Sandhya and Ariel you two bring up a valid point. I am confused at when was she officially declared a khaas begum to sit in court. I mean during the tasneem case Jalal never stated that this count of three is official it was more that he wanted to hear their opinions on this matter because they each had a vested interest. Ruq is still begum-e-khaas official none of other begums have been officially declared khaas. And was it just my imagination did Jodha looked a bit put off when Ruq was called first. Hmmm this one assumes too much. I concur with your analysis of Jodha in the movie she was a lovely character, imagine a character like that against our fiery Jalal (Akbar in the movie was too goody goody) now that would have been epic.

Wish there was a 'like very much' button too.Agree with you word to word, thought to thought on everything above, especially the ones in pink. The Jodha Begum, as portrayed in the the serial, is one big bundle of vanity, self-righteousness, impertinence, insolence and smugness that any man, (let alone an emperor who has the world under his feet) would like to stay as far away as possible. Ever since the Meena Bazaar and especially after the tiger attack, I've never been able to relate with her character. You can admire flawed characters in fiction and screen, but not if they are proud of their shortcomings or if they are glorified for their flaws too. You can relate to Scarlett O'Hara with all her imperfections and limitations that detour to the domains of what by normal standards is beneath morality norms. But not this Jodha Begum. And what was there to reform in Jalal? Even before he married this piece of perfection(!), he was fair minded, he respected loyalty, was forgiving to the king who saved his father, was people loving and reprimanded AK in Malwa. After his Khan Baba was out of the picture, nothing remained to reform much. All that was needed was some fine-tuning and how was that possible with this Jodha Begum who is so much out of tune herself.I too have never been able to understand why Jalal is so smitten by her and why he tolerates all her offensive behaviour as though he had sinned her to such an extent that he had to feel such remorse to sleep in peace. What has she done do reach the high perch that she has been placed in, except speak, cry, speak, lecture to Jalal, speak, grina Jalal, speak, pray to her Kanhaa, speak, misunderstand Jalal, speak, insult Jalal, speak and speak?I had written on the other thread that if Jodha saw only lust in Jalal's eyes on the night he confessed his feelings to her, she needs an optician and a psychiatrist. Just the same, if Jalal can see only goodness and hunars and virtues and nobility in Jodha always (even when she is volleying insults at him), he also needs consultation with the aforesaid specialists. And the recent tracks, lesser said the better. Like the ratri vyatit vachan that everyone eventually accepted to be the absolute truth, now the place to Jalal's left in the court is also acknowledged by one and all as Jodha's undisputable right. While every one in Agra is so sensitive to Jodha's rights and Jodha's feelings why does no-one give a thought about Jalal's rights and Jalal's feelings(including himself)?Anyway, all the tracks and all the characters are getting crankier day by day. The only reasons I continue watching the show is that I admire Rajat's performance very much and am hooked to Shyamala Aunty's posts, that are a pleasure to read.
You spend 3 hours to type and edit? Hats off Aunty! That is unbelievable!

Yes, of course, Sneha, I am not a fast typist. As an Ambassador, I had 2 private secretaries and a social secretary, and in any case, till I retired, I had never typed anything except short personal e-mails. My posts are all over 3 pages, and typing that takes me quite a while and also strains my left wrist, which is wonky. See what all I do for you kids!😉
Shyamala Aunty
Why she assumes that the place next to him is hers is as mysterious as the vachan😆Wouldnt a more humble person like Salima hesitate to claim that spot as hers? All fake humility I tell you

The woman would not move away even after KT (khaas tohfa) was actually carried out of the water by Jalal (he needs a small medal for having managed that, as KT is no petite damsel. I hope there are no repeats of the carrying bit; Rajat is a strong boy, but there is only so much a back can stand!), and he was yelling at her daasis for a shawl and hot water, and hectoring her to come and chafe KT's other hand. I could not believe my ears when he was ordering her to make herself useful!
In fact,in a Pavlovian reflex, she moved automatically towards them when he barked at her to come: Aise kyon khadi hain? Hamari madad keejiye aur unka doosra haath maliye ! Aayiye! I was waiting to see if she was going to wrench KT's wrist while pretending to rub it when the (too hot) water arrived.
He subsequent wailings to Moti were very amusing, especially the catty references to the KT's assumed perfidy in creating dooriyan between herself and the person she would like to preserve in perpetuity as a friend without benefits, the Shahenshah. It is interesting that she adopts the classic ploy of blaming the KT, not Jalal.
Who, she mournfully informs Salima, kabhi itna sammaan karte hain ki saha nahin jaata (liar! you lap it up and then, like Oliver Twist, ask for more, but then you give him nothing in return, do you?), kabhi itna apamaan karte hain ki raha nahin jaata.
Scrumptious stuff, especially Jodha's carping in the precap about the Kohinoor designation for the KT. The curious thing is that, as legend has it, the Kohinoor was supposed to have been very unlucky for its possessors - among them Ibrahim Lodi, Humayun, and Sher Shah Suri - and so Akbar never took it out of the toshakhana. Shahjahan did, and look what happened to him!
I must also note, with some disappointment, that the KT is not delivering as I had hoped she would. She seems to have a uni-expression contact face - no matter what emotion she is supposed to be projecting, her face looks exactly the same, with that exaggerated pseudo-Mata Hari pose and tone of voice. At this rate, she will soon become even more monotonous than Mahaam and her wolfish grin.
Shyamala (Aunty)
