How has the experience of judging Just Dance been?
When I signed the show I thought I will easily be able to pick my favourites but one after the other, each dancer was exceptional. Picking from 30 thousand to 51 to 21, I have never been through so much emotional upheaval in life. Dancers have a certain aura, a certain peace on their face when you watch them dance and that comes across in the show. STAR Plus has achieved a dream. People have gone beyond their limits for this show. I feel blessed that so many people will get such a fantastic platform through me. It is a dream come true for me.
What is the aim of the show?
The main thing is talent. Just Dance is a mission across the globe to find the best dancers. The show goes beyond anything I have seen in life. Even I will get to learn so much from these contestants.
What according to you is the main attraction of Just Dance?
Apart from the grand prize of Rs 1 crore and a car, the main attraction is that the winner will get immortalized in a video with me. The money can be spent and will get over but this will also remain with him/ her .It can become their show reel.
What will you say about the tagline- Sab Kuchh Bhula Ke Just Dance?
Sab Kuchh Bhula Ke Just Dance is not just applicable to the contestants. Dance is for you, me, families, housewives, children and everyone else. Dance is an expression and everyone should just switch on music and dance like no one is watching. It does not matter if others consider you mad.
Just Dance has both Indian participants as well as contestants from abroad; whom would you rate as better dancers?
We have this mindset of geographical boundaries. In my opinion the contestant who sells fruits in Chandigarh and has learnt dance by watching others, is as good a dancer as Anjuli from the US who has trained in contemporary dance since childhood. Dance and music is universal. I can assure you that after watching them you will not be able to tell which contestant comes from which place.
How do you manage to take out time for Just Dance in spite of your hectic schedule?
The definition of a successful man is not about how much money he makes. Every person who can control time is successful. I give Just Dance as much time as it requires and keep shooting till everything is done. You cannot restrict creativity to time.
Despite being the God of dance, which dance form do you find tough?
I find all dances difficult. I start from zero and then the process begins. I am no God of dance. I am happy that I have become a symbol of dance and will call myself a hardworking dancer.
Which dancers do you idolize?
I idolize Michael Jackson and the God of formless dance Shammi Kapoor.
