Problem is...
For most mothers love for a child > anything in this world.
For Ammijaan, the love for a child could not be > than sorrow/adversity/giving up love/poverty etc...
so she left...
From the lines 'purple bruises' on her wrists... which she tries to cover up with her sleeve... (chapter 57)
it shows she's always been quietly nervous, never really HAPPY happy... never quite forgiven herself for leaving her child... it was a Patriarchal society... she couldn't go against her husband (esp a powerful one) or who knew what he'd do to Akbar?
In secret, she has tried to reconnect, but Akbar would have none of it!
