Hi Cleo,

Back as promised 😊

Found out about Saka and you were quite right about it. But for the benefit of those who may be unaware of this custom (like me), here's an explanation:

Saka

This is a very pious Rajput custom.

When any Rajput army loses a battle against an invader, or, it becomes clear that it will lose the war, then, first, the ladies commit Jauhar at night.

Then, the next morning, after taking bath, the warriors wear kesariya (saffron) and apply the ash from the pyres of their wives and children on their foreheads and place a Tulsi leaf in their mouth. Then the palace gates are opened and the warriors ride out to kill as many of the enemy as possible or die themselves. Rajput men and women never allowed themselves to be captured alive. This fight until death of warriors is called Saka.

This custom was widely practiced. For example, when Akbar attacked Chittor.

Coming back to the show, we saw that Jodha exhorts the women to kill or die. We can therefore safely conclude that Jodha chose Saka over Jauhar. 😊

Brilliant post my dear Radhika!🤗🤗

You yourself had said once! There is a huge difference between dramatization and fictionalisation!😃 Dramatizing things makes the show more intresting!
It was a treat to watch Jodha in fiery mode! I was well aware of the fact that Akbar was a great warrior and a perfect emoporer, but i was unaware of MUZ and her qualities untill i watched this show!
Thanks to CV's for showing us in detail the qualities of MUZ! Now i respect her equally as Akbar!😳 No doubt she was an amazing lady!👏 She must have been totally unique to sustain in mughul sultanate and gain her own identity, that too hailing from an entirely different culture!👏
You have logically defended all your arguements! 😊And i agree with each and every word!😊
Hugs again for making this post!🤗🤗

Rak,

Thank you 🤗

Yes, MUZ was an amazing lady. She was not only the queen mother of Hindustan but also a powerful figure in the court who could issue farmans and was in charge of a cavalry unit, next only to that of the king in size, and she was also the first woman entrepreneur in India to conduct business overseas.

You can see she was way ahead of everyone else in her time and was at par with Akbar himself.

Have you read Abhay's thread on the MUZ? Here is the link. (Though it is closed now, still you can read. 😊)

Beautiful post.
I loved reading it.

The part which i still remember in that Episode was - When Jalal calls Jodha ''A SUFI'' . I was remembered that, later he will bestow her with the title of - ''Wali Ni'maat'' - meaning God's Blessing.

No doubt. This dialogue was so apt. Still remember this. I wish the dialogues are written keeping in mind such 'aspects' .

PS --
1. Reading a book on Sufism.
2. Awesome explanation above, about Saka.. :)
