Arpita, i believe you have a soft corner for Arnav. You always tries to justify him. You want to make his caring attitude magnificent to his infidelity. If you think shyam monster, I will call arnav something worse( do tell a worse adjective)
And if I had to choose, it will be neither shyam nor Arnav.(May be shyam.Atleast l know want I am entering to with shyam. There will be both emotional and physical damage but here emotional damage will be less comparing Arnav's scenario). It is 21st century.Lol! And at this point khushi's intimacy with Arnav who had lavanya looks brutal than going through it with any stranger.
In Pandora's box khushi had no 3rd choice because it was 1900s.She had to choose from Arnav and shyam. She choose Arnav.(Better of the 2devils)
About shyam's wife, i remember shyam replying to khushi's question that his wife also wanted home delivery.(preferably Flipkart 😅 kidding)
If shyam mishandling khushi makes him worst monster, then I should have stopped watching ipkknd when Arnav of ipkknd did the same. But teenager me didn't realise it , later, adult me ignored it
I sincerely wish manhandling was the only part that I had written about Shyam which was shady. He is a personification of every man I have ever encountered who think they’re modern unless the woman shows a little bit of independence. He was threatening her to rat out to her parents btw and these are two freaking adults. Not only is he physically abusive, he is emotionally manipulative too. He and his mom tricked Khushi into meeting him alone too,
The grove scene makes me uncomfortable to write. And no, as much as IPKKND scenes were problematic, I believe they’re poles apart. Khushi was repeatedly moving away, telling him of her discomfort and most importantly, SENSED that intentions were sexual in nature. A lot of IPKKND scenes make me angry too, but I don’t believe even in a single one Arnav had any wayward intentions towards her. Were they wrong? Yes. Were they as wrong as Shyam in this tale? No.
Not to mention she was already on edge about him. He was the same guy who stalked her to the point of driving her away from literal studies. It would not have been harmless teasing on the road (not that there is anything harmless about Eve teasing. All I’m saying is Shyam did harass her to a point where it was easier for her family to flee rather than thinking what he would do if they didn’t give in to his demands.) His retaliation to complain to his mother was barging into two women’s house, knowing full well he could threaten and dominate. And as Ashvini said, his whole family is too casual about a member’s death. I have no idea why that character would even feature in someone’s list of potentially a partner, let alone better than Arnav.
And as I said, I would choose a cheater like Arnav over a character like Shyam any day. This is not me making excuses for Arnav. I will never make excuses and say that Arnav didn’t cheat or hurt Khushi. He absolutely did do this vile thing.
Khushi is more devastated by Arnav because she loved him more. Had the same power been given to somebody like Shyam, her life would be a living nightmare. I genuinely can’t understand why would anyone willingly enter a union stating that at least khushi knew what she was getting into because this kind of physical assault and carelessness towards a whole life is not normal. Arnav could be the biggest scum on earth when it comes to being a partner because he denied Khushi her rights as a wife, but he has never treated her like Shyam jha in the past or in the present.
Additionally, the only option without any problems is Khushi choosing nobody and moving on. If only she was that independent and not to forget, from an oppressive family and place which is as good as 1900s. My point was that if she had to, I will want her running in opposite direction of SMJ in an instant. Even if the opposite is choosing Arnav.
