Actor Aamir Ali is eagerly awaiting the D-day when his first major release, ANJAAN, makes it to the theatres. The film marks Ali's transition from being a familiar household name on television (in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki) to the big screen. True that he was also seem as one of the four protagonists in Hansal Mehta's Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai, but Aamir considers this film to his official film debut. Interestingly the role in KAHANI came to Ali only later after Hansal Mehta approached him for the film. "It was decided that I would be launched in the film. However there was a slight intermittent delay during which I was offered the role in KAHANI GHAR GHAR KI and I decided to take it up," Aamir recalls.

Unlike other actors, Ali was not apprehensive that the 'television actor' tag would prove to be barrier in films. "I didn't have any of those apprehensions then and even now. A number of television artistes have moved on to films from television but most of them are character artistes. My case is an exception and I hope to break the myth that television artists can never make it big," Aamir says.

In ANJAAN, Ali plays the title role of a mysterious stranger who creates havoc in the lives of a husband and wife, within a few days after he enters their house. According to Ali, his role in the suspense thriller has several shades to it "I am glad that I have got to play such an interesting role in the beginning of my career," he says. Aamir recalls that it was a great experience shooting for the film. The best part of it though was when he shuttled between the sets of ANJAAN and KAHANI GHAR GHAR KI on some days for two contrasting media. "I enjoyed every bit of it. In fact it brought the best of my acting skills for both," he smiles.

Right now though he has clearly made up his mind to focus on films. "That's because there's too much of exposure on television and the impact of the two media is different," he explains. Moreover Hansal Mehta has already signed him for the title role of his next film, RAGHU, which will start shooting in January next year. "I and Hansal share an excellent tuning with each other. Besides, he liked my performance in ANJAAN, which prompted him to sign me again for the title role of RAGHU. The rest will be decided by the release of ANJAAN. I am hoping for the best," he quips.

On the occasion of Mother's Day, hitList brings to you pictures of your favourite TV actors with the ones that matter to them the most — their mothers!

And they also tell you things about their mommy dearest, like what they like about their mommies and what are their earliest memories of her. And this comes as no surprise — they're all mamma's boys!
Ronit Roy
I love…
everything about her.
I dislike… that she worries too much.
My earliest memory of her… I don't want to put my memories of her in incidents. She has devoted her entire life to my brother and me.

Rohit Roy
I love…
her resilience.
I dislike… her sensitivity.
My earliest memory of her… I remember I must have been around 6 years old and we were on holiday in Kashmir.
Parmeet Sethi with Sushil Sethi
I love…
her unquestioning love for me.
I dislike… When she criticises me. She is brutally frank but doesn't mean to hurt.
My earliest memory of her… Mom and her radio and Vividh Bharati and her singing old songs.
Chetan Hansraj with Dr Shakuntala Hansraj

I love...
that she has always been there for me. She pushed me to achieve my goals, encouraged me and never lost faith in me. Her love for me is the greatest thing about her.
I dislike … the way she jumps from one topic to another while talking!
My earliest memory of her… Once we were travelling in the train, and I was getting squeezed between all the other passengers in the compartment. I was so small and my mum is quite tall, and I remember how she was pushing all the other people to move away from me. I remember thinking, "Whoa! My mum's really strong!"
Akashdeep Saigal with Godavari Saigal

I love…
the fact that she is my mom!
I dislike… She cares too much. Everybody has to move in life.
My earliest memory of her… I remember her tying my hair when I was young, around four. It was very curly. She used to call me Joyce.
Hussain with Sakina Kuwajerwala

I love…
everything about her. She is the best creation of God.
I dislike… how's she's pampered me!
My earliest memory of her… I remember the first time I got a pay check from working in a store. I had Rs 990 and I wanted to gift my mother a saree but I didn't know if that amount would be enough.

That feeling was so special. Till date, whatever I earn I give it to my mom.
Shabbir Ahluwalia with Mabel Ahluwalia

I love…
everything about her.
I dislike… nothing!
My earliest memory of her… She was an airhostess and would bring chocolates for me everytime she returned from a flight. So I would eagerly wait for her to come home.
Ali Asgar with his Farkhondeh Agha
I love…
her simplicity.
I dislike… her simplicity!
My earliest memory of her… I was a brat when I was small. She was very fond of growing rose plants in the balcony. When I would fly kites, the strings would get entangled in the plants and damage them.

One day she got so fed up of me that she gave me the 'chatka' treatment. I am what I am because of her and I cannot do without my mother. I am a total momma's boy.
Sharokh Bharucha with Ketayun Bharucha
I love…
how she is extremely caring. She has spoiled me.
I dislike… that she is very stubborn.
My earliest memory of her… It was my younger brother's Navjyot ceremony. We had gone out shopping and I saw this suit at Sheetal and really liked it. But it was very expensive and my mom knew I would outgrow it so she didn't buy it for me. But she knew I would be upset.

So, the next day, despite my Dad's protest, she took me again and bought it. I still have it with me and one day maybe my kids will wear it.
Vikas Bhalla with Neelam Bhalla

I love…
The fact that she loves me so much.
I dislike… that she feeds me too much. Ghee on rotis and all!
My earliest memory of her… She used to come to my school six times a day and ask my teacher whether I was naughty.
Gaurav Kapur with Roma Kapur

I love…
that she is my "bestest" friend. She has a lot of insight and makes the best pepper mutton in the world.
I dislike… that she is over-indulgent.
My earliest memory of her… I was walking on Juhu beach with both arms dangling. My mom and dad each held one finger and I was singing near the ocean. That was 26 years ago.
Pawan Shankarr with Kiran Bala Pandey

I love…
She never wants anything.
I dislike… She is not very open to new ideas.
My earliest memory of her… She wanted me to eat a banana before going to school one day and I said no. She made me remove all my clothes and I did it in the dining room and the whole mohalla was watching me.
Vinay Pathak with Kishori Pathak

I love…
no matter what I do, she finds a way to like it.
I dislike… how she finds a way to criticise it too!
My earliest memory of her… I remember I was about three years old and she was pregnant with my younger sister. She made me talk to her belly.
Vinay Jain with Indira Jain

I love…
Her ever-forgiving attitude.
I dislike… She can see right through me. I cannot put up a faade in front of her.
My earliest memory of her… Beating the shit out of me for dropping milk on the brand new carpet at the age of 5!
Sandeep Rajora with Vimlesh Rajora

I love…
that she is understanding, caring and the perfect mom.
I dislike… how she worries too much.
My earliest memory of her… I was in school in Std III and I was on stage. I remember her watching and clapping for me.
Sumeet Raghavan with Prema Raghavan

I love…
that she is very understanding.
I dislike… how she forces me into doing a lot of things. She is very persuasive!
My earliest memory of her… I remember that she was the one who enrolled my name into a theatre company. She accompanied me wherever I went. She has been the motivating factor in my life.

Sachin out of CID Special Bureau
By: Sandipan Dalal
December 1, 2005

Sachin Sharma
Many actors have jumped into Sony's CID Special Bureau bandwagon, butnow they are voicing their dissatisfaction and a few are even contemplating about quitting the show.

The first to call it off is Sachin Sharma, aka sub-inspector Samar, who joined the crime series after walking out of two Balaji shows — Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and K Street Pali Hill. Says the actor, "My character wasn't going anywhere. There was no scope for exploring my histrionic skills, so I left the show."

However, a member from Fireworks Production says, "B P Singh doesn't take any interference from the cast. Sachin had his set of differences, so they parted amicably."

No scope for characters

The actor pointed out the pattern of the show as his primary concern for quitting. He says, "Being a thriller, the emphasis is more on the story and not on the characters. I felt the characters should be established in the course of the story. Unfortunately, the production house couldn't do much about it."

When quizzed about the reaction of the production house the actor says, "The reaction was obvious — 'stay back' — but I couldn't convince myself. As an actor, I always want to give my audience something from my side. Even if my character is taken out of the script, there's not going to be much of a difference. I couldn't see myself playing such a character."

Growing differences

The production house confirms the development. Says supervising producer, Yash Patnaik, "It was a mutual decision. There were issues that couldn't be sorted out, and we decided to amicably part ways. There are no hard feelings. We are not looking for any replacement and have decided to drop the character."

Balaji bane?

Adds a source, "There were growing differences, and Sachin had walked off the sets on one occasion. He is a humble guy who expressed his concerns, but unfortunately, nothing was done about it, forcing him to opt out."

However, Patnaik denied this. "Nothing like that happened. I don't know who is spreading all these rumours." Added Sharma, "I wasn't well that day, and had informed my producers about it. It has nothing to do with my opting out." Another source from the production house added, "Different production houses have their own ways of working and dealing with situations. Most actors who have joined us from the Balaji camp are having problems."

Knack for family drama

Does Sharma regret leaving the Balaji shows? "Whatever happens, happens for good," he says. "Leaving those shows was the right decision then, and quitting CID Special Bureau now is also right."

The actor promises to be back in action soon, "There are few offers but nothing has materialised as of now. I prefer doing a family drama any day, as it involves a lot of emotions and you can prove your worth as an actor at the same time."

Sachin Sharma was fired: producer

Sachin Sharma
While Sachin Sharma claims he opted out of CID Special Bureau (Sony), senior producer of the show, Yash Patnaik, has a different story to tell. Patnaik tells hitList that the production house, Fireworks, booted Sharma out because of his haughty attitude.

Left in a huff

According to Patnaik, "A few days ago, we were shooting at Film City, when Sachin demanded a make-up van. Tapasya, the executive producer of the show, categorically told him there was no provision for a make-up van on that particular day. Hearing this, Sachin stormed out of the sets."

Only show he had

Patnaik says he met Sachin after this. "I got a call at 11 am that Sachin walked out of the shoot. Later, I met up with him and asked him to leave the serial. He was taken aback that we had taken this harsh step. He told me he didn't have anything other than CID Special Bureau on hand, and wanted to stay back; we did not relent. TV actors must know how important it is to maintain the continuity of a show."

Zero-tolerance approach

Why was the make-up van not provided? "When we shoot at Film City, we generally don't provide this facility. What was Sachin cribbing about? There were other actors present at the shoot on that day, and they, too, were not given a make-up van. Why did Sachin want one?

According to Patnaik, Fireworks will not think in terms of a replacement for Sachin. "We have sufficient characters in the show; we don't need Sachin. Our company cannot give in to unprofessional and unethical behaviour."

Sachin's shock

We contacted Sachin, who eventually said, "Yes, I asked for a vanity van. How can I change in front of 50 people on an outdoor shoot? Later, I did meet Yash Patnaik; I hadn't imagined that a basic demand would snowball into such an issue. But it's okay, I have no regrets. Anyway, I was telling Patnaik that my character was not happening in the show. I was promised something meatier."

Everyone always goes on about what a tyrant Ekta Kapoor is and how she turns up on sets sending actors into panic mode. Well, the truth is very different. Apparently Ekta, like another big boss handles the larger picture and doesn't interfere on the sets of shows. In fact, an actress on the condition of anonymity said that Ekta doesn't even know the names of some of the smaller stars on her show. The only ones who have access to her are the big stars and some of the popular character artistes. The rest who claim to know her or argue with her, do it just for publicity..

Kahaani's Ajay is back!

Remember Ajay Agarwal of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii? Well, we wouldn't blame you if you didn't -- the actor has been missing in action for the last six months! But there's good news for all his fans. Prabhat 'Ajay' Bhattacharjee is back on television with two new shows in his kitty.

"I have been away for personal reasons, but I have sorted things out and am back!
I had been working on a film in Kolkata that was based on the life of Bibhuti Bhushan Bandhapadhyay (writer of Pather Panchali) and it was a great experience! I wanted to take a break because I was tired of getting up at nine in the morning everyday and going for shoots and returning home at four the next day. There was a time when I felt like avoiding shoots. But know I am ready to work as long as required and am feeling refreshed," says the actor who will soon be seen on the telly.

The actor has had a long and fruitful journey in tellydom -- he has done around 1700 episodes on TV, including 400 episodes of Kahaani...He was also part of shows like Koi Apna Sa, Kumkum and Hum Do Hai Naa.

Talk about his tenure as Ajay in Kahaani... and the actor gets nostalgic -- "People still remember me as Ajay and it feels great. It's been two and a half years and I thought it was a long time back!" says the actor.

Prabhat also wants to do films, but he feels that a good film is hard to come by. "I want to do something like Deewar...but what do you do till you get that dream role," sighs the actor.

She destroyed relationships with a vengeance. Her mantra was to be evil. This was on screen. Off screen, Shweta Kawaatra knows how to keep a relationship alive and kicking.

She also has a perfect formula for a good relationship. "Look within before you blame somebody. Be reasonable, as very often you need to change before expecting the other person to do so."

Look within advises Shweta Kawaatra

A relationship without love would be void. You love your parents, your husband, your siblings and later in life you will start loving your house help for cooking, cleaning and doing all the domestic chores for you. Because she helps you make your life easier.

It is very important in a marriage. Lust is intimacy. But sometimes it is crude to think that love without lust or lust without love is not possible. We forget to understand that love and lust don't go together.

It's always present in a relationship. In fact, it's natural in every relationship and it is like any other emotion. It is the intensity that varies. You need to control it. If your relationship is mature enough, then there will be no place for jealousy. You might just laugh it out. I can be jealous seeing my mother praising another child in front of me, it is that natural.

This has no place in a relationship. But even if it does I would prefer walking out of the room quietly rather than adding fuel to the fire. I would wait for my husband to calm down.

Being passionate in a relationship is like loving the person. There is no difference. I don't need to show Manav that I am passionate about him. Even taking the person for a dinner or a drink shows that you love and you are passionate about that person. Passion means to see the person you love, happy all the time and this will make you feel happy as well.

Telly Award... revisited!

The Fifth Indian Telly Awards was an event that brought back a lot of memories for all of us working behind the scenes. But it was a time when the biggest stars on television came together to make the show a success. While most artistes who performed at the awards missed out on the actual airing on Sony on 3 December, we decided to ask them how they felt about being part of the show, in retrospect.

Chaitanya Chaudhry
I saw the award's telecast on 3 December, and I feel it was over all a great event but when it comes to my performance, I am extremely critical about it. I actually expect a lot from my end and feel that it could have been better. Of course, I got very less time to rehearse because of my schedule and may be that was the reason why I could not give my very best. Apart from all this, I have already received numerous compliments on my act.

Karishma Tanna
Unfortunately, I could not catch up with the awards. I can't say much about my group performance as I haven't seen it but my part was great fun and I've got rocking compliments.

Mansi Verma
The overall package of the awards was damn creative and awesome. Everything was so well organised and planned and all this showed on the day of telecast when I could enjoy the whole show. Oh! I never knew I would hear things like, 'you sizzle and your body is like a liquid and can take any form', it actually was a surprise. And now after doing a number of performances I have been offered quite a few stage shows in January and then later in March I'm going to the U.S. for the same.

Rajeev Khandelwal
No, I could not see the awards because I was in Rishikesh holidaying and there was no electricity there. Anyways, I am really happy with the kind of compliments I get in spite of my average performance. It's that people love me anyways. What about the response you'll have got via net on my performance?

Shama Sikandar
I did watch the telecast, but you know I am very critical about my performances. Actually, I found every body else's performance better than mine. I think I could do much better than what I really did. Though I got a number of compliments from all but somehow I am unhappy. Things at the time of rehearsals were great and comfortable. Anyways, I have been getting quite a few offers for stage performances and I want to do something very different from Ye Meri Life Hai.
