Part Two

The next day Gungun and Nidhi were having lunch when Nidhi suddenly said, “Arey Gungun guess who is getting married?” “Saanvi,” Gungun replied without even looking up, “Hey how did you know,” Nidhi questioned, “Because she gave me her wedding invitation yesterday, before you,” Gungun smirked at her friend. “Not fair Gungun you always become closer to students than me,” Nidhi said in mock anger, Gungun just winked at her and continued eating, “Waise,” Nidhi continued after a few minutes, “isn’t Saanvi the same age as us and she is getting married, I mean can you even imagine getting married at 23, we have so much more to do and …” she stopped suddenly looking at Gungun’s face, “I am sorry Gungun I didn’t mean it like that,” Nidhi said awkwardly, Gungun smiled a bit seeing her state and reassured her, “Relax Nidhi, I not a glass doll that will break as soon as hearing the word wedding or marriage, it was a long time ago. Chill.” Nidhi was not only Gungun’s business partner but also her best friend and the only person with whom Gungun had shared her past.

Nidhi could see through Gungun’s fake smile and decided to change the topic, “By the way you have not forgotten that tonight we have to work on that presentation right for Amitech Inc.” “No no no,” Gungun groaned shaking her head dramatically, “why do we have to make a presentation, we are not some 9-5 workers at a boring company called Amitech Inc. In fact, you haven’t even explained to me in detail about this company.” Nidhi knew Gungun was a little sceptical of this but she wanted to make this work, “See Amitech Inc. is a tech company with many engineers and scientists working for them in a high stress environment and they want their employees to focus on their health too and so they are starting these yoga sessions as a part of their Healthy Life programme. I know we haven’t done anything like this before but I think this will a good step in growing our business.” Nidhi was usually right in such business decisions, she usually handled all the financial and marketing aspects of their business while Gungun worked with the students more and took care that all their needs are met.

The next morning Gungun and Nidhi gave their presentation and the VP of Amitech was impressed, he had hired them on a temporary basis for three months and would then evaluate their performance and decide whether to continue or not. A senior executive had then directed all the employees to gather in the meeting room and introduced them to Gungun and Nidhi. “Hello everyone, I am Ridhima Bhatnagar, and I will be your primary instructor,” Gungun said taking the podium, as she started talking she could feel someone’s eyes on her, staring her intently though she couldn’t find that person, “Yoga is not just a medium for a healthy body, but also helps in de-stressing your mind, it really…” all the words flew out of her mind as Gungun caught the eyes of the person who had been staring at her, he was standing all the way in the back, obscured by the dozens of people standing in front of him, but once she looked in his eyes she couldn’t look anywhere else, it was the same person who had broken her heart two years ago, it was Anubhav.

Never in a million years had Gungun imagined meeting Anubhav like this in a tech company in Mumbai. Seeing him here so unexpectedly was messing up Gungun’s head and she couldn’t concentrate on anything, taking a deep breath to clear her head, Gungun tried to listen as Nidhi was saying, “So in this way you can sign up for classes, and batches will begin next week. Thank You.” Gungun looked towards Nidhi silently thanking her for taking over, while Nidhi was looking very concerned, Gungun was about to talk to her when Anubhav approached them “Gungun I…” “Gungun huh, do you know each other?” Nidhi interrupted them. Both of them didn’t know how to react, “Gungun can we talk over there,” Anubhav said pointing towards the corner. Talking to him was the last thing Gungun wanted, but she was a professional and she didn’t want to create a scene here, so she silently followed him, and folded her hands across her chest waited for him to speak, “Gungun, I wanted to talk to you,” “Whatever questions you have regarding the programme, I can answer them Dr. Kulshresth,” Gungun said with a fake smile, Anubhav looked uncomfortable as if he didn’t know how to react at her words, “Gungun, I wanted to explain some things and I…a…I and I wanted to apologise to you, please let me,” pleaded Anubhav. Gungun didn’t know how to react to that, never in a million years had she imagined getting an apology from him so willingly, maybe this will be the closure that her bua was talking about, but she wasn’t ready for it now, so instead she said, “Let’s meet Café Moon at 6 tonight.” With that she walked away and kept walking until she was out of that suffocating office and out in the open air.

Nidhi soon caught up with her, “Gungun, what’s wrong, what happened, who was that man, are you alright.” “That,” Gungun said in small voice, “was Dr. Anubhav Kulshreth.” Nidhi looked puzzled, “Who? Anubhav? Oh my God!” Nidhi exclaimed as realised dawned on her, “That Anubhav, your ex? He is hot.” Gungun sharply looked up at that, “not at all,” Nidhi corrected hastily, “He is not all hot is what I am saying, in fact I thought he was arrogant, boring and a moron. He definitely is a moron if he let you Gungun.” Gungun gave a genuine smile, seeing her friend’s loyalty, “Why is he here and what did he want from you anyway.” “I don’t know why he is here, he said that he wanted to talk to me and apologise, so we meeting tonight at a café.” Nidhi looked furious at that, “Well it is too late for any apology now. Why did you agree to meet him anyways? Chod woh sab, I am coming with you?” Gunngun could see that her friend was worried for her, so she calmly said, “No Nidhi, I have to do this on my own. This time I will face him with my head held high, and show him that I not some childish spoilt brat. It’s time that I close this chapter for good and get some closure.” Nidhi nodded in understanding and said, “Fine, but I’ll be nearby, and if he does anything wrong just call me and I’ll punch him in the face.” Gungun laughed loudly at that, she had seen Nidhi’s punch and just imagining Anubhav being on the receiving end of one was enough to lift her mood. “Done deal Nidhi, now let’s go we have some classes to take.”

Gungun reached the café 10 mins early, not wanting to give him any excuse to belittle her again, but as the mins ticked by a fear started to form in her, what if he would show her with Aakriti? She had mentally prepared herself to face Anubhav, but she wasn’t ready to see both of them, but all her fears were for nothing as she saw Anubhav walking in the café alone. He sat down in front of her and they both gave their orders. “You have changed a lot Gungun,” “Well sorry to disappoint you, I am not pining after you anymore.” Gungun replied sarcastically, “I didn’t mean it like that,” Anubhav replied hastily, “I meant that is good to see you take charge of your life, and I could see the passion in your eyes when you talking about the health programme, it’s clear that you enjoy what you do and that’s wonderful.” Gungun could see the sincerity in his eyes, she just nodded for him to continue, “I also want to say that I am sorry, for the way that I and my family behaved two years ago, both of our families were hurt by Dr Maya’s behaviour that day and it wasn’t right to push all the blame on you. If these two years have taught me anything it’s importance of good hearted and kind people and I know you are one of them, and I am extremely sorry for hurting you and causing you pain.”

Gungun could feel tears gather in her eyes and was grateful that the waiter interrupted them at that moment, she swiftly composed herself as the waiter placed their orders, “Thank You for that, even though your apology is very late, but it still feels good to hear.” Gungun said giving her first genuine smile to Anubhav. A few minutes passed in silence with both of them drinking their coffees, when Gungun decided to have some small talk to break the awkwardness, “So, how long are you here Amitech? Is it some collaboration with your institute?” “No I took a job as the head of R&D department here.” Gungun was surprised that Anubhav had left his family, but decided not to comment on that, instead she said, “Oh that’s great congratulations, so did Aakriti also take up a job at corporate in Mumbai.” “No, we actually got divorced.” Gungun almost spilled her coffee at that, “What, why?” she blurted out before she could stop herself, “I am sorry that’s none of my business you don’t have to explain anything.” “No it’s fine, out of everything, I never apologized for marrying your cousin on the same day as…” Anubhav said in a small voice.

Anubhav took a long pause before continuing, “The first two-three months were good, Aakriti was mixing up with everyone, my parents and bade papa, badi ma all loved her, but slowly her behaviour started to change, she didn’t like living with so many people, and complained about her lack of privacy. You know how it is in our house, anyone just goes to any room, there is no specific room for anyone or anything. She started locking our room and staying in there for entire day at times, she started complaining to me about how I spent most of my time with family and there was no time for us alone. I tried reasoning with her and tried to include her in our family activities, but she just wasn’t ready for anything, and things started to go from bad to worse, Aakriti then started to fight with everybody on small-small things, once even went as far as to shout at bade papa that he was holding onto me because I earned a lot more than everybody else. This was the last straw for Golu chachu as he already didn’t like her and after this openly started taunting her, and both of them fought on almost a daily basis. Aakriti started openly saying that we were moving out of the house and move to the U.S. she even applied for a job position in New York on my behalf, which I had to cancel at the last minute. Things at home had become so stressed that I started spending as much time as possible at the institute. I wanted to leave her, but bade papa insisted to give our marriage a chance and so I unwillingly I did, but the last straw came after around six months of our wedding, when Aakriti became annoyed with Chavi and pushed her down the stairs, after that bade papa himself called Aakriti’s dad and asked him to take Aakriti away. I sent her the divorce papers after two weeks, but she didn’t want to divorce and we fought in court. It is almost impossible to get a divorce in India if it is not mutual, and after fighting the battle for almost a year I was sure that I wasn’t going to get one, but still Golu chachu and Yug bhaiya supported me the most and kept me going, and I am glad for that because in the next hearing, as Golu chachu was explaining some of Aakriti’s behaviour, she took out pocket knife and almost attacked him with it, saying that he was the one who had poisoned my mind against her and had destroyed our marriage. It was horrifying, had the police officers not stopped her, I don’t know what would have happened, but the silver lining was that the judge had himself witnessed Aakriti’s behaviour and my lawyer was able plea mental instability as a reason for divorce and after that I got a divorce within a month.”

As Gungun listened to the entire thing lot of emotions were running through her mind, sad, angry and horrified, she had never thought her sister could be this obsessed to the point of insanity. All the while when Anubhav was talking, Gungun never once interrupted him, but she was watching him closely, even talking about this seemed very painful for him, he looked like he had aged ten years and was very much tired. Gungun felt sorry for him, even though he had broken her heart but she didn’t think he deserved to suffer so much, for her no one deserved to go through such an ordeal. “I am sorry,” Gungun said sincerely, “You and your family didn’t deserve to go through this. Nobody does.” Anubhav could see that she meant it, had been anybody else they would have vindictive about it, but not Gungun she always wanted good for everyone and that not changed with time. He gave her a small smile, expressing his gratitude. They both sat there in comfortable silence for a few minutes, as all the awkwardness around them was finally clear.

“You know Anubhav,” Gungun said in a light tone, after some time, “you should sign up for the fitness programme that we are conducting at your office.” “Oh God are you really trying to promote your classes right now, you Gungun are a true businesswoman,” Anubhav said jokingly, Gungun laughed a little at that, “No but seriously I am not cut out for this Yoga and all, I am happy with my fitness as it is.” “Oh I wouldn’t be so sure, if I were you Dr Kulshreth,” Gungun said with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes, “All kidding aside Anubhav Yoga doesn’t just keep your body fit it also helps with removing all the stress from our mind and I am saying this from my personal experience, it has also helped find some peace from the chaos around me. You should try it too.” Anubhav loved how animatedly and passionately Gungun spoke, though he would never admit it he had missed it, “Well if it the recommendation of a true professional like you maybe I will try it.” Anubhav said, smiling so broadly for the first time in a long while.

That's it guys, this was the last part. Thank you for the people who commented on the previous part, hope you guys like this too.

Finally, AnuGun as well as all of us, got the much needed closure!!

I love this matured version of Gungun, who knows to keep her emotions in check. She's got an aim in life and I feel really happy to see her progressing!

On the other hand, the Akriti drama was fun to read. I mean the Kulshits did deserve that... Finally her mask of innocence tore apart!

This was a wonderful story and would love to read more of these, should you write again!!!❤️
