Second Shot

She walks hurriedly towards the auditorium as she was very late. There was some function going on in the school and the parents were invited too. Her phone buzzes for the tenth time since the morning and she knew who it would be. She picks up the call without seeing the number and before the other person could say she speaks,

"Yash! How many times do you want me to say it?"she said angrily.

"Roshni.. Please.. I don't want to break her heart!" he pleaded.

"Yash my answer is not going to change!" she cuts the call furiously and stands rooted at her place. She was now standing near the auditorium gate, trying to calm herself down. How could she give in to Siddhi's request? It was so absurd! Why couldn't she understand that it was meant for only HIM. She hits her on her head and says aloud,

"How will she understand? She doesn't even know."

Just at that moment Siddhi comes from inside and sees her. She comes angrily towards her and says,

"You are L.A.T.E" she pouted.

"I am so sorry, baby. Traffic!" she tried to appease her.

"Sorry se kaam nahi chalega." replied back Siddhi instantly. Roshni knew at once how to convince her. She sits down on her knees in front of her and looks at her innocently holding her ears.

"No..you always do this!" she said unhappily, faking it.

"Ohh... Sidu wants a kissy?" asked Roshni with a smile. Siddhi nods her head up and down saying a yes. Roshni kisses her cheeks and hugs her.

"Siddhi.." called one of her friends.

Siddhi loosens the hug and looks at her new friends consciously as she didn't want them to tease her.

"We are going inside.." said her friend and they went inside the auditorium.

"Mom.. where is he?" she asked anxiously.

"Siddhi... he will not come!" replied back Roshni sternly.

"But mom my friends will.." she said with tears brimming in her eyes.

Roshni was now irritated with the same topic that had been going on from the past few days. She gives a cold look to her daughter and Siddhi runs away inside screaming,

"I hate you!"

As the auditorium gates open she hears a familiar voice and gets drawn to it immediately. Someone was singing, and she had heard the voice before. The depth of his voice reflected the pain that she had borne in her heart. She wanted to know who it was, that was going through the same pain that she had been going through. She walks inside slowly to see. As soon as her eyes meet his figure sitting on a stool at the stage, strumming on his guitar and singing with his eyes closed, her eyes shoot up wide open. How could this be? This was impossible. He was supposed to be dead.

She stood grounded at the place recalling that terrible accident and then what happened after that.

[ Flashback :

"Sidddhaarth..." she screamed in her sleep and wakes up.

"Shh.. calm down beta!" murmured DD caressing her forehead.

"Mom.. Where is he?" she asked anxiously.

DD glances at Nani and then at her. "I..I.." she stammered.

"Mom..please..." she begged for an answer.

"I'm sorry. He is... He is no more." said DD as tears rolled down her cheeks seeing the pain in her daughter's eyes.

Her eyes widen up and she pleads, "No...No.. Mom.. No.. I can't.. I can't live without him... It was my fault...my fault.. I shouldn't have distracted him... what did I do?" she said hysterically.

DD holds her and takes her in her embrace to pacify her. She cries her heart out and after sometime her eyes were dry and she was so tired that no tears even formed. She could not even begin to say how much pain she was feeling in her heart.

"Where is he? I want to see him!" she said suddenly. DD wipes her tears and cups her face,

"Beta, it's been three weeks since the accident. We are in London coz you needed good medical attention. He...he passed away the very next day we came here.." said DD

"I want to go see him.. I need to Maa.." she said frantically.

"No!! You can't! You are not well. You are strictly forbidden to even move coz-" she stops midway as Nani makes her quiet.

"Roshni beta... please calm down... and listen to us.." said Nani caressing her hair.

"No.. I want Siddharth.. Please bring my Siddharth.." she pleaded and falls unconscious due to stress.

Laut aao tum phir se, dil kahe, dil kahe

Sun kitne sitam dil yeh ab sahe

Khata kya mujhse ho gayi

Jo jal gaye sapno ke ghar sabhi

Barish mein bhi jata hoon main

She closes her eyes and feels the pain in his voice, echoing hers and she knew that these words were for her and only her.

The next day Roshni tries to escape from the hospital so that she could go to meet him. But she gets caught by DD midway. She tries to get out of her mother's hold and in anger and frustration DD slaps her and shouts,

"If you don't care for your life atleast think about the one that is growing inside you!"

"What?" replied back Roshni in surprise holding her stomach.

"Yes, you are pregnant. I.." she hugs her daughter and apologizes for slapping her.

"How can this happen?" whispered Roshni to herself.

"I don't know.. you should know!" retorted DD.

Roshni recalls the night spend with Siddharth and she looks up at DD. She starts weeping thinking that he was not there to witness such happiness. DD consoles her and says,

"I know you want to meet him... but the truth is he is no more. Care for what matters most in your life now. There is only pain back there in Mumbai.. I want you to be happy for my grandchild...Please think about it."

Tanhayi tanhaai, phir aayi, phir aayi

She finally listened to her mother and dedicated her life for their child. "Siddhi" was a blessing from God in exchange for what he took away from her. She was exactly like Siddharth. Her eyes, her nose, her every move was just like him. Roshni found solace in her and she was happy. But she could never keep a facade of happiness in front of her true self. She knew that she was incomplete without HIM until her very last breath. He was irreplaceable in her heart.]

The crowd cheers and brings her back to reality. Uncontrollable tears were rolling down her cheeks. She kept gazing at him, not wanting to look away for even a second because she was scared that he would disappear and this would end up just like one of her dreams. He comes down the stage, and she takes a small step towards him. But she stops immediately when she sees a small boy running towards him screaming "Dad"

At that moment, he noticed her. Their eyes met for the first time, but she felt alienated. Maybe she was hallucinating, how could he be alive. How he could be someone's "Dad." She had trust in her Siddharth that he would never betray her, this was definitely someone else.

He looks away for a moment and as soon as she escapes his stare she runs out into the bright sunlight. She walks a bit further and wipes her tears. Now was not the time to think about him, she had come here for Siddhi, who was already very nervous in this new environment. It had been only three days since she had shifted to Singapore and Siddhi was trying hard to adjust in this new school. So hard, and so desperate that she even tried to make Yash-

"Roshni?" said the same voice again.

"Not again" - she thought and turned around instantly. As tears wetted his cheeks, she couldn't control herself and spoke,

"Siddharth?" she whispered in between her sobs.

She stood there silently just staring at him, not wanting to miss out a single second before he vanishes into thin air. She knew this was not the time to think about him or talk to him but this dream had some different aura in it. She strongly could feel him near her and she gave up her heart to feel this moment.

"Don't cry, please! Even though it's just an imagination..." he whispered to her.

"You can't tell me what to do always!" she retorted back rubbing her nose. He had to be like this in her dreams even!

He smiles faintly and moves towards her, "It is my imagination na baby, I can do anything!" he teased and wipes his tears.

"His imagination? Matlab dream ka bhi credit isko chaiye? Credit khor!!" she thought and takes a step towards him angrily,

"Your imagination? Pagal ho gaye ho?" she raises her hands to smack him.

"I miss this.." he said looking at her hands.

His proximity and the low sultry voice was making her go weak, she had enough of this dream. He needed to go now. She had to focus on Siddhi who was now playing with her friends nearby.

So she strikes at his chest, thinking that he would disappear like he usually did in such circumstances. But what she didn't anticipate was that this time she could feel him. Her attention was grabbed and she shoots her eyes wide open. His eyes reflected back the same astonishment and she strikes at him again to see whether it was for real. She felt him again. Fresh tears flew down her cheeks and she tries to smack him again but this time he raises his hands to stop her.

"Roshni?" he said inaudibly in surprise.

"Siddharth?" she repeated with same sentiments.

Without wasting another second they take each other in their embrace. He wraps his hands around her waist and kisses her hair. She encircles her hands around his shoulder and closes her eyes. She takes in his scent; she had missed him so much. She did not want this moment to end anytime soon. All these years she had felt like a wanderer finding her home, she was home now. She kisses his shoulder and runs her hand on his hair. He was there with her. He loved her back. He was her Siddharth. Despite her effort of not letting him go, he loosens their hug suddenly and asks,

"Par Roshni... how? I thought you were... you were dead.." he asked looking intently in her eyes waiting anxiously for an explanation. She was stunned hearing his words. "Dead?" - she thought the same for him.

Before she could reply back to him, she hears Siddhi calling out to her,

"Mom!! Where is Dad?" she said as she ran towards them.

Roshni's eyes widen up as she hears "Dad" and she looks back at Siddharth. For a second she thought that Siddhi was referring to him. She wanted to tell him immediately that the little girl in front of them was theirs; she was his daughter but Siddhi takes her hand away from Siddharth's and pesters again,

"Mom!! He will come na? And who is this man?" she asked looking at Siddharth.

She comes out from her trance as she understood who Siddhi was talking about. Irritated with her she kneels in front of her and says,

"Siddhi.. how many times have I told you -" she gets cut when Siddhi's attention is grabbed by a man walking towards them. She leaves Roshni and runs towards him screaming,

"Daaad!!" he takes her up in his arms and kisses her cheeks.

Roshni turns around to see that Yash had come despite her telling him not to. At that moment she realizes that Siddharth had witnessed this, she gets up from the ground and looks at him, trying to figure out his thoughts. He looks at her questiongly and then turns around to look at the guy.

"Yash?" he said.

Siddharth looked to and fro, once at Yash then at Roshni. As his expressions change, Roshni understood what he must have thought. She wanted to clear him about the situation but he turns around and starts walking in the opposite direction despondently.

"Siddharth.." she calls out to him but he doesn't stop to listen.

She takes a small step towards him but Yash comes in between and says,

"Siddharth is alive? How?" he asked.

Roshni looks angrily at him, but before she could burst she sees that Siddhi was there too.

"Siddhi why don't you run along to play with your friends? We will come soon! Ok?" she said softly. Siddhi kisses Roshni's cheeks and leaves happily.

"What is wrong with you, Yash? Don't you understand a simple thing?" shrieked Roshni at him.

"Roshni... main toh buss help.." he replied back sadly.

"What help! This is ridiculous! If tomorrow a random child will come to you and tell you to become her father for the day, coz she doesn't have one, will you become one?" she yelled back.

"Siddhi is not any random child." he retorted back to her.

"Siddhi is my daughter. Siddharth is her father. Period. Ek din kya ek pal ke liye bhi usse kabhi kisi aur ki beti nahi banne dungi main." she said furiously and runs in the direction where Siddharth had gone.

After five years, she had some ray of hope in her eyes. Her Siddharth was alive. She couldn't let him go anywhere out of her sight. Right now all that mattered to her was to tell him the truth about Siddhi. He needed to know. She didn't want him to think that she betrayed him.

Tujh bin suna sa mann

He walked dejectedly towards a bench and sits on it. He felt miserable. Why was God punishing him like this? First he took her away from him and then when she came back and gave him slight hope, she could not be proclaimed to be his anymore. He could not even blame her. Even if he could, would he? His love for her was pure and unconditional.

Meri aankho ka aksar hai

Paani banti hai tu

Har pal tujhe yaad karu

Khud mein tujhko dhundu

He hides his face in his hands and sniffles in pain, trying his best not to shed anymore tears. So what that Roshni moved on? Atleast she was alive. Atleast her heart was still beating. - he thought to pacify himself. He decides that he would be happy for her and sniffs his last sobs. Just at that moment he feels her hand on his shoulder. She comes near him and sits beside him.

Meri rubaru tu hi tu

Tu hi tu

Mere rubaru tu hi tu

He doesn't look at her. But she makes him face her. There they sat looking intently at each other, trying to cover up for all those years that they had not seen each other. After a while even the tears vanished but they sat still in silence looking at the person whom they loved immensely.

I hope this part cleared some of your confusions! Next shot will be the last and will be their confrontation! Will try to make it a bit light hearted 😆😳
