No i doubt welcome and birthday party were arranged by one wife to another

But they stayed in same harem - if you read on harem many wives lived in single palace

Like in Akbar's time- Jehangir palace was where Jodha and all his hindu wives stayed

Ruqaiah and Salima had a single palace to stay

In Jehangir's time Jagat Gosain and a few other wives of Jehangir stayed in Jehangir palace
Not only Jehangirs wives but his brother Murad and Daniyals wives stayed in that palace. Jehangirs mothers stayed there so it was all mixed living

So we cannot say that wives never met each other, they stayed in same building in rooms next to each other so they definetly met each other frequently(whether they liked or not) and some may be good friends with each other(husband away on long wars and empire tours so what shall wives do?)

Akbar and Jehangir both rarely took entire harem or family on wars and tours(rare) so the women usually stayed back in palaces across empire while husbands or sons or brothers were away on long expeditions.

Regarding braveness to order a party for new wife by old one- that may have not happened only because emperor has servants to carry out that task. That was 16th century and husband was superior even an jhoru ka ghulam like jehangir and shah jahan. So the primary duty of wife was to please him and follow his orders. I doubt any wife dare say no if emperor says arrange a party for a new wife. But i guess to avoid any ego clashes the emperor would not tell such tasks to another wife.

A wife's power came from her husband even a nur jahan. All followed nur jahans order only because she was jehangir wife and only till jehangir lived. The moment he died everyone stopped obeying her commands simple. The power of a wife came from husband(or a queen mother or grand mother etc). On their own no one would bother to listen to a Hamida, Jodha, Ruqaiah, Nur Jahan, Mumtaz etc they were obeyed because they had powerful sons/husbands behind them.

I had no clue it rained so heavily in Nov-Dec in Chennai.
Take care.

Thank you Sandhya for your reply.
We also hope that the situation will improve in a week. It is also another nightmare if you think about the aftermath!

Saraswati Aunty,

Rains are horrible here. There was power cut for the past 36 hrs and power has just resumed in our area for the last 2 hrs or so. Don't know about others. Mobile networks were off for more than 12 hrs. There was water water everywhere but no water for essentials!

But things are expected to get much better by 6th. So u need not worry on conditions on 10th (I think)

Dear Shyamala Aunty,
Sorry for the late response. Assignment time again! Loved your take and agree with what you say about Jodha's post hawaii visit. That is exactly how it looks but I do think Saraswathi aunty and Lavnya are right in guessing what it was the inept CVs probably wanted to convey. How we wish they had managed it properly for once!

PRC is a treat though not all of it is available (Rajat's parts I mean. I could not watch even one of the post-Rajat episodes just as I could not watch MP post-leap)

Hoping to be back with comments and soon but... I completely understand how you must feel after giving your more than 100% to these analyses!

Warmest Regards
Ashwinee

Dear Shyamala,
God morning!
Thank you very much for your beautiful reply.
My advice is that instead of abruptly stopping , you can gradually reduce the number of your posts. You can skip those episodes that are unworthy of any review and select only those that are really praiseworthy.
Your analyses are like a guide to a Ph.D research student and are like featured articles in the Wikipedia and will be useful at all the times. Of course members like me will be disappointed, because it has become a habit for us to expect your posts every Sunday and Thursday like we used to wait for the postman in those days! It is like how eagerly I would be waiting to read the serial by my most favourite writer in my favourite magazine which would be on the stands every Friday!

However the decision is yours. (Do you have a 'tharasu' like Jalal has in Agra?)

Saraswathi.

How thoughful of you to understand where I am coming from? Anyhow, let me first take care of tomorrow's post!

Your husband was obviously very wise, and that shows in the quote you have cited. There is neither anger nor frustration, just a simple acceptance of the existing state of things.

I don't feel quite the same; it is more like: I have done all this, and I really never wanted to do it all over again. My problem is that I find it very hard to say No! to friends. Which is why I am here, while Mandy, who made me start this, is nowhere to be seen these days! The old enthusiasm and sense of excitement is naturally all gone.

Anyhow, one big plus for me is getting to know you, though this could have been done 2 years ago. Well, better late than never, I suppose.

Don't delete the post, Akka, why should you? In any case, it will stay on as part of my response.

Take care.

Shyamala,

This is deluge! Pralayam! Which occurs very rarely and only very few have the chance to see and experience. With all the latest technology that man has exploited/explored trying to make the world look like a very small ball, such incidents make his endeavours very questionable . With such a downpour, the city has become completely isolated, and unreachable with no essential things accessible.

If the downpour for a fortnight or so can cause such a havoc, I can imagine the Biblical incident ,the deluge after a continuous rain for forty days and forty nights!

Saraswathi.

P.S. "Kalki" has named the 4 parts of his novel "Alai Osai' as Boogambam (the Earthquake), Puyal (the Storm) Erimalai (the Volcano) and Pralayam (the Deluge)
to portray the different disturbed emotions of the heroine of the story. Who can accurately predict all those happenings?

Dear Shyamala,
##
Yes. I understand your frustration.
It is exactly like the Temple chariot procession. The devotees, who showed enthusiasm in the aarohaN of the deity, followed the chariot to some distance, but are not seen anywhere in the vicinity. Though the deity is willing to give Dharshan and blessings, how can the chariot proceed without a force to push?

@@
Thank you for your compliment. But I started watching the JA show from You-tube only from last year and came into the forum still later.

Saraswathi.
