My My ...And I would've almost missed out this revelation!
Very impressive (Read superlative), Shyamala!
Seeing the language, style and a definite opinion in your posts, not too surprising though.
Very nice...
You look absolutely lovely and graceful in the traditional yellow kanjeevaram with temple Gopuram border.

Thank you so very much, my dear Anu.

I too love that particular saree. I spent all my 38 years in the IFS as a sort walking talking ad for Indian textiles! As for my career, I have been a happy gypsy, moving across the world every 3 years, but that sort of life is not for everyone. Some people like stability.

Well, I see that Gen X/Y/Z too has a nice taste in textiles. Good.

I too love that manjal-karuppu (it is a double colour) saree; it is one of my favourites. As I wrote to Anu above, I made it a point to spend all the 38 years of my diplomatic career as a sort of ambulant and articulate ad for Indian textiles. Fellow diplomats and their wives used to spend a good bit of time fingering the soft silk!

As for Vyjayanthi Akka, as I call her (she stayed with us in Washington in 1996, with her son Suchi, after I had helped unblock the visas for her and her team; I was then the Deputy Chief of Mission at our Embassy), shhh.. She would not like any such comparisons! For one thing they are not valid, for she is a real classic beauty, and for another, a screen diva likes to hear only about herself!😉

But valid or not, Lashy darling, I am truly flattered! Those are the great beauties.

With reference to Sandhya's plaintive lament about the lost Jalal ,

Jalal's icy fury is already melting after seeing Jodha in the angoor garden.. No hopes of ever seeing a sher shahenshah again. This guy is a becchara, ishq ka maara, akal, guroor, wajood sab kuch haara!!!😭😭😭

I must note that I am not so pessimistic, unless of course, as I wrote to Lashy in a black humour, the KT turns out to be an assassin, Jodha saves Jalal's life, and he ends up prostrate at her feet in gratitude. Ugh..

Who, she mournfully informs Salima, kabhi itna sammaan karte hain ki saha nahin jaata (liar! you lap it up and then, like Oliver Twist, ask for more, but then you give him nothing in return, do you?), kabhi itna apamaan karte hain ki raha nahin jaata.

Shyamala (Aunty)

@blue I wouldn't mind such a development actually. Atleast our Jodha Begum would have done something worth the gratitude and appreciation that is usually showered upon her without having done anything at all
The more ugh... scenario would be when Salima, Ruqaiya or someone else finds the truth behind the MU (without Jodha-Begum lifting a little finger), clears it up, and Jalal feels such remorse that he feels miserable thinking about the pain she would have felt, when she shoved him on the ground, ,stands besides the scales and declares 'har baar aurat hi kyun aasoo bahaye aur gham sahe? Chaahe who kisi aur ki wajah se ho ya Jalalludin ki wajah se' and Jodha looks at him with tear-filled eyes like a just-saved damsel-in-distress as though his repentance was nothing but her due.🤢
If it happens, it wouldn't be surprising even if Jalal gives the the centre seat in the court to Jodha Begum, the left side of which is, as of now considered to be exclusive, indisputable Jodha Begum property.
@pink🤣🤣
P.S:I agree to Lashy's comparison of you to Vyjayanthimala. Your style, super-cool confidence and assured poise does remind us of your Vyjayanthi akka. Glad that you share your thoughts with us ma'am.

You guys are hilarious I was in splits. OMG you reminded of that old dialogue of Jalal where he talked about why a woman is only made to sacrifice all the time, I never laughed so hard at Jalal apparent naivety, so called Akbar the great was talking like the guy next door. I sometimes wonder do the writers intend comedy if they do please add disclaimer to the start along with that long apparent useless one.

I am telling you guys Jalal should never find the truth about the letter. That is the worst that can happen miss highty mighty will take him for a ride and he will lap it up. The best that can happen Jalal forgives her thinking she did wrong because he is the bigger man, and Jodha realizes she should not take her husband for granted and whatever is happening to her is because of that night not benazir. Letter or no letter how she acted afterwards was horrible, when you know you hurt someone is that how u apologize. MA did us a huge favor by giving Jalal the upper hand again, Jodha needed to catch up in her feelings so by putting the speed breaks on Jalal she has given this relationship a chance. But the writers still need to flesh out the hurt more in Jodha, right now she is leaning more towards an whinny child who lost a favourite toy, that does not endear me to the depth of what she genuinely feels. I don't care if she doesn't love him, but whatever it is must be genuine so the audience can connect with it.

I agree with the last COMPLETELY!
And I am of the same opinion too. While today I saw Jodha's hurt & anger, I couldn't connect with it. It was most annoying & irritating.

I was smugly satisfied seeing her 'descend' to Jealousy but it didn't connect.

She reminded me more of Lavina's Ruqaiyya than I would've liked. 😆

Thank you, Tripti darling! I never look a gift horse in the mouth, so that lavish compliment is accepted with becoming gratitude!

You know, even if I had been really gorgeous, I would never have made a diva. I am too prone to laughing at myself, whereas they always want to be told that they look exactly as they did 40 years ago! I used to tell Vyjayanthimala that she looked exactly the same as in Madhumati (1958, and I was telling her this in 1996, so 38 years), and she loved it.

When I was First Secretary in our Washington Embassy in 1980, I was going to New York to cover the Democratic Convention for that presidential campaign. I spotted Elizabeth Taylor at La Guardia airport - she was then Elizabeth Taylor Warner, being at that time married to Republican Senator John Warner from Virginia. She looked quite aloof and I was not very sure how she would react to being approached. Still, I gathered up my courage, marched up to her and said I just wanted to tell you, Miss Taylor, that you look exactly the same as you did in Cleopatra! Bingo, she smiled, and I got her autograph as well! That was only a 20 year gap, but the principle is the same!😉

She was quite lovely, and her eyes are, or rather were, really violet. Those were the classic icons: Elizabeth Taylor, Hedy Lamarr, Ingrid Bergman, and in a different, smoky style, Lauren Bacall. There is no one like that these days.

😊 I adore your charming anecdotes! They make me think that you should've lived in a different era.

Yes, Taylor was definitely one of the most stunning & beautiful women EVER. They don't make women like her, or Maharani Gayatri Devi, any more!!!! ❤️

All the Deepikas, Madhuris & Aishwariyas fall FLAT on their faces when they're present in front of such Beauty, Grace & Elegance with a dry wit that can crack you up every single time!!

A well-dressed, inherently elegant & intelligent lady beats a BEAUTIFUL face every time!!

My dear, I find myself agreeing with you so often that it is becoming monotonous!

Sandhya, please do not raise such a horrible prospect. If that happens, I will quit, for I cannot waste my non-renewable hours in my sunset years commenting on Mills and Boon tripe!
