We've got Jaqueline being an actual judge, Manish being sassier than usual, MORE comments about Arjun having the least number of points (big shocker there!), Anil Kapoor, and... Mona Singh? Where'd she come from?
Let's start with a little bit of a recap of last week:
Shakti's performance was my favorite last week, and I'm quite happy that he got a 27 (I wouldn't be too sad if he got anything higher either...).
I wasn't impressed by Salman's performance, but I can live with him getting a 27.
Arjun's performance wasn't phenomenal, but he deserved more than a 21, or at least more than Harpal and the twins. The twins might be better dancers, but Arjun's performance was much better than theirs last week! I would've given them a 20-21, Harpal a 22, and Arjun a 23 at best (I can live with 24 too).
I didn't even remember that Harpal got a 24, I thought he got a 21 like Arjun. What the hell judges?!
Now as for this week...
Sidhant actaully surprised me! I really enjoyed his performance, and I think that he's really good for a non-dancer! Like Shakti, I was expecting him too be bad so I could rant about him, but alas, he also ruined all my hopes and dreams. Now all I can do is say that I actually like him.
Side Note: I literally fell off my chair when Manish said "ab bhi pata nehi kaun" while introducing Pranalini. He was speaking for all of us when he said this. Oh Manish...
Moving on, Pranalini's choreography wasn't bad, I'm glad she kind of gave Sidhant a powerful performance and Krumping was a good dance form for her to choose. It was definitely risky, but Sidhant handled it well, and I think Pranalini knew that he could handle the choreography, and that's one of the most important things to know as a choreographer. Knowing your partner's limitations, as well as their strengths and weaknesses is very crucial! Although the dance was good, I did notice Sidhant fumbling a little bit, which was okay because it's only the second week. But I also noticed that he kept looking towards Pranalini, or just looking down at his feet. Big mistake! Looking at your feet or at your partner for guidance does not under any circumstances help your performance, it distracts you a lot more than you realize!
I completely agree with everything the judges have said about his performance. I especially agreed with Ganesh and Jaqueline's comments. I like that Jaqueline mentioned how she liked that this was a pure dance only performance! It didn't need special effects or some big concept, the dancing alone was more than enough. And I also like how Ganesh mentioned that he could've been a little more powerful with his movements, which is kind of a big mistake on Pranalini's part. Sometimes because his movements weren't as powerful as they could've been, it seemed as though he lagging in energy, so having the right amount of impact on certain movements is so necessary.
Side Note: Jaqueline was a lot more bearable for me to watch yesterday. Her comments for the most part seemed very judge-like, and I also like that she kept her fangirling to a minimum. Please, please, please for the love all that is good Jaqueline, stay like this!
To end my bhashan about Sidhant's performance, I'm really happy that he got a 26, a 27 would've been even better, and I wouldn't have even been too outraged if he'd gotten a 28, but nothing more than that.
Side Note: During his little video thing at the beginning, which was so sweet, he said something like "achi shakal hai, body bhi hai, actor banta hoon" and I keep thinking about that! There was no deep BS about "bachban se main..." just pure honestly which is just so surprising, not to mention refreshing!
Now before I start talking about Suvreen, I just want to say Chutki is not that funny. I was rolling my eyes throughout that whole "comedy" bit with Anil sir. You could see that that was a forced laugh, Anil ji was just being polite.
Moving on...
First of all, poor Suvreen! She seemed so embarrassed when Manish mentioned (what was it, a kiss?) that thing from 24. It was probably so awkward... Second of all, Suvreen's performance. She's a good dancer, and she's going to be a great dancer by the end of this season. But I expected a lot more from Sanam, I usually really like his choreography, but it just seemed a little off to me this time around. But I also know Sanam can do wonders, so I'm just going keep my fingers crossed. Although, I did like that last bit at the end when Sanam pulled Suvreen towards him or something. That was kind of nice.
Honestly, after the word "hot" was said more than once, I tuned the judges out. The word "hot" is being so overused this season, and I'm honestly just laughing and crying at the same time like crazy person because of this.
Side Note: Karan Johar is such a dork! His two brooches kind of caught my eye, pom pom and mustache, and for some reason I'm obsessed. It's so dorky and un-Karan-like, I love it!
Another Side Note: Jaqueline's got a catchphrase! (Iss performance main KICK hai!) You're not officially a judge until you have a cheesy catchphrase...
Anyways, Suvreen was definitely over scored! 27 is way too much! I would've given her a 24-25 at best. And I want to see more of her personality! Like, where's her special video?
Now before I get to Chutki, I just want to say that I absolutely adore Mona Singh, but why the heck is she even here? And also, enough of these Arjun jokes! It's actually getting really annoying at this point, like I'm actually so peeved by this!
Moving on to Chutki's performance, (he? she? shim?) is actually a good dancer. Chutki's very flexible, and where did those legs come from?! Those, those right there, those were dancer legs! Diwakar's choreography was great, and I'm really glad that Karan finally mentioned how the poor guy is always given some of the more challenging contestants, but he has no complaints and he just goes with flow. I love this guy! But despite all of this, because of the costume malfunction, I think 23 was a little much, 20 points at best.
Side Note: They kept showing in promos and "coming up" how Ganesh was so mad about the costume malfunction, but Ganesh never said anything! That was some serious baiting Rangeela...
Now time for my favorite performer of the night, Shantanu Maheswari!!! I loved this performance so much! The choreography was on point, there were a few gag moments here and there, the coordination was great, expressions were amazing, Shaan and Alisha were so in sync... And I loved that Alisha gave Shantanu a little solo portion in there. Also, um, to be very honest, I think was more happy to see Alisha dance because it's just been so long since I've seen her dance! But I do think that we're going to be getting a lot more of this Hip Hop/Bollywood, maybe some Freestyle/Contemporary, choreography from her... From what I remember, that's what her choreography is mostly consisted of.
At the end of their performance though, the thing I loved most was Shakti's face because it was literally like "oh shit, he's so good!" And they got a happy dance from Ganesh! As a Shantanu fan, I am very happy! Although, I'm a little confused about that 28, mainly because Ganesh gave him higher marks than both Karan and Jaqueline. Just, why?
Side Note: Karan and Jaqueline's dance killed me though! You could even see Alisha dying of laughter in the background!
Finally, it's time for Helly's performance! Her dance wasn't bad, it was pretty average, so I basically I didn't hate it. I loved their concept, I think Helly did pretty well in the beginning on her own, it was super dramatic. The performance was little clumsy here and there and I also think that she was a little stiff with her movements. This one is for both Helly and Arjun: movements should have a more natural flow to them, if you're nervous it's okay, but as a performer you don't people to know that.
As for the judges' comments, I agree with them for the most part. When Karan said it was a little under rehearsed, I didn't see that. She fumbled, yes, but that doesn't mean that her performance was under rehearsed. And I loved when Ganesh mentioned that this was all on Jai. Yes, execution wise, it's on both of them. But choreography wise, Jai should've done better. You can't expect a non-dancer to act and dance at the same time, especially not this early on. And for me, the acting portion of the performance kind of interfered with the dance portion of it. And I completely agree with what Jaqueline said as well, Jai's choreography lacks a lot of variety! I can't remember if it was Karan or Ganesh who said this, but Jai's the one who's holding Helly back. He needs to up his game, but honestly, I think for him, the judge's comments went in through one ear and out the other! He has no faith that a non-dancer can improve, that's why he does the same, simple contemporary performances every single time, just in different ways because he thinks that no one will notice. I have no words, just very angry actions...
22 points is what this performance deserved, a 23 would've been justified as well, but I think that a 24 would've been a bit too much.
Eviction time! I'm shocked that Arjun and Helly were in the danger zone! Is this studio audience like actually legit?! But anyways, Chutki, your performance wasn't terrible but... BYE!
All in all, this episode was a lot better than last week's, because it was actually bearable, and I hope Jhalak continues like this.
