"Teri aankhon se namee girti nahiin,
Tere chehre par mere dard se shikan aati nahiin,
Dekhkar mujhe teri zubaan se dua uthti nahiin,
Aur phir jo tu ban jaata hai mera saaya kabhi
Rooh se aawaaz aati hai ke shaayad roshan hotaa hoga tera noor kahiin."
Translation:
"Your eyes have never had tears for me. Your face never gives it away if you felt my pain , my agony. I am sure that am never in your prayers. But then, in that one flash of a moment when you become my shadow and shield me , i think , for a moment. Maybe , just maybe there is light in you and i will see it someday. "
Hmmm... so? Fantastic episode, isn't it? I found it FABULOUS. For its sensitivity, vulnerability , strength , mortal virtues and vices. And above all, for explaining the relationship between human-beings and God so well. Quite pensive and deep, it ran.
If you think about it, today's episode is all about Jodha's new assessment of Jalaal, her confusion between various Jalals and her inability to pinpoint who Jalaal really is. And of course, the tying narrative with Akbar and Mariam Uz Zamaani's souls only strengthened that.
Jalaal was a revelation to Jodha today and a puzzling labyrinth-like confusion as well. Here's how...
1. Revelation Jalaal.
It takes a few seconds for Jodha to understand that Jalaal didn't tear through her curtains to demand Saleem. He had just saved her life from a poisonous serpent. Jalaal royally insults Jodha in a very spicy and light-hearted manner and voila! The nakchadhi sarphiri badtameez beghum Jodha is AMUSED! She is forced to smile even though Jalaal calls her poisonous , frigid and more dangerous than the serpent. She is apologetic , embarrassed and awkward as she thanks Jalaal for saving her life. Jalaal , who has stopped getting angry on his paglee Rajputani laughs it all off . He tells her to go to sleep because she can no longer spew any more venom on that poor 'Mohini' as the forum calls it. Jodha, not bothered that Jalaal had just used some ASHOBHANIYA words for her , forgets her anger and smiles - infact , smiles and almost chuckles when Jalaal says you are allowed to laugh...Jodha is vintage Jodha of Amer here because she was off guard, had not rehearsed her ghrinaa songs ... so when faced with Jalaal on the right side, the girl was all smiles, a wee bit blushing and curiosity that just how does Jalaal always know what she is thinking. This is how NORMAL Jodha would be around Jalaal when her paagalpan and ghrinaa obsession is gone. Jalaal smiled too. He really likes this Jodha.
Bigger revelation was what Jodha saw of Jalaal enroute to the Holy Shrine and at the Shrine. Her pre-conceived notion about Jalaal being AMAANAVIYA again raising head when Jalaal stops her from donating her jewels , is quickly erased by Jalaal's justification and his donation of all his kingly jewels and his crown pagdee. She listens to his words and you can see a chapter turning on her face.
When Jodha sees Jalaal's faith , love and submission to God/Allah/Bhagwaan ( kucch bhi bulaa lo, aawaaz to ek hi darwaaze par jaati hai) at the shrine , she is a little confused, a wee bit impressed and really touched by the face that she sees there.
"Uss din humne ek alag hi insaan jo dekhaa, Shahenshah. Jiske mann mein Bhagwaan ke liye sammaan tha . Jo ye kehta hai ki uske seene mein dil nahiin, humne uss mein dhadhkan mehsoos ki."
When Jalaal tells her that she can pray as per her Hindu customs , when she innocently sees Jalaal making a Dua and follows him like a kid and prays in the same manner, when he gives her 'Prasaad' , actually using that word , when he confesses to her that he has taken so much from her that he prays for the fulfillment of her wish, when he bathes in spiritual light of Khwaaja - Jodha sees and feels a Jalaal who is not the attyaachaari and duraachaari she forcibly thinks him to be... And for a change, she has no silly denial argument to say that all this is not real.
The very revelation that Jalaal is a "Khuda ka banda" touches a chord in Jodha and she never takes her eyes off him during that time. 😳
2. Confusion Jalaal
UFFF! Ye Jalaal bhi na yaar. Ek kaam taras , reham aur sajde ka kartaa hai, aur phir jaake jhutt se bandook aur talwaar uthaa letaa hai. 😡😆 ... Jodha was still in the La La Land of " Ye to maanav bhi hain" Jalaal post the Shrine visit , when WHAMMM! Jalaal is seen practicing hunting with bullets and guns, and looking forward to hunting maasum janawars., Jodha is like - WHAT THE FAALUDA! Yesterday, he was filled with such spiritual beauty and saying so many pretty-pretty things to me aur abb ye kya hai? Hero se villain tak ka deterioration? PHIR SE?... Uff! Double Uff! Triple Uff! 😆... Its clear that for Jalaal, hunting is a sport and he has never thought that animals are not playthings , and in 1500s , kahaan koi ittna sochta tha that killing animals for fun and frolic is actually cruel. Kisi maasoom ko maar denne mein koi shaan ki baat nahiin hai. So, he sounds like an excited child while Jodha is appalled that Jalaal wants to do BAL-PRAYOG on animals! PETA kyun nahiin hai yaar 1500s mein.😆... and here , again you see STARK DIFFERENCE in JJ's upbringing. While Jalaal has been taught that killing anyone - human or animal is not big deal via the law of survival of the fittest, Jodha has been taught to be compassionate. Even though, like Jalaal said, Rajputs were equally known for their hunger games for hunting of maasoom jaanwars.
And after seeing Jalaal as a " Dhadhkan waala manushya", Jodha again wonders why her hubby is such a 'Pashu'.😆
Ek toh Jodha waise hi akal se paidal hai, upar se Jalaal ka multiple personality disorder. Mohabbat hote hote toh ye ladki Jalaal ki deewaangi mein poori A-grade paagal ho jaayegi.😉
Anyway, coming to the episode, the most BEAUTEOUS part was the entire Shrine sequence, The spiritual, healing and deep-running words , Duas and blessings of the Maulvi to JJ, Jodha's open acceptance and knowledge of Dargah Shareef, her raising her hands in Dua just like Jalaal , the foretelling of JJ's future as an eternal couple that centuries will talk about , the forecast of Jodha being the mother of Mughal Sultanate's heir , Jalaal and Jodha giving each-other confused, a tad embarrassed and 'WHAT THE FALOODA' looks during the blessing and forecasts , the pride and softness that Jalaal felt in Jodha when the Maulvis praised Jodha and especially when she prayed to Khwaaja just like Jalaal , the prayer sung by the Raagis ( i don't know what are they called in Islam ) and Jalaal's spiritual trance that really entrapped Jodha ... all this was BEAUTIFUL. Writing , set up, direction, dialogues, acting was PAR EXCELLENCE IMO.
Now, coming to the twist in the tale and a lesson that Jodha and maybe all of us should remember for life.
" Jab bhi Uparwaale se kucch maango, soch samajh kar maangna chaahiye. Kyunki kabhi kabhi jo hum maangte hain, wo humein mil jaata hai. Aur jab wo mil jaata hai, insaan yahee sochtaa hai ki aakhir ussne aisi cheez maangi hi kyun."
We all know that Jodha was honest with Khwaajaji - she feels that she has lost everything because of Jalaal and she wants him to feel the same , dard baraabar jo ho jaayega or so she believes. So, like a bratty kid ( no venom) ,she asks HIM to give her one chance to teach a lesson to Jalaal...
Aur jo maanga , wo mil bhi gayaa... but not without the pain and ordeal that she will be put through , once she sees a bleeding and almost dying Jalaal in front of her because of her own mistake. She took out bullets from the gun so that Jalaal cannot kill any birds and deers... aur kismat ne saamne kya laakar khadaa kiyaa? Gujarat ka tiger!... This is Fate's reprimanding of Jodha for asking for such a kiddish, immature and biased wish at Dargah Shareef. Fine! You want to teach him a lesson? It will be done but its you who will live the terror of it. Every second until he opens his eyes... so, once again, emphasized... NEVER TEST GOD.
I have no complaints from today's episode as it was just superb and so beautifully done. Jalaal had pride, right and understanding almost-affection for Jodha. While Jodha got further embroiled in the puzzle called Jalaal - stunned and drowned by the Jalaal she sees at Dargah Shareef and confused by the Jalaal who can't wait to call for alarm bells on animal welfare.
"Aap ittne vichitra kyun hain, Shahenshah" sums it all.
But... the most deep dialogue came towards the end when Jalaal kiddishly teases Jodha if her competition to defeat is with Ruqqu? And Jodha says that her war , her competition is ONLY with him. Subconsciously, Jalaal assesses what place Jodha can take in his life and somwhere Jodha knows that if she had to set her eyes and aim on Jalaal, who is Ruqqu?
P.S- I loved the tying narrative by the souls of JJ and how they are amused that everyone saw them as soulmates when they wanted to claw out each-other's eyes. BTW, why was Jalaal insistent on taking Jodha alongwith him to the woods to hunt? Aisa bhi kya dhatoora chadhne lagaa hai Shahenshah aapko iss chudail baaghi beghum Jodha ka? 😉
