Credit for that goes to that cultural genius Sushma, who 'pointed out' that even though their husbands had betrayed them, they still owed it to their culture to keep wearing those symbols of marriage. This from the gal who allowed herself to be pimped to Thakkar, and who cheated w/ her sister's bf before marrying him.

Incidentally, once Pankaj asked Jyoti for divorce, isn't he entitled to the Mangal Sutra back? I mean, he's marrying someone else, so he'd have to give her one as well, and he can't have 2 Mangal Sutras in his name out there, can he? Also, if Pankaj were to die, would Jyoti keep wearing it?

Same goes for her sindur - she shouldn't be wearing that either.

Well technically, untill the divorce is is done (even though they've signed the papers) they're still technically married (and it was technically illegal for Pankaj to get engaged again)
Im sure in the future there will be this super emotional scene (whith mara hevda mein chot lagi in the background) where the divorce is pushed through and Jyoti removes her mangalsutra and sindoor
In retrospect, why does Sushma still weat her MS and sindoor? And why not divorce Brij? He's in jail for spousal abuse, she'll get a divorce easily from him

^^^^In the episode on Neelam's engagement, Neelam's mom asked CM about the divorce, and her willingness to wait, and CM told her that Jyoti had signed it, and they's simply show that paper in court. Aside from that, all they need to do is go thru the ceremony, even if they register once the divorce is granted.

I don't think Jyoti will ever be forced to remove those things, and if she hasn't done it so far, I don't think she'll do it once the divorce is complete. And there is nothing that either Pankaj nor CM can do to force her not to wear the mangalsutra, sindoor, and they can't even stop her using the name 'Vashisth', even though Jyoti has stopped using it.

As for Sushma, being as supersitious and idiotic as her mom, she's not going to ask for a divorce for the same 'cultural' reasons she cited above, even though she'd never again join Brij. So if a guy is interested in her and comes alone, he'll see those things, think she's taken and move on.

I really wish Jyoti and Sushma both re-married before putting pressure on Deepu - that way, he'd have independently decided who to invite, and Sudha's invitation would not have forced Jyoti's absense, since Jyoti would not have been in the position to force such terms.
