If you go through the Padmavat, by Malik Muhammad Jayasi , then there is a description , of Jauher in that... You wil understand. That is a poem , heart wrenching...

I don't know if I can read the poem, the descriptions themselves of Jauhar and sati were so painful. How much the women and children too must have suffered when they were burned alive! And they could not even cry - they were supposed to welcome it as an honor 😲

In some war, I forgot now, there wasn't enough wood to burn the women. So their throats were slit.

How much the hindu rulers dreaded their women falling in muslim rulers' hands! In such an environment, the marriage of Akbar and Jodha is really an amazing story. And to top it, it wasn't just a compromise wedding, but turned into an epic love story that we still recount with wonder. 👏

Jalal is not a good painter and the painting he made of Jodha ended up looking more like Atifa - sheer coincidence - that's how the CVs would explain it. 😆

The CVs could have gone in any way. They could have made Atifa the girl who was chosen to sing in Akbar's court (Benazir?). They could have made her the lady whom he got divorced from her husband and married himself.

I think you were inclined more towards the latter one. 😉 That would have also helped the CVs in introducing yet another assassination attempt on Jalal. But audiences didn't like Jalal marrying another woman after declaring love to Jodha. This 21st century audience won't even let a man enjoy himself - Akbar must be so glad he was born then and not now.

I think EK is already having nightmares thinking how to introduce his other (political) marriages now. 😆

Expectations and assumptions have no place in a relationship. Everything has to be declared explicitly. It is wrong to hide something from a spouse/partner and expect/assume the spouse/partner will trust you till you are comfortable enough to reveal the secret.

Next day, the men rode out to carry on Saka..

This poem is about the beautiful Rani Padmini of Mewar / Chittor, who did Jauher...Recently, a TV show was also made on this..TITLED - " Chittor ki Rani Padmini Ka Jauhar ". It had to be closed due to some reasons like falling TRP's and bad health of the director/producer(?)..The shooting of that Show took place in the same place as the movie Jodha-Akbar.!!.It was supposed to be a grand SHOW..

That was the war of Rajputs of Jaisalmer under Maharaja Jait Singh against the Khilji Ruler, Ala-ud-din Khilji of Delhi Sultanate...There also, first the Jauher took place, later Saka...EXACT reasons are not known, but from what i have read, the reasons of "slitting" were >> Less availability of time, to collect woods for performing FULL-fledged Jauher of ALL the ladies...Hence, the ladies preferred this route..😕

Thanks, Abhay for the lovely answers. :) But the very thought of how those women chose to burn to death rather than be taken by the enemy sends shivers down my spine. Why was death by fire the preferred method? Why not poison or stabbing (like harakiri) or hanging or something like that?

In JA, we saw that Jodha advocated Johar while Ruq advocated dying by poison during the war. 😕
