Blast from the past

It seemed like a celebrations of Women s Day. Actually, it was a night dedicated to the legendary women of Mahabharata. Satya Paul in association with Young FICCI Ladies Organisation of Mumbai, presented Legends of Mahabharata , an evening of art and fashion at a city hotel recently. The event was a fundraiser, proceeds of which will go to a project for the development of young women in Dharavi slums.

The Royal Mahabharata collection of Chiara Nath and Puneet Nanda, (design team of Satya Paul) hovered between the classic and the contemporary. And it sure led to different style aesthetics on the ramp. As models Deepika Padukone, Pia Trivedi, Carol Gracias, Vidisha Pavate, Dipanita Sharma, Tapur and Tupur Chatterjee, and Aditi Govitrikar displayed the garments in a kaleidoscope of Krishna colours.

With a live music recital by Parthiv Goel, the fashion show was choreographed by Sharmilla Khanna. Designer Maheep Kapoor diplayed her diamond creations.

Shabana Azmi, the guest of honour, turned out to be the show-stopper in her Satya Paul art-deco graphic black sari with fuschia diamonds.

Also spotted at the do were Kapil Dev, Bhavana Pandey, Pooja and Kabir Bedi, Biddu, Saryu Doshi, Ramona Narang, Queenie Dhody, Suman Ranganathan, Bunty Walia, Riya Sen, Papri Bose, Rakshanda Khan, and Lascelles Symmons, amongst others. And the list isn t exhaustive you know.
