I can kind of see where you are coming from, especially about the 16th century dignified part. I can see how some of Jodha's behavior is little OTT for 16th century and would fit more in 21st century. but, afterall, it's a show and an ekta show on top of that, so OTT stuff is really not a surprise. but, considering she is a princess and all, they should keep it a little toned down for the most part. she doesn't have to be subservient, but there are other ways of showing you can hold off on your own, in a more subtle and dignified way and not by throwing things when you lose your temper. 😆
I would like it more if she had that understated shrewdness, where she would get the upper hand on jalal by surprise, but alas.. Just my opinion folks. :)

When the hell will television and bollywood understand this? I hated Raanjhana because of this. The movie was like watching a pattern of female abuse thrown back to my face. Disgusting.

though I very much liked dhanush's acting, i didn't like the abusing fact too..and after all these types of serials and movies people wonder why are the rape incidents increasing day by day..:->

In giving a feminist twist to Jodha, the creatives are forgetting that they are also robbing her of the dignity and patience that was characterstic of royals in that era...ESPECIALLY RAJPUT WOMEN!

One of the posters have mentioned about many other historical characters like Rani Laximibai, Razia Sultan etc...but please don't forget that Rajput's were a completely different people...women were and still are very subservient in their community! And to see that a girl, born and brought up in a royal family...well-versed in the etiquette and behavioural requirements of a Princess and a Queen, speaking to her husband...who is the Emperor of India, in this manner is simply beyond belief!

It is one thing for Jodha to stand up for herself...but she actually insults Akbar...puts him down, calls him names and in general behaves like a totally spoilt brat, who has no idea, on what to speak, how to speak and when to speak!

Strenght of character does not mean behaving badly with someone and trying to impose upon them without any rhyme or reason...it simply means holding your own, without losing your sense of self! And Jodha, simply loses her head everytime she comes in front of Akbar!

Ruquaiyya and Salima Begum on the other hand, are so much more believable...

Jodha might have been a teenager...but that didn't matter, because it was very common amongst Rajput Royals for their girls to be married off pretty early (the whole concept of child marriage originiated in Rajasthan and West Bengal in the first place) and hence, technically, they grew up very fast...so Jodha, who must be atleast 20 in the show, should know that behaving like a 5 year old tantrum throwing child would just not be acceptable!

IMO, the creatives are simply killing Jodha's character by showing her with such a vile tounge and such a bad temper...she has no grace...no dignity...no fragility in her...nothing that would define her as a princess! As Shyama says in her post...she behaves nothing less than a roadside fish-woman!

PS: Why Akbar puts up with this kind of nonsense is quite another story! In real life, he would have chopped off her head atleast a dozen times by now!😆If you guys are thinking that by showing Jodha to be so upfront and 'brave' in front of Akbar, the creatives are promoting feminism...I think you are wrong! They are actually making her look spoilt and immature, a woman who cannot show respect to her lawfully wedded husband and who behaves nothing like a Queen would, while showing Akbar to be magnimous and benevolent, who puts up with his wife's temper tantrums and overlooks them like the great King he is!

I just want to say one thing, don't presumes before the episode airs fully..:-)

Guys think of Nur Jahan and how she dominated over Jahangir and took over the decision making from him by manipulations. She was just a generation before Jodha. Moreover Jodha is a Rajput princess and has a very strong sense of pride and dignity. I think they are portraying Akbar as more of a villain here. Historically Akbar does not have that reputation.

Oh, I love Dhanush's acting myself. That was the only reason I went to watch the movie. But I could not tolerate the pattern of abuse that unfolded in the movie. Dhanush was absolutely brilliant though. He is one of the best actors that bollywood has seen in recent times, apart from Nawazuddin Siddiqui. I hate those talent-less star kids who rule over bollywood like it's their paternal right.

I doubt she screamed like a banshee on Shah Jahan, though!😆
I think everyone knows and realizes that women in the 16th century were powerful in their own way and played important roles in the running of political affairs...but the whole question is that whether they behaved in a way that Jodha is shown to behave or not!
If Jodha was shown to be exercising her power in some other way...like Ruquaiyya does, it would have been so much more realistic...but to see that she treats her husband like a toilet paper is simply unconceivable for that time and era!
IMO, Ruqaiyya is the perfect example of a truly strong and dominant woman...look how she exercises her power over Akbar...always with a smile on her face and honey dripping from her tounge...while Jodha, keeps raving and ranting and never gets her way!
So who is the stronger and smarter one here?

Trust me, I am not presuming anything! I haven't even seen the last episode, leave aside seeing the pre-cap, that everyone is talking about!
What I wrote is simply based on what I have seen till now in the show...

She does go OTT but when it comes to Jalal, her reaction is more emotional than rational. The same with Jalal.. he loses his senses when it comes to Jodha 😆

It's just fighting off something which they don't understand. More like some sort of a defense mechanism.

Yup,...understated shrewdness is what is required here...or even a cool aloofness from Akbar!
If only Jodha had simply ignored her husband, when he realizes his mistakes and given him the silent treatment...that, IMO, would have made a much significant and powerful impact, than what was ultimately made!
Dunno why this bra-burning kind of feminism of so glorified...I have always believed that when women finally rule the earth (They will one day!)...it will be through their brains...not brawns! If women also get ahead using physical aggressiveness (vocal, verbal, physical...whatever), how will it make them different from men?
For that reason itself, I find Ruquaiyya to be fasinating...love the way she manipulates Akbar! And for that reason, I admired Nur Jahan too...who made the entire Mughal Empire dance on her fingers, without ever even coming out of Purdah! If that is not true woman-power, don't know what is!

Agree, agree and agree! @bold: especially agree, that's why I love ruquaiyya so much or atleast used to when that old actress was here. In the initial days, she kept up my interest so much! Indian television has yet to come up with or maintain a character like ruquaiyya, that understated shrewdness, she exudes it so much (or atleast used to:P). I don't believe in the whole physical woman power, sure, women can be powerful through physical abilities, but our natural strength lies in our shrewdness and in our brain. We should use that brain power instead of using physical aggressiveness. Especially for a 16th century princess, I would expect more of that brains over brawns thing. It's an ekta show, so I really shouldn't have expected much, seeing as she turned even ruquaiyya so negative. I think she will keep making Jodha have OTT reactions because apparently that's how all indian women react?! which I highly disagree with, but whatever, atleast she should tone it down considering Jodha is a princess and all. and maybe in the future, she will!
