Warning: ☢️
- I watch the show purely for entertainment, am not that familiar with the technical jargon of it all & for the most part, my knowledge regarding dance extends to the dance forms' names? ^^"
- Some spoilers & subsequent speculations included.
I only managed to catch most of the highlights of the auditions but watched the mega auditions plus top 21 fully, & can I first of all just say I'm mega impressed? 😆 The show's not only tasteful but the judges seem fit for the job as well. Vaibhavi & Farah, despite their antics (admittedly annoying) in the earlier episodes have toned down & come straight to business. They give some pretty darn good straight-forward comments & I find them to be the perfect foil for HR's gentlemanly gentle manner of going about things. At the same time, despite HR's kind disposition, he doesn't mince words either when eliminating a contestant & this is perhaps very vital because it's just plain cruel to create drumroll & delay the decision declaring if all you're going to do is crush the person's hopes dashing their dreams. There's no real nice way to break bad news is there, anyway?! >_>
Moving onto the talented twenty-one, I really feel that these people deserve their spots, despite the odd one or two who have been taken in for 'potential'. As for the controversy surrounding Trisheila (inaptly coined so by Vaibhavi), I'm just glad she's not in the top 13 because at the end of the the day, what matters is that this final cut consist of the absolute best so that the judges relieve the decision making on the audience with the right group of contestants. I for one thoroughly enjoyed this auditioning process, for us viewers got ample time to distinguish the good dancers from the bad ones, not to mention familiarising with them sufficiently by the time the real voting out starts.
Neverthless, I think the true creme de la creme is the thrilling thirteen who made the cut (information courtesy the 'spoiler: top 13' article). 👍🏼 The group contains a multitude of fortes, not to mention a bunch of very talented & unique people capable of doing different dance forms. They can give technically flawless performances with a dash of their own unique flavours & have the scope of absorbing more.
& now, I shall prompty go to full fan mode. 😆
My favourite of the 1st audtions was Karan Singh Pangali. ^_^ He was incredible then, every movement clear, confidence personified. But after that, unfortunately, he just went downhill for me, the fact being perhaps that a real comparision could be made come next round, all of his fellow group members out-dancing him *in every sense of the word* in the mega audition. *disappointed* (also, I visited his page KSPARK on YT last month & didn't find anything extraordinary there either 😕) & though I felt sorry for Suchna & Ashish because it felt like they had to become the scapegoats of the situation, I think letting them go was the right decision as well. Especially after reading the article of who made it into the top 13, everything just made sense. Aman Aujla could do a mean hip-hop but so can the (In)genius Irfan (whose every performance by far has been absolute eyecandy😆, love how his moves depict a particular action & not just random popping & locking) & Hitesh, both who thought out of the box, their auditions being extremely classy. 👏
Can I just say I'm glad Namita didn't make it? (Sorry if I'm offending any fans out there, but I'm just expressing my view here) Even if the audition was peppy, her tap dancing wasn't as good as hyped to be, she could barely keep to the fast beat in both the solo & group performance (though maybe that's only because she was surrounded by 3 dancers far better than her >_>). Agreed, she's beautiful, seemingly a very sweet person as well & she said she could do other dance forms too but I doubt she'd be able to go out & beyond... Which can be said for a lot of people who were let go. Whatever the case, my heartstrings got pulled more often than I'd like to admit every time someone was eliminated.
(Btw, does anyone else find it odd that there hasn't been even a little squeak of Saagar Chavan? He's suspiciously missing from the top 13 too inspite of him being lauded as one of the best. Can his low-laying be related to Surjeet's coming back? & I'm almost 100% sure it's our resident tapori getting the coveted invitation in the next episode. Yayyy, if so. 😆 His solo piece cracked me up! 🤣 & the dhinka-chika act was thoroughly tickling. 😆)
As for last weekend's performances, I'm just blown away with all the talent. 😳 Like everyone else, I found Kruti, Ankan & Rajit simply amazing. Fascinatingly *on a side note* (this is a point mentioned on the forum previously in a member's comment & I agree to it), it looks like people who can do contemporary are extremely versatile. But then again for me, it might be my bias *& love* for Ankan speaking.
⭐️ Ankan Sen ⭐️
Need it even be said he's my new favourite? I truly fell in love with his work during the mega auditions & that less-than-a-minute's piece of contemporary has stuck in my mind like super glue remaining my favourite to date. Anyway, he had me at no, ma'am, when Vaibhavi asked him whether he was nervous the moment he came for the try-outs. What I love about him is how every dance of his is so meaningful. I don't know whether this is because of his forte & its scope for interpretation, but I just love the blend of pathos & romance in his performances. Was honestly moved by his solo & at the end, just like HR, all I could say was 'Wah!'. 👏
Confession: I was actually expecting him to get eliminated at top 21 because I reckoned he wouldn't be able to go beyond his forte at such a young age especially since he has been training without his parents' consent all these years. Sometimes, it's just such a wonderful thing to be wrong. ^_^ My jaw dropped at his funk jazz & hip-hop, he is just graceful whatever he does. & I think he's proof you can be anything you want if you put your mind to it. I swear, this kid has so much more talent than meets the eye. (Btw, did anyone notice Farah & Vaibhavi beaming like proud parents when HR goes to give Ankan the top 12 trophy & he's just dumbstruck with awe there? 😆)
Another one I'm keeping my eye on is Swarali. Her previous solo was excellent & even though the attempt at hip-hop was fairly mediocre, her confidence & determination to do her best was glaring like neon lights through & through, very commendable traits that. At least shows she tried to give it her all in the given period of time. Either way, her lively nautanki was mesmerising, the hula hoop hypnotising me almost completely, lol. O_O
In my opinion, everyone's game right now. I urge those who watch JD to look beyond technical perfection, looks & charm because there are dancers with so much more even if they are lacking sorely in the physical department. I've found some performances by 'charismatic good-looking' people practically perfect if you were looking for skill alone, but empty & lifeless because expressions & emotions were missing. =/
Ankan has stayed my favourite for 2 weeks straight but nevertheless I'm rooting for each & every person on the top 13 from our pretty, ethereal ballerinas to the earthy Meher Malik (for whom I'm reserving my good compliments till she dishes out a dance the calibre of her India's Got Talent performances), the breakdancers to the story-tellers of Kathak & contemporarians.
& more & more!
P.S. Okay, that wasn't short at all. I hope I didn't drive anyone to a deep slumber. >_>
P.P.S. Agree or disagree, chip in your thoughts as well!
