When any Rajput army loses a battle against an invader, or, it becomes clear that it will lose the war, then, first, the ladies commit Jauhar at night.
Then, the next morning, after taking bath, the warriors wear kesariya (saffron) and apply the ash from the pyres of their wives and children on their foreheads and place a Tulsi leaf in their mouth. Then the palace gates are opened and the warriors ride out to kill as many of the enemy as possible or die themselves. Rajput men and women never allowed themselves to be captured alive. This fight until death of warriors is called Saka.
This custom was widely practiced. For example, when Akbar attacked Chittor.
Coming back to the show, we saw that Jodha exhorts the women to kill or die. We can therefore safely conclude that Jodha chose Saka over Jauhar. 😊
