Photo finish
For some less is more, but for Raj Thackeray, less was simply that — less.
The nephew-tiger arrived at this conclusion on his 37th birthday when he is supposed to have arrived at Matoshree, lensmen in tow, for a photo-and-blessings-opportunity with the Sena supremo. Insiders present say that Thackeray senior turned up to bless his bhanja in a banian.
Unable to picture the tiger minus his customary garb, the photographers came away empty-handed. We suspect, so did Raj.
Tina's turn And while the two brothers draw the lines, so do their families.
As Nita Mukesh Ambani presides over the Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Tina Anil Ambani will launch the JBCN International School at Lower Parel today.
This one is a state-of-the-art high school with AC classrooms, and will have Tina Ambani as its patron. We're pondering over their next move. Maybe a magazine from the other camp. The boost kickstart
You've probably seen cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar and Brett Lee play ball with each other while endorsing New Boost on TV.
Since neither of the two are seasoned football players, a football trainer was hired by the advertising agency, Illusion Films, to give the duo tips on twirling the ball like pros.
In some shots, the two were kicking an imaginary ball that was later digitally inserted into the frame, as Shantanu Bagchi who directed the ad, reveals.
So if Tendu and Brett appear as if they should switch to professional football, remember, it's nothing but an illusion. Stand up and laugh
The first chuckle is the hardest to get. So why wouldn't a stand-up comedy show put the most wired performer right up front?
The first of the monthly stand-up comedy evenings at Starters & More last Wednesday started with a whimper and ended with a bang.
Seriously though, did three out of four lines have to be Seinfeld-isms? One performer had even the pauses, lean-ins and New York inflection down pat.
Boisterous and shockingly ribald Shahriyar Atai's 'bawa' routine had us clutching our sides. But only the deceptively seedha-saadha-looking Kunal Roy Kapoor still has us laughing four days down. Him, we can very easily get greedy for.
Leaky serial
A reader who calls himself 'sweesuga' informs us that Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin is not going to end in a hurry; this is how the story will pan out: Jassi and Armaan get intimate in Amritsar.
Jassi justifies this as they are engaged and soon to get married. But because of the bad publicity, Armaan dumps Jassi in Mumbai. Armaan and Mallika get married.
Jassi gets pregnant. Purab blames himself for Jassi's badnaami and leaves forever (again). To save Jassi's respect, Nandu marries Jassi.
But they remain good friends. Jassi gets a daughter. Armaan and Mallika also have a daughter. Jassi and Nandu make money on the stock market and become rich. Armaan's daughter and Jassi's daughter meet in college.
They hate each other. Both fall in love with Purab's son. Jassi's daughter wants the guy and also wants to get her mom's respect back. She takes over Gulmohar and forces Armaan to accept Jassi as his wife.
Purab is excited about his son marrying Jassi's daughter. Jassi opposes it. Jassi and her daughter fight. And the saga continues... Are Tony and Deeya Singh listening? Blackbucks in backyard The Nawab needn't have travelled to Haryana in pursuit of blackbucks; Mumbai's very own Jijamata Udyan has 71 black beauties, kept in open moated enclosures.
They're given a daily diet of soaked gram, gram flour, carrots, vegetables and green grass. "Around 10 to 15 years ago, we had only six blackbucks. But they have been breeding at a rapid rate and now we've imposed population control," says Dr M V Wani.
"Till 2001, blackbucks were an endangered species, but not any more. Now they're quite common," he adds. The zoo uses castration and vasectomy as methods to curb their population. The Nawab, we think, would do things differently.
Wearing her art off her sleeves Ah Mallika! Her stories never cease to fascinate.
While on a whistle-stop tour of TV channel offices to promote her Bachke Rehna Re Baba, Mallika wore an off-shoulder dress which showed off her assets to what else but perfection.
At one point, as she prepared for her interview, she reportedly summoned her assistant.
"Look at this dress. It's not holding up correctly," she said.
The flustered assistant quickly tried pushing up the sleeves to cover up Mallika's bare shoulders.
At this point, the oomphy actress snapped, "Not up; push it down some more."
Needless to say, everyone was rivetted. |
