrow is Saturday. All the parents will be coming to visit their kids. We can go to that address that Ashutosh uncle gave us tomorrow.

A: Yeah. I'll give him a call when we return and let him know that we are going tomorrow…I just hope that we can get more information that will lead us to Chotu. I know that this is eating up nani from the inside.

M: Don't worry Adi, together we will find Chotu from any corner of the world.
