Just thought of bringing this to light:

Recently, Times of India TV published an article talking about how effortlessly artists are playing negative roles. One of their mentions was @fenil_umrigar Di who plays Gauri in Kaala Teeka.

As all of us know, Gauri is not an inherent negative character. In fact, she does not even fit in the category of an antagonist as she has never hurt Kali knowingly or done anything to cause anyone harm. Instead, she is just a normal modern naive girl who does have some attitude, but that obviously is a common phenomenon in today's time and surely does not make one a villain.

In fact, let me just mention few instances that show she is so NOT a negative character:

1. She is the reason that Kali was allowed to educate herself. Without her insistence, Kali would have turned out to be an uneducated, superstitious girl.
2. She has this dominant sibling kinda trait which makes her boss over Kali, but she saves her too.
3. She gave the opportunity to Kali to portray her singing talent, without which the story after the leap would not have progressed.
4. She has been grown up in an environment where she gets what she wants. She has never manipulated others to do what she wants, instead she is a pawn in Taiji's game to teach Vishwaveer a lesson.
5. She always gives ointment to Kali when she is hurt/ injured because she knows Kali will not take care of herself otherwise.
6. She listens to Kali and sometimes does things quite unlike her because that makes Kali happy and that proves how much she values their childhood friendship.
7. She has casually implicitly mentioned to Kali a lot of times that it is not okay or normal to be trapped and blindly follow Badke Papa like this.
8. She was genuinely worried about Kali's wellbeing when she came back from the temple after the fire incident and when the bus left her behind.
9. She equally opposed and reprimanded Neelu Bhaiya when he did wrong to Sharmila Di.
10. She stopped the girls from calling Kali her servant and acknowledged her as a sister figure. Basically, she has the best interests for everyone, including her own self at heart.

Now please clarify, how does that make her a bad person?

Needless to say, even Fenil Di felt hurt and considerably upset with the misappropriation of her character in the article. She replied to them:

Even after this happened, neither the website nor article writers have issued an apology for the same. It is my humble request to everyone who reads this and is on Twitter to show support and help the TOI article writers understand her character before labelling her as an 'antagonist'.

Thanks for reading.

She is not even grey yet atleast. Negative kaise hogayi. She is just arrogant and brat. That too because of that vamp kalyani and her parents who didn't correct her, instead they spoiled her.

At the risk of not offending the actress, she needs to take a chill pill. Gauri does have traits of an antagonist and the actress might not think so, but that does not mean its not there. Yes people are selfish and its not an automatic trait of negativity, however Gauri has continuously been mean to Kaali (spoilt brat or bad upbringing, does not excuse such behavior especially not to a girl who has been nothing but a servant to her), and using her as the voice and then taking credit for it? Like whats the difference between what Gauri's father does and Gauri's doing? Not much. Both use Kaali for their own advantage... Gauri is the offspring of Vishwa and her mother after all...her mother had good in her until she was consumed with jealousy of her own sister...so such traits will not come as a surprise to audiences. HOWEVER, I would want Fenil as another protagonist in the show rather than antagonist but unless the makers work on it, the general home audience will not feel anything for her.

Another thing its because of her behavior, Sharmila got in shit with her family and that led to her nearly being molested. I am not blaming Gauri here as that was not her fault but she was the catalyst. Their lies, and Sharmila's want to stand up for her humiliation led to the situation.

The makers need to make Kaali grow a backbone to enable the audience to realise Gauri is not bad but just a brat. At the moment, what Gauri is doing is on a mediocre level of what Vishwa hs been doing to Kaali. Using Kaali for their own benefit... (Don't get me wrong here, as Kaali also uses Gauri for her own satisfaction ie her loser of an adopted male's affection...but again its for the benefit of Gauri in the longer run...so who is the loser here sort of thing?))

The makers need to wake up and work on Gauri and Kaali's character because Gauri has always been a delight since she was young and its sad to see how she has changed and the fact that Kaali doesnt seem to affect her at all. Plus Kaali needs to grow a backbone and stop being a meek, that way the audience wont yawn at her constant sheepish acts.

Hopefully with this confusion track, Gauri will be able to portray what she is truly about by showing Kaali exactly what sort of B**** Vishwa is.

Thanks for providing a fresh new perspective to this 👏👏👏
I agree with all the points you have mentioned, but the fact remains that she has not signed the show as an antagonist and so did not like that term being associated to her character. Each to their own. Yes. The makers have the responsibility to be able to portray characters more clearly and make them strong enough to be able to distinguish who is the protagonist and antagonist. You are right about the fact that the Neelu Bhaiya- Sharmila incident was brought about indirectly because she did not wanna sit for the exams and had Kali as a proxy which is ethically wrong. Hoping Gauri takes a stand now too: For Kali, For Sharmila and for herself.

@RTme0w... No one signs a show with the intention of becoming an antagonist when they have been promised a lead role examples include Pakhi of Ek Mutthi Aasman (PH's previous show) and Swaragini, role of Ragini ... (Apologies for mentioning other shows, and I do not intend to compare but merely using them as an example of a point.) ... Where the actors were promised H (heroine) and got delivered V (villain)...if you catch my drift...

But like I said I like Gauri's character as you can relate more to it than Kaali's. But the makers are not using the Fenil to perfection by showing a character growth and that is upsetting. HOWEVER HOWEVER HOWEVER, with this confusion track, I hope she becomes a focal part and we do start to see the real Gauri who is lost in her world at present as she feels disgusted to be Vishwa's daughter and rightly so. Gauri calls a spade a spade, and I like that but she needs to also be mindful that her actions have bad consequences and once she starts to realise that, then she would be a wonderful character.👍🏼 When the whole Yug, Kaali and Gauri triangle comes in full swing, we will get to see exactly how Gauri is as a character, whether history will be repeat itself (Manjiri, Vishwa and Gauri's mother), or whether the newer generations will have a stronger plea to live life fully without sharing the love of their life sorta thing.) On this instance my only faith will be on Gauri!😃

@_innocent_ Yess. I completely understand your frustrations with the plot. It is now up to the CVs and makers to determine her fate as a character. The examples used were apt, they started off as positive leads and ended up as negative for a longer period of time. I am hoping too that Gauri does show herself as a positive character in this confusion track. 😳
