Abhay, Lizzy and KDR, Firstly a big hats off to you all for researching extensively on this topic!👏👍🏼 It is really not easy juggling your studies and all this! Really commendable! I salute you guys!
To be honest, I had no idea that you were planning to write this thread. I came to know only when you sent the PM, so thanks a lot!😳
Your thread put a smile on my face on such a dull Sunday!😃 It took me nearly an hour to read all the posts! I was amazed to read how much time MUZ and Akbar spent together!😳 She even went with him during wars, when she was heavily pregnant!
The best part was that he had most of his children with her!😳 But I am sure that they must have been really saddened and broken at the death of their first few children😭 Sikri was a very blessed and holy place, that is why they both must have stayed there during her pregnancy!😃 And it was really great of Akbar to stay with her during the duration of the pregnancy, in spite of him having political and administrative matters to attend to!😳
Totally loved this part!
Info:
After the passing away of these two twins, Akbar and MUZ went to Sheikh Salim Chisti Baba's Dargah. It was the first time that MUZ was with Akbar, while Akbar was in a war. After the conclusion of the war, while returning, Akbar and MUZ went to the Dargah in Sikri.
MUZ DID go with Akbar, while the latter was on wars. Even wars could NOT separate them..😉
He arrived there after 26 March,1569.
Abu'l Fazl, explains -> " When His Majesty alighted at Amber, Raja Bhagwant Das, whose native town it was, came forward with sincerity and arranged a "feast {jashan}😆". He also tendered noble gifts."
Akbar was royally welcomed in the kingdom of Amber. Finally, Akbar reached agra on 11 May 1569. It is not clear, who all were present with Akbar😉 on this trip. Trying to find this out. 😃
BTW, Did anyone notice, how much time he spent in Amber.?.😆😉
>> Another documented incidence, when Akbar visited Amber with many other courtiers, was for the marriage of Salim with Man Bai, daughter of Raja Bhagwan Das, in 1585. This marriage at Amber, 'ALSO' took place in Hindu traditions.
This was the FIRST time, Akbar (or any other Mughal Emperor in the history of India) visited the bride's native place for conducting marriage ceremonies of his son. 😊
No doubt, Amber had a "SpeciaL" corner in Akbar's heart. 😉
The fact that he presented her with a 'Naulakha' and performed other Rajputana rituals showed how much he respected her traditions and customs! No doubt that he shared a special bond with Amer! Salim got married there according to Hindu traditions and his father was also there for the ceremony!😳
I totally loved the part where Abul Fazl has described Salim's mother😳!
" At this time the lights of God-knowingness, God-worshipping, and of austerity were conspicuous in Shaikh Salim of the town of Sikri, which has become a capital by the glory of the Shahinshah's advent and is called Fatehpur. By means of Shaikh Muhammad Bokhari and Hakim Ain-al-mulk and a number of other courtiers who had the right of audience, this was brought to the royal hearing, and it was determined that the "matrix of the sun of fortune"{<<<---the translator EXPLICITLY mentions in Akbarnama that, this Honorable statement "matrix of sun of fortune" is used by Abu'l Fazl to describe the mother of Salim. 😉 }
Abu'l Fazl writes beautifully,
Verse
The flower of joy{Salim} bloomed in{womb of his mother} the glorious garden{Salim's mother}
Fruit appeared on the plant of realm and religion
It is a really respectable and beautiful way of describing someone! It shows that she held a respectable position not only in Akbar's life but the court as well!😳
Each and every thing about the rest of the children was written with utmost respect and dignity. What struck me the most in this respect was about Daniyal's alcohol addiction and his subsequent death due to it:
His love for alcohol destroyed him..He was posted to the Deccan in 1601..It is in Deccan that he became addicted to alcohol.😕 He was asked to return to Agra on Akbar's orders. This was to eradicate his addiction. He promised Akbar that he would not touch alcohol but in 1604 when he was returning, he saw nomads with alcohol and couldn't control himself. He asked Murshid Quli Khan, a muskeeter so poured the alcohol in to the barrel of his gun. The drank the poisoned mixture, which became so due to the mixing of rust with and gunpowder with alcohol and he died drinking it.
Akbar was " BROKEN beyond repair " at his death. 😕
I also liked this part a lot!
Shakr-un-Nissa Begum - Her name means - As sweet as sugar Or the one who sprinkles sugar.
That is a very nice name for a daughter!😳
Firoze Khannum - Born to Mariam-Uz-Zamani Begum Sahiba in 1575.
She was an accomplished warrior in her "own right", was HIGHLY interested in statecraft and warfare, helped her mother command her forces, and controlled the forces in the absence of her mother. The interested fact about her is that, She did NOT miss targets even while shooting with a GUN.😉
She was EXTREMELY beautiful. She was more Rajput in looks than Persian. She remained a spinster. There were talks of her engagement with a ruler of Badakshan(this talk about her engagement is NOT confirmed, though).
It is really cool to know that a woman had such a good target! And that too with a gun in a time where it was rare for women to use one! 😳 Also, liked the fact that she was involved with her mother in commanding forces as well!😳
Aram Banu Begum - Born to Mariam-Uz-Zamani Begum Sahiba on December 22, 1584.
Lived through the reign of Jahangir. Died a spinster.
She was the FAVORITE, and youngest/last child of Akbar, born at age of 42. Akbar was fond of her mis-chiefs.😆 It was she, who inherited MUZ's nature of High Self-Esteem and reasoning capability, but was 'even' MORE outspoken than her mother, 😉 had her 'pert' opinions on 'every' matter, was Akbar's darling child. She was ALSO EXTREMELY beautiful. Due to her colorful/saucy/naughty nature and flightiness, she was also called - "Butterfly of Harem". She is said to be an intelligent lady, and was a Poet, too.
Akbar used to call her -> "Ladli", i.e., Darling. She was also called "Ladli Begum".😉
She was his most beloved daughter, probably due to her similarity with MUZ😉
But one thing was for sure, like any other father, Akbar was surely close to his daughters and loved them a lot!😳 He would have probably spoilt them a lot! Great to see and know about the other children as well since the only child we were sure MUZ and Akbar had together was Salim😳
Also, loved all the titles given to MUZ!😳
Another thing I fail to understand is why are there two completely contradictory versions of the Jahangirnama

. Were they trying to present Mughals in a bad light? Or was it just done carelessly?

It remains a big mystery!
The author mentions that Favorite Sultana/Wife of Akbar gave birth to Prince Salim.
So, even before giving birth to Salim "also", she was his favorite.?.
This statement proves that she was indeed his favourite wife even before she gave birth to Salim!😳 And so does this, I bet people staying in this part of India are not fools making up stories
And, since the last 450 years, we have the tale of Akbar and his Hindu Wife in the ENTIRE Golden Triangle region of India. Those who live here, know about them, before the MOVIE and before this SERIAL. 😊
Another statement in which Abul Fazl has given a beautiful description for MUZ
Abu'l Fazl has addressed Mariam-Uz-Zamani Begum.
But here, mentioning one more instance from Akbarnama where Abu'l Fazl, has described the Princess of Amer, the Eldest Daughter of Raja Bharmal, in VERY BEAUTIFUL words as -->
"His eldest daughter, in whose forehead shone the lights of chastity and intellect, among the attendants on the glorious pavilion."
And you ended the post so beautifully as well!😳
Despite the presence of any number of wives, they had something Unique between them. ❤️
That's why they are still remembered, [ Esp. the Golden Triangle Region - Jaipur, Agra, Delhi .!!. ], no matter how much records are tampered and destroyed.
The posts above are an articulation of the same fact.
RIP: Akbar - MUZ.
Thanks a lot once again for giving such a beautiful and informative thread! All you guys research has enlightened me so much! And it is so beautiful to know about these two so different individuals who came together and broke all barriers of religion and tradition. May their love be remembered and cherished by more generations to come!
Regards,
Samanika
