PART 23

Arnav, Shyam and Navin were seated in the visitor's room.

Navin: I m coming straight to the topic.I want to meet my daughter Samantha.

Arnav: Your daughter ?

Navin:The girl you are going to marry is my daughter

Arnav:I'm going to marry Mr.Gupta's daughter Khushi Kumari Gupta

Navin: See Mr.Raizada, I'm here to meet my daughter after so many years

Shyam:Mr.Sen,First of all we don't know who you are.Then second thing,how do you know that Khushi is your daughter?Above all how do you know that Arnav is going to marry her?

Navin: Mr.Raizada..You are a well known business man in the country.I've seen the photograph of the engagement in the media.One of the dailies have clearly mentioned that Khushi is the same Ms.Samantha Sen with whom Mr.Raizada was so close in Lucknow .And I know that Samantha's mother's friend is living some where in Lucknow.The name struck me.I started my enquiry.The first place I enquired was your office.But to tell you frankly..they are well trained.My men couldn't get any clue.But my last 3 days enquiry took me to a person whose friend was my daughter's fiance, Rohit.He took me to his father Mr.Sunil. As Mr.Gupta detailed everything to him before their engagement he could recognise me.Two days back my daughter called him for his blessings for marriage.He also told me the misunderstanding regarding his son's death .So I know every thing I want.

Shyam:See Mr.Sen, You cannot simply can appear one day and ask for your daughter.Where were you all these years?

Navin:Your query is truly genuine.It's a long story.I left Samantha and her mother when she was nearly 6 months old.One day I went to meet my parents abroad.They were not ready to accept my wife and daughter.My father was facing financial crisis.His business was going through a crisis. .His friend also our distant cousin was ready to help us.But only with one condition.I had to marry his handicapped daughter.I was horrified at the idea and came back to India eager to see my wife and daughter. I came back to them and was going to start a business in Kolkotta.My wife's family was very orthodox and was totally against me. I had threats from them. I don't know what Shashi told you but he knows that my parents came and met my wife one day in my absence.It was exactly two weeks after my visit to them.

They told my wife that my father will have to go to jail because of some problems in business and she was the only person who can compel me to come abroad to help him.They promised her that they would take her abroad later.

I was not ready to go but and Mr and Mrs Gupta promised to take care of them.My wife asked me to help my father.I went abroad.Two months passed by.I was in touch with my wife through letters and through phone once in a week.Mr.Shashi had no telephone.But one land phone was available in my house.It was some 22 years back.The mobile and social net work was not active.I was completing the formalities to take them abroad.But fate had decided something else.I met with an accident while I was travelling with my mother .My mother died at the spot and I was severley injured.That situation cut the connection between me and my wife.When I recovered I saw myself in my cousin's house.Gradually I understood that I was lying for nearly 6 months in that state and was entirely looked after by my cousin uncle and her handicapped daughter.I realised that my mother was no more and my father was in a state of depression.His business was now run by the uncle.

I also began to remember my wife and daughter and asked my uncle to connect me to them.He told me that they were taken away by my wife's family and they are not ready to respond.But I didn't believe.His daughter, Neelima, loved me very much.She decided to help me . I had the phone numbers of my friends in India written in one diary.She found it from home and contacted in that number.But the call was not answered..I had to lie in bed for some more days and by the time I recovered I decided to go to India.But my uncle was very treacherous.He had already got every thing in writing from my father.I became penniless and homeless.I had no money to come to India.I contacted my friends and they were ready to help.But my house was under his custody.My passport ,documents etc. were with him.

I decided to get back everything .I was relieved to think that my wife was with mr,Gupta's family.I contacted some of my friends in India and through them I contacted Shashi and was shocked to hear that my wife's health was not good and my daughter was safe and sound.My wife didn't respond through phone.I cried like a child that day.But Mrs.Gupta was not ready to believe me.She used abusing language at me and said that I'm a cheater.

I contacted Shashi and updated information about them without Mrs.Gupta's awareness. A few more days passed by.I wanted to get back my property and documents related to business from the uncle.I agreed for marrying his daughter but I told her that she would be my wife in name only.She was ready to accept my wife and my daughter.I told my uncle that our marriage is illegal as I was already married.He wanted a husband for his daughter as he could not find a suitable one for her.Neelima is a very simple, humble and gentle person.She was totally against all these but she also wanted a companion in her life and she loved me very much.

I got back my house, my business ,every thing.I came to India one month after my marriage .I contacted shashi and informed him that I would be coming to see my wife and daughter..Neelima insisted that she wants to come with me.I went to the place where my wife and daughter lived. But they had already left Bengal and none of the neighbours had any idea of their where abouts.Shashi never answered my phone thereafter.

I spent almost one month searching for them and at last went back abroad. You may believe or not, this is really what happened.I came to know from Rohit's father that my wife died many years ago itself.Now I have only my daughter.

Arnav stood up.He was totally silent and listened patiently.

Arnav:Your story is a sad one.But I'm bothered only about present.To me she is Mr.Gupta's daughter.You have no proof and no right to say that she is your daughter.It's almost 22 years, you say.The social net work and media is so strong for the past few years.Why didn't you try then?Why now?

Navin:I was not ready to spoil my daughter's name.

Arnav:or your name?If my information is right your present wife is a rich lady.She is her father's only daughter.You were attracted by her money and ditched Khushi's mother.

Navin:You are wrong.I'm not here to claim her.I just wanted to see her.I want to be a part of the most important day in her life..her marriage and I'm happy that she found the most eligible person.

Shyam:We can allow you only with the permission of Mr. and Mrs.Gupta.Mr.Gupta is in hospital.

Navin:I'll wipe out all your doubts now.He called somebody through phone.After a few minutes, a lady was brought in a wheel chair to the visitors room.Her face was so calm and spiritual.Both Arnav and Shyam stood up.

Navin:She is Neelima.

Neelima:Namaste

Arnav and shyam:Namaste

Navin:They have not accepted my request.

Neelima:We don't have children and the only hope in our life now is to be with Samantha at least for a few days.If you can do that for Navin,I would be grateful to you for the entire life.

Shyam and Arnav looked at each other.

Arnav:Contact me after two days.I'll give you an answer.

Navin and neelima left.

Shyam:Arnav, if he goes to the court, he will claim his right.

Arnav:I want to talk to Garima aunty and after that only I'll give an answer.Khushi's father also started to respond.Let me meet them.

Aman came searching for Arnav.

Aman:Where were you Arnav?

He continued:Why Arnav, you look tensed?

Arnav told every thing to Aman.

Aman:Oh..so he is here to meet his daughter.But Arnav,I don't trust him

Arnav:Me too.

Arnav started to enquire about Navin Sen.He already knew that Navin is one of the leading business men in the country.He got information through his friends that he is sucha fine gentle man that every one respects him in his native place.He and his wife do lot of charity work .

Arnav and Shyam met Garima the next day.

Garima was too shocked that she was going to faint.

Garima:I'll never allow that cheater to meet Khushi.He is a liar.He is here with some negative purpose.

Khushi:I don't want to meet him Arnav ji.I'm afraid of him.

Arnav went to hospital with Garima and met Shashi.He slowly started to respond to them through some sounds and actions.

Arnav thought better not to discuss the matter and left.

Two days after he informed Navin that Khushi and Garima have not given consent to him to meet them.

Arnav had a call that night.It was Ridhika.She was talking in a highly sexy tone .

Ridhika:Arnav, I want to see you.I want you, Arnav.

Arnav cut the call.She called again several times.

After some time Khushi called and asked.

Khushi:Arnav ji ,your phone was engaged .I was trying to contact you for a long time.

Arnav:Khushi...I want to tell you something...we will meet tomorrow in my office.

Khushi:What's it Arnav ji?

Arnav:Will tell you, tomorrow.

And the next day he met Khushi in his private room of his office and Arnav mentioned evrything regarding Ridhika to her.

Arnav:Khushi, I was not a saint before I met you but I'm not a womaniser.If I met you earlier I would not have involved with other women.I had some girl friends,but I was not physically involved with all except one or two.Ridhika and me had no physical relation.I thought that I was crazily in love with her.It was simply an infatuation of adolescent age.

They were sitting together in a sofa.After listening to everything Khushi hugged him and said:

Arnav ji..you need not explain all these to me.I know how much you love me.

She was in Arnav's arms and laid her head on his chest.

Arnav:Do you want to meet your father Mr.Sen?

Khushi:No...Arnav ji..Please don't spoil this moment.

I'm excited for all the rest of the rituals of our wedding.

Arnav:I'm excited for only one thing.

Khushi:What's that?

Arnav whispered in her ear:Our Suhaagraat.

Khushi was shy and pushed him away and stood up.Arnav caressed her neck with his fingers which made her hug him.His mobile rang.

It was Aakash.

Aakash:Bhai, Khushi's pappa spoke a few words.

Arnav:Good news,Aakash.Khushi is with me.I'll tell her.

Aakash:Bhai, we have completed the invitation for Aman Bhai's wedding.All the arrangements are over.

Arnav:Good.

There was only one week for Aman's wedding and ten days more for Khushi's mehendi.

Arnav:Khushi..let us go to hospital.Your pappa began to speak.

Khushi burst into tears and hugged him.

Shashi Gupta showed a shocked expression when he saw Arnav.But Garima slowly made him understand the situation.It took nearly three to four days to convince him.Still he was not aware of Navin's entry.

Arnav was trying to see what was written in her palm with Mehendi.She was behaving naughty by covering her palms with dupatta.Anjali was watching this.

Anjali came and asked :Khushi, let me see your hands.

Arnav slowly came near Khushi.But Nani's voice stopped him.

Nani:Chote, You can't see what is written in her hands before wedding.

Arnav was annoyed.khushi smiled mischievously.

A totally annoyed Arnav went to sleep that night.Khushi called him.But he didn't answer at first.

She gave him a message which he couln't resist.

"Arnav ...pick up the call and give me a ...she showed the sign of a kiss.
