Part 3

What happened? Teja shouted as tears cascaded down Devi's cheeks.

"Nothing, Devi whispered, wiping her tears.

"Don't lie, it's been a month since you came back but you are not yourself. You tend to space out and start crying out of the blue. You are worrying me...please tell me the Reason' due to which you almost skipped the entire semester, that too of our final year of MBBS, Teja pleaded and sat by Devi's side.

Devi kept mum. Teja sighed. She knew that devi was a hard nut to crack.

"Fine, I won't force you but whenever you feel like sharing...I'll be right here. But I'll say this- It's the most crucial year of our lives. You are just on time for the Exams and thankfully you are being allowed to sit for exams because of your excellent academics result...so whatever may be the reason, try to put it aside and concentrate on what matters the most!

Devi nodded. Teja is right. She had got her heart shattered but her sanity was still intact. She will bring pride to her chote kakosa and buasa who have looked after her as their own daughter.

And with her mind made, Devi opened the book, Physiology of Alimentary Canal'.

"Get out of here! Adhiraj shouted frustrated, at the man sitting opposite to him.

"What mockery is this, Mrs Rajawat! I came here to give my daughter's hand in marriage just because I and your husband were good friends. But such disrespect on Adhiraj's account is intolerable! the man shouted getting off the sofa.

Heera tried to pacify the man but failed miserably when Adhiraj opened his mouth yet again.

"If it is so intolerable...why are you still standing here?! Do me a favour and get the hell out of here!

And with that, the man glared at Heera and left.

Adhiraj started to leave when masa caught hold of his arm and turned him around.

"It was the 6^th proposal this month that you have rejected! What is it that you want?! she shouted exasperated.

He glared at her with blood shot eyes making her flinch.

"I don't want to marry anyone! he hissed through gritted teeth.

"Is it because of that manhoos Chauhan! She didn't only try to poison me but poisoned you as well...

"Enough masa! She didn't poison anyone! You did... Adhiraj shouted.

He had tried hard to keep his anger in check but constant verbal abuses against Devi, wrong allegations against her character that too by the woman who plotted against her made his blood boil.

Heera's eyes widened. Did he know?!

"Laadesar tu... she tried to manipulate him but he face palmed her.

"And she has a name, Devi Adhiraj Rajawat, he spoke and left from there.

He had become awfully habitual to her nonsensical rants. No wonder, the haveli felt empty. He wondered if she really was the bird who harboured the Demon's life as she used to exclaim because nothing was the same without her. Her memories invaded his mind and her smiles invaded his senses. He knew that she deserved better.

"Devi, a woman from behind the table called out.

"Yes ma'am, Devi turned around.

"A parcel came for you while you were attending the lectures, the warden replied and handed over an envelope to her.

Her hands shook. It looked like that envelope has some papers...

Divorce papers!?' she thought worried.

And her heart started to thump loudly when she noticed the address- Sujangarh!

Did he really...' she felt her legs starting to give up when her eyes fell on sender's name- Bharat Chauhan.

Devi let go of the breath that she didn't know she was holding and relaxed.

She started leaving for her room when her steps halted.

Why was she dreading those papers, when she signed them by will! What crazy sorcery is this?

As she plopped on her bed, she opened the envelope and inserted her hands in it. Her fingers felt several papers with soft slippery print.

Photos!?

She took a sip of her juice and pulled a photo outside and as soon as she inverted the photo, she inhaled in shock and juice entered her wind pipe, choking her. She coughed loudly when Teja showed up and started thumping her neck to ease her.

"Are you fine? Teja asked putting her bag down.

Devi smiled and discreetly slipped the photo back in envelope and equally stealthily slipped the envelope behind her pillows.

Phew...' She sighed internally.

It was half past 9. Devi turned her neck to the other side and saw Teja engrossed in her phone. And once she was assured of her over alert friend, she tugged the envelope out from its position and pulled a photo out.

She wasn't hallucinating. These photos...and Bharat kakosa sent them!

Her head fell into her palms. She had broken the laptop but she totally forgot that she had developed all those 86 photos and had hid them safely under her pile of books, back at home. How embarrassing! They must have seen the broken laptop, but after seeing the pile of all those photos...what must they be thinking!

She poured all the photos out and looked at him. He truly is a demon, for he comes to haunt her every time she tries to wipe him off, and with a greater force...

Devi stared at the photo; she clicked it when he fell asleep on his chair while working. He had looked absolutely adorable, sleeping like a baby...

Realisation dawned and Devi slipped the photos back into envelope. What is she doing dreaming about a man who couldn't trust her even after all the tribulations she underwent? What's the point thinking about the man who hadn't called once to ask about her?

"Don't come again! Bharat shouted exasperated and was about to slam the door shut when voice from the other end stopped him.

"Since you won't give me her number or tell me her whereabouts the easy way, I'll just have to bend my ways a little...I'll keep doing it unless and until I get what I want! He smirked.

Bharat fell on the recliner, exhausted. What madness is this? Adhiraj had been banging at their door continuously since morning and it was already 10 at night. He had refused to divulge any info about Bitto and thus Adhiraj had decided to annoy them. First their phones kept ringing but they were put on mute, then their doorbell started ringing and so he had cut its wire...but now there's no way he could stop this constant banging of door.

Bharat feared if Adhiraj decided to take any drastic steps like earlier!

The morning came and Chauhan family woke up to a peaceful environment. However Avantika was shocked when she opened the door to collect newspaper.

Adhiraj Rajawat was sleeping there in a seating position.

Was he here...the entire night?!

His eyes opened and saw Avantika and this made him happy as he jumped to standing position and looked at her hopefully. But his hope was shattered when she glared his way and shut the door on his face. He sighed and started banging the door again. Night came and Bharat peaked out of the window to check if Adhiraj was gone.

"I'm still here...just a bit tired, Adhiraj replied from under the window and sneezed.

Bharat looked at Adhiraj and saw him shivering. 2 nights out in the freezing chills of Rajasthan ain't no joke!

"Stop being stubborn and be gone! I don't want you dying on my doorsteps, Bharat shouted annoyed.

Adhiraj chukled.

"Are you scared that I'll kick the bucket?! Don't worry, I'll be fine, Adhiraj shrugged him aside.

Bharat slapped his forehead and shut the window. This borderline harassment has to be stopped.

The next morning, police came and warned Adhiraj to leave and he refused. Left with no option, they arrested him. And by noon, Sharad showed up and bailed him out promising proper behaviour from Adhi's side.

"Stop being a stubborn mule! Sharad chided him.

Adhiraj just shrugged in response. And by night, he was stationed outside Chauhan house again.

"If you don't tell me about Her, I'll die here only...at your doorsteps, Adhiraj shouted meaningfully. It rained that night and the next morning Bharat found Adhiraj out cold in the lawns, burning in fever. And thus he called Sharad to pick him up from the hospital.

When he opened his eyes, he found himself cocooned in the warmth of quilts. Looking to his side, he found masa and sharad talking. He propped his body up and started getting out of the bed.

"Ke kare hai laadesar! masa shouted and came to his rescue when he stumbled.

He pushed her away slightly and started wobbling his way out of the room.

Bharat could not believe his ears when his door started banging again. Krishu looked down from her room and saw Adhiraj knocking against the door, on intervals...

"I request you to tell me where she is...I won't hurt her anymore...I won't...Adhiraj shouted, panting and slid against the door.

Krishu's face fell. She knew that this was the man whose pictures her devi didi used to see on her laptop. And moreover her family has always taught her to help people in need...

Adhiraj was startled when something dropped on his head. He pulled it down and found a blanket, medicines and a note.

He tilted his head upwards to see choti chidiya' peeping down at him.

Warily, he opened the note but the contents inside warmed him and made him guilt ridden at the same time.

'You are my devi didi's husband. You made her cry...I know. But you are feeling sorry and didi had told me that if someone apologises from their heart, they should be forgiven but you should be saying sorry to devi didi but you don't know where she went, right? I'll tell you if you promise to apologise properly to her...

And these are medicines for cold...I wont like it if you fell ill again....'

Adhiraj felt disgusted with himself. This was the very same child who he had got rusticated and who was beaten ruthlessly by her teacher on masa's insistence.

He looked up and held his ears and smiled a bit. She smiled in response and signalled him to wait by her hands. Few seconds later, another note was thrown down and as he opened it, a smile escaped onto his lips.

"National Medical College, Delhi.

So here is your update folks😃
