Jalal is 20.. Adham is 21.. the girl is 14. Not that much of an age gap.

The rule was basically for people in their 40s and 30s marrying 13 year olds.. that was more common in that era..

Aren't there love marriages with the guy who is 8-10 years older.. Arranged marriages are also common. But the difference lies in the fact that she is a minor in today's time.. and a child.

I'd still think it wasn't the case...unless its been documented in akbarnaama...🤔 14 seems too old a cut-off age for 16th c ela 😆

On a more serious note - that's the reason behind the whole 'kanya-daan' btw
kanya = a girl who hasn't attained puberty...so when her parents gave her away, it was called kanyaa-daan
some wedding customs in south still require the bride to sit on her father's lap etc...since in those days it'd have been littler girls being wedded off...
its another issue that the dads these days are pretty much squashed by the time the function gets over 😆

Yup that's what I've read too...after adolescence maa-baap preferred sending girls away...😕 and I don't see how Akbar would have banned this since this was happening in his family before, during and after him too...yes, I understand he would have banned very little girls (8-9) getting married to older men...😕
Possibly, someone who's read his books can enlighten us more...

I don't think in that era it was a rule even for people in their 30s & 40s...child marriage is very common in India even today...age difference doesn't matter even today...the only valid point on this track may be the "forced marriage"...even if these were common practices at that time social reforms always happen to vanish such "common practices" & such reforms are resisted by people...don't forget Akbar was a social reformer also...
