Hello Goddy! I have been a silent member of the forum since IPKKND days and really enjoyed the first season of Imlie. Aditya & Imlie were absolutely amazing and one of my favorite pairs ever in ITV.
Coming to Jhanak, I find the three main characters to be very familiar to the ones from Imlie season 1. Let me explain it further by saying, Jhanak is a " What if?" scenario of basically OG Imlie, Aditya and Malini in terms of character, aspirations and reactions with "Jol Nupur" background mixed in. It actually makes for quite an interesting watch. (I watched the whole set of episodes multiple times to come to this opinion about things)
For Jhanak: Birth and childhood similar to Imlie, except for the fact that she comes from a more modern/ technologically advanced society and her mother made sure she is well educated and independent both academic and personality wise. I feel this is what Imlie would have been if she was not from a backward village like Pagdandiya and had rejected the notion of marriage to Aditya. I find Jhanak and Imlie to be both strong and attractive personalities which made/will make Adi and Ani fall for them respectively.
For Arshi: Again a "what if" where had Malini been more forthcoming and bolder in questioning her doubts in Aditya, it would have resulted in Arshi. Arshi is well established like Malini and unlike Malini she is the one who is more reserved about marriage here. Both the characters show a strong result of their upbringing with Malini being blindly trusting due to aversion to her mother's doubtful nature, which destroyed her parents' marriage (while Anu was very valid in her actions mostly) while Arshi is classist because that was what was taught to her from her mother. She is selfish, discriminatory, elitist and has learned the ropes to put people down just like how Shristi did for Urvashi as she feels threatened by both Jhanak's talent and innate strength in character. She also is bolder in questioning Aniruddh because deep down she understands that he is being overprotective and possessive to a certain degree that comes before her as first priority. One good thing I feel about her is that she will not take it lying down unlike Malini and the relationship dynamics between her and Jhanak is already established to be somewhat hostile unlike Imlie- Malini (God, I was so annoyed by Imlie's "Malini Didi Jaap" after she comes back to Tripathi Niwas, nothing like that here!!). Arshi and Malini are pathetic to a certain extent because in the end, regardless of their differences in personality, they still will cling on pathetically to their "man" even if that person doesn't love them anymore just because they invested in the relationship for many years and could not understand that a person's station in life is not a contributing factor to falling in love and considers themselves to be superior to Imlie/Jhanak respectively.
Finally coming to Aniruddh: He is what Aditya would have been had he been more receptive to Imlie's plight earlier and understood her. They are very similar in a lot of qualities and different in others. Both are innately very helpful and stand against wrong and sometimes do herogiri. However, unlike Adi, Aniruddh is more flexible in terms of telling lies and having qualms about it destroying his inner self. He is very clear in one thing: to bring Justice to Urvashi and help Jhanak become independent because he trusts in her nature and inherent talent to make it big, more than Jhanak herself which makes for points of conflict between the two. He is also not in denial about his changing feelings for Jhanak and is actively questioning himself as to why her absence and leaving him affects him to a greater extent than he imagined. All these things are happening way sooner to him than it did for Adi, and this will give rise to a different but equally interesting story arc in the future.
That being said, since both stories are envisioned by Leena ji, I feel Jhanak will be a compelling story that explores the conflicts between these morally flawed characters. All the six characters are well defined worth analyzing and I am personally looking forward to how Arshi's character will shape up in the future since Malini's character was destroyed thoroughly by Gul in season 1 for TRP race.
I also will post a separate reply to give my opinion on the relationship dynamics between Jhanak and Ani and Ani and Arshi since I have a lot to say about it and did not want to make this post very tedious. I hope that members of the forum can discuss and elaborate more on my observations regarding the characters till current episode.
PS: I also watched Faltu, SP did them so dirty!
