My continuation of thoughts on your magnificent post-
1 Jalal was on the verge of decapitaing that assassin's head. What value would there have been of this pilgrimage if he had done that, in cold blood, in front of everyone. There was not a moment to spare. Had Jodha not intervened, he would have done it. That is why Jodha's behavior in that situation was not objectionable. It was the right thing to do.There is no Maryada in emergencies.

2 Jodha's acidic comments a few moments later were of course unfortunate, but Jalal has heard her say worse and he has learned to tune her out on such occasions.

3 Jalal is extra considerate towards Jodha because he considers her a recovering patient. After the suicide attempt he is unsure of how much she can take.

4 As for Jodha's accusations, they were spur of the moment words precipitated by her hatred for what Jalal and the Mughal empire stand for. Only game changing actions of Jalal are going to dissipate this resentment. You can already see one game changing action, Jalal saving Jodha's life from the Tiger, and one can already see improvement in her attitude towards him.

5 Wow! That turn of the tide paragraph is a masterpiece of writing. How evocative!

6 Your logic that Jalal's understanding behavior is because of the kinship he feels with Jodha over both being rootless. That logic agrees with me, I believe it reinforces his recovering patient outlook towards Jodha.

7 The hurt in Jalal's words as he makes a joke of the snake incident. Nobody describes it better.

8 Very perceptive reasoning of why Jalal wants Jodha's company on the hunt. Totally agree.

9 The logic of Jodha being a challenge for Jalal is another thoughtful argument, and again I agree totally with you.

10 The Jodha psychological analysis was terrific. She is indeed a small town girl with a very limited experience of life. The missing apology reasoning is perfect.

Rarely have I see a post with so much psychological underpinning. This is enthralling stuff.

11 I enjoyed reading your mannat scene. The lover and the beloved argument makes sense, and before leap it was obvious, who was who. After the leap, I don't know. That distinction was no longer clear cut.

12 I so enjoy the occasional humorous comment. My answer for the Nirdosh Pashu quiz, is it 5.

13 I really don't know what to say about the Tiger scene and it's aftermath. It was superlative stuff. A gripping performance by Rajat as the dying man and an equally good act by Paridhi as the horrified wife whose blunder has come to haunt her. The pain in Jalal's eyes, the stuttering words, the panic on Jodha's face, the copious tears, all of it enthralling.

And you brought it alive in your analysis.

14 Need I tell you what happened when I read the lunch options for Mohan. I had a tea cup in my hand.

15 To more serious stuff. A tiger is 200 kg of solid muscle, aided by sharp claws and teeth, and a considerably faster reaction time than humans. There is no man who could wrestle with it bare handed and live to tell the tale.

This was a wonderful post to read and think about. Now all I have to do is search my little shrub of a first post in this thick jungle of 14 pages, for your response to my comments.

khushi bang on yaar! unprofessionalism is the correct word used for such a behaviour! if this BD news was not out we would not have known what actually happened as the media was not allowed to go to the sets! i too could not enjoy the show after such hue and cry over kisses on the cheek scene where BD was used and what about those air kisses😆..it all left a bad taste in a love saga which became more of a touch me not saga and discomfort was clearly visible, i think such people who have so many restrictions should not be in such an industry and also they should make it clear before signing the contract which was not the case here! jennifer winget did lay her conditions and i do not blame her for not doing certain scenes but whatever she did had her expressions right!

Sri,

You are too young, otherwise you would have said Wesley Hall! During the 1960 West Indies tour of Australia, Hall and Gilchrist pulverised the Aussies.

I am deeply flattered by your lavish encomiums, my dear, and I am very pleased that you enjoyed these posts of mine.

I really regret what the Jodha Akbar CVs have done mainly because Rajat and Paridhi were such a spectacularly good-looking pair, plus he is a superb, very nuanced actor and she too is quite good at times. They could have make something epic with them, but the opportunity of a lifetime was recklessly squandered. I say of a lifetime because this jodi will never be there again. It is a huge pity.

As for your summing up of the serial, I agree with it, but need you ask? It is the same with all Ekta Kapoor serials. I have watched only one of hers for any length of time, but I am told that it is so.

😆
Akka's responses are like Malcom Marshall, Desmond Haynes, Glenn Mcgrath and wasim akram bowling but not to Brian lara / Tendulkar /VVS Laxman 😆 but to the likes of Ravindra Jadeja.
😆
Absolute bouncers in terms of logic and precision of why there was no love or epicness if there was a story ? Insanification theme was proof of that. Come on - One of the greats of entire history accepted all over the world had learn the A to Z from his JODHA Begum only ?!! 😆
After been with the 1st run, I now firmly think that the serial was ONLY about JODHA MAHANTAA from day 1 and that IS THE ONLY knot the CVs/Makers had steadily among all other tamashas.
This is my conclusive take on this serial and no one needs to agree with me. 😃

i agree shyamala these two no doubt looked great together eventhough most of their scenes together lacked the depth of characterization and that could have been worked upon and then the script is also to be blamed that chewed up akbar's brains and replaced it with jodha's forced mahaanta which i still cannot digest to the day and then the ending less talked the better..i did rather watch akbar beaten in mirchi war than pressing legs arms and feet of jodha after her long day as if akbar had nothing better to do..an alpha male of 16th century, who was a workaholic and slept only 4 hrs had all the time for feet pressing makes me laugh😆

Mandy dearest,

How lovely to hear from you again! I hope you have been recovering satisfactorily, and that the doctor is satisfied with your progress.

I hope you have been reading my posts now that you are back at home. Did you like this one? Especially the The darkness descends part? I worked quite hard on that one.

Mandy, there is no end to our laments about what could have been. Now that we are watching the show all over again, the regrets resurface sharper than ever. Do take a look at my response to Devki, who was replying a post of mine to her. It is somewhere her, on page 10, I think. I had made a resolution not to get into any Jalal-Jodha comparison exercise, but this was about whether Jodha Akbar was an epic love story, and I could not resist responding!

Did you like Bhansali's Devdas? There was some discussion about it a few pages back, and in my response to Devki and Sandhya, I had given the co-ordinates for a review of that film that I wrote, which was carried by Rediff. com. Read it, you will enjoy it. It is at

But why should he be near the Jodha Akbar team? Was it at some awards function?

Hello Adiana,
@ Bold...Now that's a very beautiful and deep way to put it. I do agree with you. Jodha's lack of reciprocation for a large part of this show between the Sukanya marriage track and the twin track was extremely off putting at times. I too would have loved to see a vulnerable Jodha who yearns and actively seeks the attention and presence of her lover. We never got to see her vulnerbilities and insecurities as a wife of the Emperor with a large Harem😕

However, perhaps you and me are talking about 2 different things wrt to the death Knell?

We all agree that the epic love story became an epic disappointment. I just happen to think the reason you and Shyamala stated was only one of three major reasons.

The truth is that you, Shyamala ,and others perhaps prefer a more complex, "layered " approach to the love story. I happen to have a more simplistic approach...I like my love stories to be clean and relatively uncomplicated. That is the reason the Jodha-Akbar and Mughle azam movies appealed to me so much.

Anyways, Khushi, I am borrowing your disclaimer that these views are my personal ones and I too dont want to get into a debate about them. I am not trying to change anyone's opinions here. So cheers! and to each to his own 😊

Preeti, we Jalalphlies will fully agree that the death knell to the epicness of this love story came from Jalal - as Jodha was nowhere in the story as a lover and unless the beloved becomes lover the love story cannot be epic and this Jodha was only I me myself to this Jalal's lover, she never became a lover

You know Mandy, a part of me is pleased that Rajat did not go to Indonesia. I saw one or two videos of him in suit, for award ceremonies and he looked like a stuffed turkey, his suit bursting at the seam. It made him look fat, really fat. I don't think he is fat, he just has belly fat, not overall fat.

Add long hair to the appearance, my belief is long hair is good for very few men. Most men look ridiculous with hair down to the shoulders. When you are wearing the Mughal Taj, it does not matter, but in normal dress unruly hair does not look nice.

shyamala dearest i m doing absolutely fine now and the doctor gave me the green signal😊..i will read it again and respond to your post as the past ones i am already too late! and how are you doing my dear? how bad is the pain or is it still there? i have few days off work as we have to finish our vacation time before the year ends! so now i will have lots of time at hand to respond and read, yes i did like devdas and also am liking baajirao mastaani but many are criticizing that it is not real just like they did to devdas but that is SLB's way of showing cinema, some like and some don't! i do not mind the blingy stuff if tastefully done😉
