Okay, so this is my first try at writing something, like ever. Shoes, tomatoes, curses, flowers everything welcome. Btw I suck at writing.
And it might seem like another Os or Ff or Ss on JA, and if it does it's totally unitentional. I've read all the stories and some idea might have unknowingly crept in.
Jalal looked at her, playing with the rabbits. It had been months since their marriage. She still hadn't softened towards him but he had. Oh, HOW he had. In between the passionate fights somewhere he had fallen in love with her but she... She still yearned for that Suryabhan.
*Flashback*
Their wedding night had been a disaster. He had expected resistance but he hadn't expected his bride to try and kill him. She had been all ready for him with a dagger in her hand. He had expected fear and repentance instead he had got death threats from her. That had been the start of their fights. She had shouted curses at him while he had stood awed at the spirit and strength of this woman. At first , she couldn't even stand to be in the same room as him, but gradually they had been able to have civil conversations. It had all started when he had once asked her for advice on a matter concerning Hindus, he had been surprised at the soundness of her advice. From that day onwards, he would discuss with her before taking any important step. She was still a bit immature in political matters, only thinking about the well-being of the public not fully weighing the pros and cons of a decision. They had had huge fights when she had considered his decisions were only for his well-being and ' he was a heartless bas***d who did not care for his people' but gradually she had understood. Their meetings had become more frequent and while before they had left him feeling angry, now he always felt like smiling. He knew then that he had fallen in love. It was not her beauty, although gorgeous, he was attracted to more than that. He loved the way he felt around her. Free. He loved the way she thought about everyone before herself. He loved the way she considered his Ammi her Ammi. He loved how the very people who had had apprehensions about a Hindu bride now loved her. He loved how she was so strong, she had never shed a tear in front of him even though she must have been scared as hell inside. He could give a million reasons why he loved her. Just thinking about her made him smile although he was painfully aware of the fact that it was he who always went to meet her, she would never request him to come and meet her. He guessed that she had probably accepted her fate and and still hated him but just didn't show it as before.

She was smiling at the rabbit's antics. He sighed. She never smiled because of him. The only two times he saw her smile was when she played with the animals or when she recieved some news about her beloved Aamer. But still, those smiles didn't reach her eyes. There was a kind of sadness about them. Jalal sighed. It was all his fault. Suddenly she looked up and the smile instantly vanished. Dejected, he turned around and went away. He couldn't undo what he had done to her but atleast he could stop himself from hurting her more by staying away from her.
Jodha's POV
She could feel his eyes on her. She could feel the longing in his eyes for her.
"Jalal does not have a heart''. That was what everyone had told her. She could almost laugh out loud. How could they be so blind? She had never met a more caring and loyal person.
There had been a time when even she had thought he was a heartless person. But all her opinions about him had changed drastically, starting with their wedding night.
She had never meant to attack him. She knew the fate of Amer was in his hands. Anything happened to him and her Amer would be finished. She had just kept the dagger for safety but his smirk had made something inside her explode and she had attacked him and then had shouted curses at him. She had been surprised when he hadn't retaliated and had been more surprised when instead of devouring her had refused to make love to an unwillung woman and had gone
away from there. That was the first and only time when her courage had deserted her and she had cried tears of relief in the solitude of the chamber.
She had been hostile to everyone in Agra at first but seeing their kindness and honest attempts they made to make her comfortable she had become friends with all the daasis and even with some harem women. She particulary liked Adham Khan's wife. The woman was a darling and so pure at heart. But the one person who truly made her feel happy and at home was Ammijaan. Every thing she felt she shared with her Ammi who never let her feel the absence of her Maasa.
But the one person she still detested was That Jalal. He would come to meet her but she would hurl abuses at him. She detested the monster. She was surprised he let her get away with it but sometimes when his control broke he would retaliate with the same amount of passion.
One day, he had come to ask her for her advice on a political matter. She had been surprised but had given him her best. She had never expected him to actually implement her advice. From then on, he would come often to visit her. She would never show it, but she would be secretly delighted whenever she saw him approaching. Once, she had accused him of being a 'heartless bas***d' when he had made a decision she considered was cruel to the people but gradually she had realised that he had been right. Sometimes to make sure the people were happy in the long-run they had to face some hardships in the short run. She had seen him with his Badi Ammi, Ammi Jaan, Ruqaiya, his sister, Abdul. He was a very kind and caring person who ranked loyalty very high. He always thought about himself in the end. His people came first for him.
Once, while he was sitting with her watching her play with the rabbits she had seen him tend to a hurt one. The last piece of hatred she had for him was shattered and she realised she had fallen in love with him. What she felt for Suryabhan could never match with what she felt for her Shehanshah. Alongwith the realisation came fear. How did he feel? He probably still saw her as a conquest. The fear would never allow her to talk to him the way she wanted to. So she stayed aloof from him. Never showed him she loved his visits, loved the discussions she had with him, loved his expressive eyes, his smile, the small dimple he had.

Jodha smiled as she remembered how gentle he had been with the rabbit when he had tended to it. Alongwith the memory came the ever present fear. She sighed and looked up. He was approaching her. The smile vanished as her heart started beating faster and faster. A smile couldn't do justice to the way she felt about him. She wanted to laugh out loud, sing, dance, she could hug even Adham Khan! She was so happy!
She waited for him to come closer but his eyes suddenly darkened and he turned and walked away.
