Well, I was a professional Indian Foreign Service officer for 38 years from 22 to 60, till I retired recently. For the last 15 of those years I was the Indian Ambassador to 5 countries one after the other, roughly 3 years in one assignment. I started with the Philippines and ended up with Canada.

If you google my full name, you will very likely end up with one of my speeches at the UN or elsewhere, but there is a fairly good photo of mine at http://www.flickr.com/photos/menik/2530924779/ - it is 9 years old but still a decent likeness - and a concise write up about my career as well.

You are very flattering, my dear, but it is just another profession, that is all. I am a nomad at heart, so I had a ball all thru.

As for becoming an engineer, I think that is a very worthwhile, and (literally) constructive profession.

Yes, of course, Sneha, I am not a fast typist. As an Ambassador, I had 2 private secretaries and a social secretary, and in any case, till I retired, I had never typed anything except short personal e-mails. My posts are all over 3 pages, and typing that takes me quite a while and also strains my left wrist, which is wonky. See what all I do for you kids!😉

I could not agree with you more.

As for @blue, the oddest thing was Hamida nodding her head in approval of her darling bahu's solo gift. With such a mother, what can Jalal expect from this wife of his? Only Mahaam .looked outraged.

She keeps harping on about how she got insulted at the darbar, well her fault she stood up. If not then the insult would have been on all the other begums including Salima, but she got highlighted for this special insult because she got too big for her boots. Jalal face was contorted in some fury when he saw her stand up, I couldn't help but chuckle, he must have been thinking she is got some nerve.

I thought it would have been more hilarious if he told her to sit her ass back down and he didn't call her sheeesh. As far as kicking her out of his court, well there is where the king rules, he was thinking of how she threw him on the floor and her room, so he throws her on the floor and out of his domain.

Shyamala I also didn't understand Jodha barging out of the purdah isn't that against the law. Ruq did it during adaham interrogation but that was highly tense emotional setting. Infact hasn't HB not warned Jodha once before to not speak until asked to. HB being the queen mother is probably the only one who can over rule this accepted conduct because of her position in the harem and when she does so she apologizes. Why can't they show realism in the court conduct, the whole thing was ridiculous. How distasteful for her to hand a gift when her king/husband has just been talked back to. That whole scene was shocking and I couldn't believe Jalal didn't warn Jodha.

Yes Salima is a saint see we can admire a saint one who is truly deserving.

Why she assumes that the place next to him is hers is as mysterious as the vachan😆

Wouldnt a more humble person like Salima hesitate to claim that spot as hers? All fake humility I tell you

My dear Komal,

Where was the need for a PM about that article? It is me, of course, and it was about the time I spoke at a Madras Management Association seminar in 2004.

Folks, this article has a nice picture of me that Komal has dug up, so do look it up at

http://www.hindu.com/mp/2004/03/10/stories/2004031000460100.htm

I was sitting outside the conference venue laughing at the photographer, and it has come out well, if I say so myself!
