And there has been a change in the climate over the past 2 decades. The population has become more radicalized, that is why all the examples you gave are from way back in time. I would like to know some recent examples.

Regarding Pakistani shows on the new ZEE channel, a TVM of 300 can hardly be called earth shattering. The sad thing is that Indian audiences have not yet shed their prejudices or developed the taste for high quality drama.

donjas, i am from the old lot, i hardly watch any movies these days do they make any good ones except a few? as for daily soaps i honestly fail to understand how people can sit through same old cliched sbs style shows day in and day out, my mother in law used to even watch the repeats just because she was too lazy to change the channel..agar star plus laga hai to wo hi sahi..the whole day i used to hear same noises of some bahus screaming or dramatizing the situation and my mom in law was sleeping most of the times while the show was running😆..now this could be one of the reasons of high trps that they act as a lullaby for older ladies that contribute maximum to the trp janta!

@ Donjas. i agree with mandy ...love stories always work ..given the right treatment and mass appeal...besides the curious factor about history blended in drama and NR..is perfect recipe for trps...and if you do not drag it ..it holds interest and you can end it on a high ...

Sunny, I think Donjas has a point. Howmuchever we would like to uphold our vanity of being secular, this story sells not because of quality, but because of the Hindu protagonist. This is the reason why we keep having chants of 'Hum Rajvanshi hain, and the glorifying of the Ameris beyond limits. No doubt they were loyals, were appreciated and restected by Akbar, but the serial shows them as the be all and end all of Akbar's existence and fame. This is also the precise reason why Akbar is shown weak and dumb, because it gives us immense satisfaction that all Akbar's glory, fame and goodness were a result of our own princess.

This happens in all societies and then they evolve. Just a decade back the portrayal of African Americans in US TV, though not openly racist, was shown in such a manner as to make it clear that the character was different. There was stereotype at play, from the talk to the walk. Even in day to day interaction, the African American character was shown doing it in style that was so obvious that, if for one moment we close our eyes, we could distinguish which character was black and which was white.

The change from then to now on US and British TV is remarkable. A similar change will occur in the mind sets of Indian viewers as they become more sophisticated and open.

Good discussions, I feel JA is hit of marriage into different communities with a ruthless king and headstrong princess who hate him.. It's a hate story turned into love..

But if we see Salim-Anarkali, they is no hate love story, Salim fall for anarkali and later she also accepted his love.. I don't know if audience accept the other love stories...

JA got famous as it showed how JOdha transformed a Jallad into a kind king with hindu muslim back drop..That's why we see more of Rajvanshi & more of hindu culture..

Abhi, i think Ekta won't show the salim-anarkali love story which we r familiar with..look,her JA is very much different from JA film..she wil give salim-anarkali story a new dimension..like salim madly in love with Anarkali..and she is not interested in begining..dey fight each other in the begining, den fall in love with each other....she wil create a totally new salim-Anarkali story..😉

Regaring Pakistani serials first of all they are being showed on Zee zindagi which is a new channel plus they are still not promoted the way Inddian serials are...Inspite of that they are getting good response...Give them time...

It is a fact that radicalism rose in India due to various factors ...but then why are we failing to notice that things are changing now albaiet in a small way...There are more muslim serials in an year or two then in the last decade...Peaceful atmosphere in country has started changing minds of people...and such changes take time...but this is sign of acceptance ...

Regarding use of Rajwanshi word I feel Mughal word is used just as much...

The premises are interesting, no doubt, but the Hindu feel is more though the backdrop is Mughal Agra. And Jalal was kind even before Jodha came into his life though rakish. The first 80 episodes were classic..they had a right blend of a strong Jalal who supressed his dil, an equally strong Jodha who made him realise inadvertently where he erred, a proper mixture of both the cultural backgrounds, but then later on everything turned pro our culture. See, we had 2 holis, 2 ghangours, Shivratri, lots and lots of bhajans, tulsi poojas, but not a single eid. Even Akbar praying that was shown a lot earlier is not shown these days. The show is simply catering to the larger audiences.

Sandhya on some level I agree with you that they have shown not a single muslim festival and they are catering to lager audiances but give them time...

Of course. Not that I am any culture-partial. But I believe that idli/dosas go well with sambhars, rotis with panneer masala and chowmien with sauce. When something is forced in a screenplay, it tastes like Chowmein with sambhar and the flavour is lost. I can feel proud of all this if this is the Story of MRP or Jhansi Rani, but in the story of Akbar, when there is hardly any Mughal feel, except Urdu, it does jar a bit. If the earlier proportions were maintained, then the serial would be yumm yumm.😆 Anyway let us wait and see.
