Well, Harshu my dear, and my little Shagun too, Parijat is not just beautiful and meaningful like a flower, it is a divine flower that bloomed on a tree that was in Lord Indra's garden. Its fragrance never faded.

The devarishi Narada, always out to create mischief, brought a parijata flower from there and gave it to Lord Krishna at a time when he was with Rukmini, his first consort. So Lord Krishna gave her the flower.

When she was told about this by, who else, Narada😉, Satyabhama, Lord Krishna's gorgeous, arrogant second queen, lost her temper since she had not been given the rare flower instead of Rukmini. She even lashed out at her husband, though she repented later. Lord Krishna then promised to bring the Parijata tree from Indraloka and plant it in her compound. He fought Indra for the parijata tree and brought it back to Dwarka for Satyabhama.

Now comes the twist in the tale. Though the parijaata tree was planted in Satyabhama's garden, the branches used to bend towards the adjacent garden, that of the simple, gentle, kind Rukmini, and all the rare parijaata flowers used to bloom in her garden!

Isn't it a beautiful story? As for your parijat, Ruqaiya and Jalal would be a good fit for Satyabhama and Lord Krishna, though I do not think that Jodha was at all like mild, self-effacing Rukmini!😉

I once wrote a post called The tilting of the scales about the episode 104 where Jodha's birthday is celebrated and Jalal puts a single ring in the balance and it tips the scales. There, I had slotted Jalal in as Rukmini!😉😉Anyone interested can see it at

Folks,

I have been overdoing things with a vengeance these last 3/4 days, and now it seems to be payback time. I am thus shutting up shop for the next 2 days at least, if not 3, and will see you all on Sunday next on Lashy's Thread No.4, while she gets busy launching Thread No. 5.

Bye for now then!

My dear Zhanna,
Thank you so much for your lovely words. In fact I should thank you for letting me know about the social and cultural sides of your motherland . Right from my school days, we were only given to understand that no one was allowed to know anything about the things happening beyond the Iron Curtain. From your posts I find that you have an artistic mind , as may be seen from the photos of the view of the dusk you posted in the early chapters of Lashy's story, humble yet very generous in bestowing your appreciation on each good work, always yearning to learn more and so many others. Actually I am fortunate to know you and acquaint myself with you in the forum .
Cheers
Saraswathi aunty.

Dear Saraswathi Di!
Thank you very much! For me great honored that you have devoted to me these words! I have always admired your talent. Your children and grandchildren (and us here) are very lucky. 😃 It is wonderful that there is an Internet space, because that wrote "Baby Sarasa" and your the poems-reflection is remarkable!
I'm very, very glad that you like our Bulat Okudzhava. He was a very special poet. It would seem: simply a middle-aged man with a guitar (not a young and handsome boy) - he was collecting huge halls. His poems were recited and sung all over the country and still sung. The song is about his historical-adventure novel "Journey of dilettantes".

Oooh Ok periyamma... I just vaguely remembered mods shutting down threads that crossed 150 pages ... but that was ages ago... in another forum lol...

Hee hee carry on...😃

😆Lashy di, continuing in this thread is not a problem, I think. 150 is just a limit defined, I don't think 20-30 pages more would make any considerable difference.

Okkk I get the point...

Wow Aunty, It really is a beautiful tale! 😳

Thank you so much for sharing it here. I had heard this flower had some connection to Lord Krishna, but not the entire story...😆

It is interesting how even Lord Krishna had this 'clash-between-wives' problem...😆😉 Don't know if he enjoyed it like our Jalal though! 😉😆

Apart from being symbolic and meaningful, tales from Indian Mythology are entertaining as well. 😃
