TS: Almonds and Contentment and Bliss
Chapter 3: Bliss

Ragini stood rooted to the ground as long forgotten waves of pleasure passed through her body. It was not that she had never been pleasured by him, but the simple fact that she had been denied such pleasures over the past few years that made even his small gestures melt her heart.
"Do you plan to stay here all day?"
"Huh?"
She looked up to see him sitting in the car and looking at her with a sly smile. She cursed herself for looking so desperate and quickly composed herself. Without another glance at his annoying smile, she marched quickly to the other side of the car.
Nachiket smiled to himself. He knew very well the effect he was having on her and believe it or not, he enjoyed it. He had been denied such enjoyment for a long time and he promised to himself that he was never going to miss this again, ever. As he saw her trying to wear the seatbelt with hands that shook and just wouldn't cooperate with her, he smiled and thought Baby, let's see how long you hide from me.'
He bent dangerously close to her almost as if he was about to kiss her and she was shocked. She tried to pull back but when did her body ever listen to her when he was this close to her? It was as if he was having the strings and she was a puppet dancing to his tunes. She felt her eyes shut and her face drawn towards him. Her hands tried hard to move up and gently rub his cheeks but she tightly clutched the seat preventing it to fulfill its desire. As his breath caressed her face, she sighed longingly wishing that he would stop teasing and just kiss her already.
"You know, asking for help costs nothing."
She quickly snapped open her eyes to see him doing her seatbelt for her. She mentally hit her head. For the life of her she couldn't understand how he ALWAYS managed to get her this desperate. Quickly she turned away avoiding his glance.
Nachiket did a mental jig. He was on the right path.
...
"Nachiket"
"Yes, darling"
"Stop this..."
"You want me to stop the car, Baby?"
"Arrrgh... NO... Stop flirting with me."
"Flirting? What does that mean?"
"Don't use that innocent expression on me. Remember, I know you very well."
"I would be happy if you can explain exactly how well."
"Shut up, Nachiket"
"You started it."
"Yes, that was because you were continuously staring at me instead of looking at the road."
"Awww... Does that affect you? By the way how did you find out? You were looking outside."
"I have my ways and... YES, it does affect me as I want to get to the hospital soon. It's already late."
"Who said you are going to the hospital?"
"Huh? Nachiket, this is no time for playing games. I need to be there by 5. You promised to drop me."
"Did I?"
Ragini looked at him frustrated at the way he was behaving. How could he forget? Suddenly a thought crossed her mind and she gave a short bitter laugh. However did she forget that to her even such simple dreams were forbidden?
"Nivedita called you, didn't she? She wants to spend time with you... yes I know ALONE."
He winced at the bitterness in her voice. She had changed a lot and he knew he was the sole reason for it. He sighed wishing he could invent a time machine and go back in time and bring back HIS Ragini. HIS Ragini who always laughed freely in his presence and was always open about her feelings, be it her love for him or her anger. She had always been open. He knew he couldn't make the clock reverse. All he wished now was to heal the hurt he had inflicted on her.
"It's not a problem, Nachiket. Why don't you go? Drop me at the nearest bus stop. I am sure I'll get a rickshaw."
"Ragini... Why do you feel that every damn thing I do is about her?"
"She is your future, isn't she?"
"And who gave you the right to decide that?"
She looked at him and his eyes told her a story she had so long waited to her. A story of their love. She wished dearly that she could trust him, just this once, but, her mind refused.
"I don't have time to talk such nonsense with you. Now will you please drop me at the nearest bus stop?"
"No"
"Stop it, Nachiket. I said I don't have the time."
"Then make some. You are not going to the hospital today."
"Why? Oh... I get it you are feeling IGNORED again. You must have patience, Nachiket. This contract will be over soon, then Nivedita will be with you and I assure you, she will NOT let you feel ignored."
Nachiket slammed the brakes and stopped the car. She looked at him and saw his face clouded with anger. She felt fear clutch her whole being. A bear with a sore head was always better than Nachiket in anger. She tried to stay calm.
"Nachiket..."
"How many times must I tell you NOT to bring THAT girl BETWEEN US?"
"Nachiket, listen... I..."
"No, YOU listen, Mrs. Khanna. I know I was the one who brought her in between us initially, but is it too HARD to SEE that I am trying to push her away? Is it too HARD for you to FIGURE out that I am TRYING to make this marriage WORK? The Ragini I used to know could easily find what's in my heart by a single glance. You have changed so much Ragini."
"And do you really think that you are THE Nachiket I used to know?"
Nachiket looked sadly at her. She was right as she always had been. They had both changed. Time had changed them both from silly young lovers who fought over almonds to two strangers who knew everything about each other yet were so unfamiliar.
"I am sorry, Ragini. I shouldn't have shouted at you."
"It's okay I am used to it now."
This expression by her hurt him more than anything else. He shut his eyes tightly trying to collect the pieces of his shattered heart.
She looked at his tightly shut eyes and clenched fists. She knew he was hurt, hurt so deeply and she knew it was because of her. Gently, she tried to open the fisted hands. He opened his eyes and looked at her trying hard to soothe him in her own unique way and a lovely warmth spread his heart. Some things never changed and he was happy that one of those things was love.
"Ragini... I am okay."
"I am sorry, Nachiket. I didn't mean to hurt you this much."
"I deserved it. Now, coming back to the point, I rang up Devika and asked her to grant you leave today."
"WHAT? Nachiket are you crazy?"
"Yes, in your love."
"Nachiket, stop behaving like a teenager. You know that if I take leave for a day, the day's salary will be cut off from my monthly pay, don't you?"
"I know that very well."
"Then?"
"Ragini, did you really think that I am blind not to see how hard you are working? You need some rest."
"But?"
"Forget about the money. We'll earn it together from now on. I am joining the hospital tomorrow."
"WHAT? But you said you didn't want to work here. When did you get this change of mind?"
"When I came to know you hated almonds."
"Nachiket, that's..."
"No need to explain anything, Ragini. I know everything. Just relax, we have a long way to go."
"Where are we going?"
"Surprise"
"But the children?"
"I informed Pam."
She looked at him lovingly as she recognized some parts of HER Nachiket in this world famous Dr. Neil. Smiling softly to herself, she shut her eyes and went to sleep listening to the whoosh whoosh of the wind and the buzzing of the fast moving cars on the highway.
...
"Ragini, wake up. We have arrived."
She woke up slowly to see him shaking her softly. She gave him a small smile of gratitude for she had slept well throughout the journey. She could hear the soft whispers of the wind and a sound of water roaring. A sound she tried hard to recognize but couldn't.
"Where are we, Nachiket?"
"Come on out and see. Oh... Remove your slippers before you step down."
She looked surprised at his request but did as he commanded. Slowly, she placed her foot on the ground. As soon as her feet touched the ground she felt a childish joy spread all over her and she jumped up and down clutching her hands in excitement.
"The sea... The sea... Oh, Nachiket..."
She rushed to the waters madly as if meeting a long lost friend. As she came near the water, she stopped and looked at the mighty roaring waves. Very slowly she spread out her arms as if she was trying to hug the sea and breathed in the salty air, she so loved.
He looked at her standing there free from all worries and bitterness. He thanked the sea silently for bringing back his girl to him.
She turned back to see him standing far off and looking intently at her.
"Nachiket, what are you thinking? Come."
He smiled at her excitement and went near her. Slowly he held her hands and they both stood like that in silence, letting go of all their pain with the mighty waves that crashed their feet.
"Ragini..."
"Mmm..."
"Do you remember this place?"
She had been so excited to see the sea that she had not looked where she was. Now, at his question she looked around. The place seemed so familiar. It couldn't be... No, it couldn't be the place they shared their first kiss.
"Yes it is"
"Huh?"
"It is the place where we first kissed... uh... why don't you sit down. I bought something for you."
She sat down and thought of their first kiss. It had been beautiful. She still remembered how soft and gentle he was. She would give anything to get back to that time.
"Here..."
"Nachiket, ice cream?"
"I bought your favorite flavor... Butterscotch with extra chocolate in the cone. Don't tell me that you hate it."
"No, I love it. Thank you... uh... and is yours still double chocolate?"
"Yes... You remember?"
"You didn't forget did you? How do you expect me to?"
He smiled at her feeling loved. The finished their ice cream in silence listening to the lapping of the waves.
"Only now I know how much I missed the sea. Isn't it wonderful to sit here and listen to the waves? I feel I am completely at peace."
"Yes, that's true... uh... Ragini... uh you have some ice cream near your lips."
"Where?"
"Not there... no... down... no... a little up..."
"Arrey, I just can't seem to get the right spot. Why don't you help me get it off?"
As soon as she said it, she knew she had made a mistake. Even in the low lights, she could see his eyes darken with a want and passion she had so often wanted to see when she had been alone. She shivered a little as he came closer to her.
"Do you really want me to help?"
"Na..chi... ket... I..."
"How often have I told you not to say my name like that? You know it turns me on, don't you?"
"I... woh... the..."
He looked deep into her eyes and saw that they mirrored the same desires he had and all his resistances fell apart. He slowly kissed near her lips licking of the tempting ice cream. He pulled a little apart looking at her all flustered up and thought to tease her even more.
"Mmm... You know I love butterscotch ice cream mixed with strawberry lip gloss. I really missed it."
"Did you? How much?"
"Do you really want to know?"
She looked at him and frowned knowing that he was teasing her. She decided to tease him back and planted a soft kiss on his jaw knowing by experience that it was his weakest spot. He immediately closed his eyes enjoying the kiss.
"I would be glad, if you would like to show"
He snapped his eyes open and looked at her smiling at him. He now knew she was playing his own game and pulled her close to him.
"I would love to..."
And he kissed her pouring into the kiss all the feelings he had kept cramped in his heart all those years. She kissed him back with equal fervor for finally all her dreams were coming true and she had no intention of letting them go.
Finally after years of suffering and loneliness, they were content in the bliss that Love gives freely to all true lovers.
