Hello. I'll write what I know about this as I am a Muslim. A Muslim man can have upto 4 wives at a time, only if he has permission from his previous wife and if he can keep all of his wives equal. For example, when the prophet (saw) was married to Khadija (as) he could not marry another because he could not equally divide his love. After she passed away he married more than once, to help widows and what not, because he was able to divide his attention equally among them. This is so there is fairness for the wives. If a man can't equally support his wives then he should keep one or possibly none.

I hope this clarifies.

Hi 😊

I never posted/commented in this forum before , but I'm a regular stalker of this forum 😆 & a regular viewer of Jodha Akbar . But as I donno anyone in this forum never felt to comment anywhere . I just stalk all ur posts & njoy ur discussions 😛

But in this post I thought to comment , seeing no one is actually getting to the exact point .

Though polygamy was practiced in all religions (not only muslims , but by hindu & other religions too) in earlier days in India , but NOW , under Hindu marriage law , polygamy is forbidden for Hindu , Jains , Buddhists & Shikhs . Bigamy/Polygamy is a PUNISHABLE OFFENSE under Indian Penal Code for people persuing the above mentioned religion .

However , in Muslims , the picture is a little different , but only little , not too much . Though as per religious view Muslim men are allowed to have maximum of 4 wives at a time , recent developmemts in Indian laws does NOT allow this . A man , even though muslim , can marry 2nd time while his first spouse is still alive/undivorced from him only under few special circumstances . And the few "special circumstances" includes situations like illness of first wife , or her inability to bear children . In these cases WITH THE FIRST WIFE'S CONSENT the man can marry again . Otherwise its a crime for Muslim men too .

yes it does! there is a group or rather a cult in US that lives separately, follows old ways of living, more earth friendly and practice polygamy.

Umm I come from a country in which majority of the people are Muslims.

Here a married man can't get married again WITHOUT his first wife's CONSENT.

If anyone does it, that is considered a crime.

Edit: Polygamy is hardly practiced in this era except few places I suppose.

But in many rural areas where women are not that conscious or educated, polygamy is being practiced and that's a sad truth.

yeah if the husband and wife are divorced then the woman has to marry another guys and live few months with him and then take divorce and can remarry her first husband !

And secondly ... Men can marry home many women they want but at a time they can keep 4 wives only and if 4 of them dies then he can marry another 4 ..
and thirdly and lastly .. this culture is not at all so much given importance now ! And we the muslim girls are not mentally prepared .. yaar sab ke saath aisa nahe hota ...
i asked my mother about it and she said if the man want to keep more than 4 wives at a time so he must fulfill all their needs then ..
but in Pakistan it has become very less or jab hota ha often in cases if the woman cannot get pregnant or have some abnormality in her because of which she can never be a mother !I've never seen any case like this .. even in our whole family everyone has 1 wife !😆
and haan if the man want to do second marriage he has to take permission from his first time then or else it will be considered a crime
p.s. i hate polygamy , how can a wife share her husband
