I meant a role like Devdas or maybe some comedy role. STAR PLUS has this fixed episode format for high quality shows, why not try his hand there. Something different, anything different. What is it in this new serial that he has not done earlier. Everything will be stale and mark my words, the ratings could be a factor too. The first CGM shut shop after 100 episodes and it was aired just 5 years back. As for heroine worship, c'mon you know Ekta, anything is possible in an Ekta show.

Charlton Heston did a lot many good roles other than his iconic Ben Hur, he starred in some great westerns and even as an airline pilot. I would never consider him a typecast hero.

I am not sure, Donjas. Unless Rajat goes into films, which is pure luck, the run of the mill male roles in TV will hardly suit him. So, if he has to stay in TV, and he cannot sit at home for too long, something like this will be much better for him that becoming a Manav or Arjun (in Pavitra Rishta). That would be a disaster, for he would never carry conviction.

Come to think of it, he can become the Charlton Heston of Hindi TV!

The good thing about this project is that there can be no heroine worship, as in Jodha Akbar. Helen is peripheral, as would be his other wife or wives, and the only person he would relate to would be Chanakya. A lot depends on the casting of Chanakya, and I hope it is not Ronit Roy!

Unfortunately, on reflection this news does not excite me. Rajat will once again be king, so he will have three king roles in his resume. I hope such a great actor is not remembered mockingly as the "king wala actor". Look at poor Govinda, a good actor(look at his performance in Hatya) but he will forever be remembered as the actor of vulgar comedy movies. He has been type cast and he is stuck.

In a world so full of great roles what was the need for another king role by Rajat. It is not as if Chandragupta Maurya is an awe inspiring never done before story. It was done just a few years back(on Imagine and lasted for 100 episodes). I was bored to death and made a vow never to watch any Hindi language program again. It is for this reason that I started so late on JA.

We had a brilliant Russian actors. Having played a role, which made them idols, they said, then, that such a role has broken their life. The public often requires copying a favorit image.
Rajat Tokas is huge talent and he is very industrious. Being without work for him will be very difficult. But really it would be a pity if he would play the same type of role.

Dear Shyamala!
I am with great pleasure read everything you write, but by asking questions, I feel remorse. I wish that you feel better! You have a wonderful literary talent and sense of style.

Yes, but his roles were generally larger than life: Moses, El Cid, General Gordon of Khartoum, the list is a long one, and these are the roles for which he is remembered though he was quite a limited actor.

And for Rajat to get the roles that you are talking about, they first have to be offered to him. He needs a very good agent and a lot of PR. I did not know that anyone is making Devdas for TV.

I even wonder if such multi-layered roles are even being written for Indian TV Shyamala. One can only do what is being made and that too if one is offered a chance. And its not just a matter of agent, its also a matter of getting chosen by a PH as well - but most of all its a matter of such roles actually being created.

I think devdas would have been ideal at this point but if CGM is actually happening and that also under BT banner then chances are that ekta will not start that many high budgeted shows all at once, she might make CGM a finite series show the rest depending on trps and once it is done devdas or chadrakanta might start and there is a possibility of rajat getting those shows as well...and donjas rajat is not made for male furniture character roles in daily sbs sagas, he did work for many such serials but none were remembered for his role other than PRC, he is suitable for larger than life characters and as shyamala said the rest would be disastrous! I personally want to see him in godfather type roles or scarface as he has that underworld goon type personality! A bad boy role will really suit him!

Shyamala Aunty,
You are so right...for Rajat to get the roles, he has to be offered them...and for sure he needs a great PR machine ...he is a misunderstood fellow...and it does not help that he choose a very few interviews... I wish I could reach out and help.

Shyamla aunty u r the gem of analysis ...first time when read ur review on mandy's farewell thread i was Very much surprised having read that heights of analysis and same as now u r the best ...nt able to come to thread as its not a task of few minutes ...bt can't control myself anymore for reading ur review .. ...
I like Ur explanation of ja' s anger upon her rejection... Rajat' s expressions to express any emos is always authentic and best bt seems angry shots r his favourite ones they have their own ' Bat ' or may be they suites him more 😃😃 ... Ur analysis in ' What the reason and y ' paragraph is amazing and perfect as ja soliloquy which we expected to see in the show... The wall pinning scene curtain tearing all had increased the voltage of drama perfectly ...about jo's emos not ever thought like that bt now have to admit it ...
Yup...there was only maham who can see what in ja ' s mind ... A far vision lady bt ruk to ruk hai iski samajh me kuch ni anewala ... I wonder that in serial y everybody say she rules on ja's mind ...even i think not she the one who rules on his mind bt ja let her think soo...

Maan scene ...totally agree with u he always managed to give his touch in every scene... And as u say it becomes sone pe suhaaga 😉

And so as Hamam scene was also fab and a drooltonic for our eyes 😆😆

Ur deatailed analysis of each and every scene is fantastic and Very highclass... Loved it 👏
