Interesting fact about the Muqannis (and the canal that features in this story often)-

Qanats are the Persian methods of irrigating natural ground water to another area.

Mineral, salt & other deposist accumulate in these tunnels of the canal (qannat) and necessitate periodic cleaning and maintenance. The Muqannis undertake digging, cleaning and repair works for which they're paid well. Floods and soil spill into the Qanat tunnels frequently and deaths among Muqannis occur. These Muqannis command respect and have an inspired body of folk customs and beliefs. A Muqanni will not work on a day he considers unlucky for e.g. if he sneezes. Older Muqannis are considered blessed, and prayers are performed each time they descend into Qanat (canal)

I found another interesting picture that depicts the Mughal Administration...

the branch that's referred to as Akbhar Nawis (Police and intelligence) is the branch that AMK's men work as/work for. The men working under him would be called Waqia-Nawis! 😊

Me and learn Bengali? All I did was type Sapthami greetings.. and this came up (of course, I was praying that the words in it says Maha Saptami - if it said something else I'd be left looking silly)... Nevertheless took the plunge and t'was right

Lol... if this is akin to Bengali learning.. I only need a day to learn about 50 languages me thinks 😆
