Folks,

I have been overdoing things with a vengeance these last 3/4 days, and now it seems to be payback time. I am thus shutting up shop for the next 2 days at least, if not 3, and will see you all on Sunday next on Lashy's Thread No.4, while she gets busy launching Thread No. 5.

Bye for now then!

I have a break in the few minutes, tomorrow a dinner party, guests.. I very much lack the skills of Krishna to multiply. 😃
Dear Shyamala! I wish you good health and thank you for all links. I will be them to read quietly after Friday.
Dear Shagun! You cause in me great admiration. We call such children - Wunderkind. An youth - the most difficult time, too much stress and psychological and at school. Your talent - more than your age a lot!
Dear Lashy! Your story is so exciting! But in this story, I realize, that you learn a huge amount of information that to write.
Dear Saraswathi! Thank you for your kind words! In fact, I admire what talented people on the forum!
But, if I have correctly understood the translation: ". Right from my school days, we were only given to understand that no one was allowed to know anything about the things happening beyond the Iron Curtain", it makes me sad.
The history of my country is very sad, hard, difficult and heroic. But this, of course, refers to the history of any country.
We sometimes joke that Russia puts an experiment on itself and show what necessary to do and what do not. 😊
When I was in school, we were taught that India is one of the few countries, which are the friend of the Soviet Union. I still remember the slogan "Hindi, Roosee - bhaiyon".
I knew that in Europe attitude to the Soviet Union was "cautious", but that for India also Russia was a country beyond the "Iron Curtain", I was surprised.
There is anecdote:

- Who are you?
- Who am I? I'm a good fairy!
- And why .. with an ax?
- You see, as little you know about the good fairies!

That's about as little I know ... 😃

I have no illusions about our past, I know the history of repression is very well. But now, when the Soviet Union is no more, not only me, many people have understood what the country lost, and that would be good to keep.
Free education, music schools - any parent could teach a child music, in Hermitage (Winter Palace, St. Petersburg) every Sunday free courses for schoolchildren in art history).
Freedom and education for women, especially for of women of our East.
Freedom of religion.
Destruction pale of settlement. In tsarist Russia, Jews were not allowed to live in the big cities, in school had the right to study, only 5% of Jewish children. At the University Jews could study only if accepted Christianity. It seems resemble of Rajputs during the reign of Mughal? 😊
If would (but history has no subjunctive mood) we could save the good without the bad.

Dear Zhanna,
Your reply is indeed very touching. As you say any country has a sad, hard and heroic past history. Let us remember the good things.
I was a student when Krushchev paid a visit to India, when Nehru was the PM. It was then the slogan "Hindi- Roussie-Bhaiyon" was heard everywhere. In fact, India continued to be in good alliance with Russia, for many years after Independence.
I mentioned "Behind the iron curtain" because at that age, I was told that Soviet Union was a very strong power and everything was kept very secretive..It created an awe in the minds of us when we were children.
There is a fairy tale about a good fairy having an axe. When the woodcutter lost his axe, she appeared before him and tested his honesty by asking him to point out his axe showing him the golden, silver and his own axe one after the other..
Thank you Zhanna,
Saraswathi aunty.

First if all, it is great to have you with us. You lend a different perspective to things and your quotes are very interesting to read.🤗

Russia, to an average Indian has probably been a mystery. Earlier it was a super power that was politically on friendly terms with India. And now it is an enigma.😕 Sadly, we ( may be i should say I, but i presume it is the general case) are not acquainted with Russian history, (Yes. Our school text books elaborate on European history and to some extent American too, but Russia, hardly a passing reference. We have lessons on the southern continents too in geography, but not on Russia) The English language makes the European Australian and American literature and news and happenings familiar with us, but Russia has always been a mystery. The society, the religious beliefs, the education, literature and music - we are completely unaware except perhaps the references in stories.

That makes your posts doubly interesting. It is a small window to an otherwise unfamiliar territory.😊 Would like to know more about your place. That would be a first hand account and not a hyped shaded version that stories give us.😊

Thank you so much Zhanna...🤗 Means a lot when it's coming from you! 😳

To be honest, I don't know a lot about Russia, since we aren't taught much about it in school. At the most, we know that the Soviet Union had been a great power of it's time.

So for me, as Sandhya di said, you're opening up a way to learn about something I don't know well. It's interesting to know about your country, would love to read more. 😊

Keep posting, dear! 😃

Dearest Saraswathi Di! With deep respect and great sympathy for you! 🤗
Well, I finally, I understood! I'm confused in time. If "measure" in the politicians, everything becomes more clearer! I was born when already was Brezhnev and I became a student, when Brezhnev died. Other era ... 😊

I mentioned "Behind the iron curtain" because at that age, I was told that Soviet Union was a very strong power and everything was kept very secretive..It created an awe in the minds of us when we were children.
I will not say that we were not. We were ... But the internal and external conditions in the world were those, they would simply "eaten" of us. We have a wonderful poem, "The Times didn't choose, in they live and die ..." In Russian it rhymes.
In 1957 was the International Student Festival has taken place the in Moscow. Many countries to came to us! We was... various.

There is a fairy tale about a good fairy having an axe. When the woodcutter lost his axe, she appeared before him and tested his honesty by asking him to point out his axe showing him the golden, silver and his own axe one after the other..
Thank you Zhanna,
Saraswathi aunty.
I remembered this story, I read it a long time ago, thank you!
We have published a series of books "Fairy tales of people of the World", but I don't remember which country belonged this tale. There woodcutter explained why chose his ax: gold would break, and the silver bent. And he has to have work.
Only our "good fairy" isn't of this tale, and really with an ax .. 😃 We love jokes in a series of "black humor". At us a joke: what kind of life - such and kind fairies. 😛

Dear Sandhya! 🤗
Thank you! And I am very pleased that you are interested in my country. In fact, it is in Russia, India has always been considered a mysterious country with a great history and a great spiritual quest. 😊
Back in the 15th century: merchant Athanasius Nikitin "... became the first European who reached India in the XV century (more than 25 years before the Portuguese seafarer Vasco da Gama)." !
In the 20th century was Roerich family.
Stanislav Roerich married with Indian actress Devika Rani, niece of Rabindranath Tagore. Here such are the close ties between Russia and India. We can say: we have kinship relations. 😃
We had a film with a very beautiful song in his poems.
It was called "You and not dreamed " of first love. Poems from the novel that Tagore wrote "The Last Poem" in 1929, Labonno's answer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k98wVFVdnic

We have a lot of studying to India, but it is more scientific and spiritual practices. And for me very interested: education, family relations, art, music. I, pity, do not know the modern symphonic music of India. In JA are awesome composers! I especially like the theme, when Jodha and Jalal warmed hands after her poisoning. Very talented and beautiful theme! There's all the music is very beautiful!

I'm will be glad to tell you all that you are interested and I am very interested all of you.

Politics often interfere with life. But in a free communication between people friendliness always wins.I was in America in 2008, in a very difficult time of foreign policy. But all treated us very well and very kindly, when they learned that we were from Russia. I really liked the people in America.
I hope, I will can know a lot from here.
