"Uff ho Arnav ji... When will you stop following me around? Don't you have better work?"
"Who said I am following you?"
"Then who are you following now?"
"I am following my wife. You carry on with your work."
"Arrggh... You you..."
"Haan main main..."
"Laad governor..."
"I love you."
With that Khushi turned away from him not before him a look of exasperation. As soon as she turned away from him, she grinned. She loved this Arnav. Not that she didn't like his angry brooding man avatar. This Arnav ji was more fun. Before Arnav could tease further, two small frames came running towards them.
"Jiju jiju" Karan and Asha exclaimed trying to catch Arnav's attention. Karan reached him first and Arnav caught hold of him and lifted him above his head. The air filled with the sweet sound of Karan's giggles.
"Didi" Asha pouted not receiving the first greeting from Arnav.
Arnav laughed and took Asha in his arms tossing and catching her with ease. Khushi looked at Arnav mesmerized. For someone who declared that he hated children, he seemed to have a way with them. He wanted to share many a moments like this with Arnav but not with Sarita's and Suraj's children but with one their own. With that rose a longing in Khushi to hold a little boy who looked exactly like her Arnav ji.
Asha snuggled closer to him as Arnav held her in his arms.
"Khushi how is Suraj?"
"He is fine now Arnav ji. Sarita said he will be out of the hospital in a week."
"That's good. If you or Sarita need anything just let me know."
When Khushi remained mute to that statement, Arnav added, "Please Khushi.", not understanding her silence.
Arnav played with the kids for some time, helped them with their home works and helped Khushi to put them to bed.
Khushi had accepted him in her heart. She craved to call him hers and she was in her heart his. They had danced around this so many times. Khushi knew well that he wanted her to come to him on her own and that he did not want to force her into making a decision. But with him, the decision had never been hard to make, for if Arnav Singh Raizada considered someone as his, they were his no matter what. She needed to talk to him today.
Arnav was sitting on the cot outside. She went and sat beside him. He looked at her once and turned his gaze to the stars again.
"Will you promise Arnav ji?"
"Yes Khushi I promise." She looked at him as if he had grown two heads.
"You did not even ask what I wanted. And you promised?"
"If you still have this doubt, then I guess I did not do a good job of convincing you of my love."
"That's not it Arnav ji."
"It does seem so Khushi. You are still hesitant to tell me what you want. And I accept Khushi I am frustrated with it. But you know that I won't force you to do anything that you don't want to. I will wait till you love me again Khushi."
"Love has never been the problem Arnav ji."
Arnav looked at her silently for a minute.
"Then I will wait for you to trust me Khushi. Trust me with your heart."
"Trust is also not an issue now Arnav ji. Did you ever consider maybe you just have to ask what I want?"
Arnav was frustrated. What did she want from him now?
"What do you want me to do Khushi? I will do whatever you ask me to."
Khushi looked at him with a serious look on her face.
"I want you to leave to Shantivan tomorrow morning Arnav ji."
With that, Arnav's world came crashing around him. He did not expect this from her. If he had known this would be her answer, he would never have asked her that damned question. He was content to stay by her side even as just a friend. But the past few weeks, she had had been different. She had told with him her inner most fears. She had shared a part of her that she had not shared with anyone. Of that he was sure. But then what had happened now that she want him gone?
"Khushi..." her name came out of his lips in a strangled whisper.
"Yes Arnav ji. You heard me right."
"I will Khushi. If that is what you want."
"I never knew it was so easy to make you do what I wish." He looked up at her teasing tone and the mischievous glint in her eyes. Had he been in his senses, he would have known that she was just pulling his leg. But the pain in his heart at her words clouded his eyes. he nodded once at her and started back toward the house.
"I am not finished Arnav ji. I want you to leave tomorrow morning. You see the baarat cannot start from here and end here."
She grinned at his perplexed face and waited for her words to sink in.
And when it did, she was in Arnav's arms, crushed in a very tight embrace. He let her stand on her feet but holding her within his arms.
"You know Khushi, you are the most infuriating female I have met." He looked at her fondly.
"That I am." She grinned at him, the pure joy of being with each other reflecting in their faces.
"I love you Khushi."
"Hum bhi aapse I love you dammit." They laughed remembering another day when she had said these same words.
"Shall we seal this deal wifey?"
"Let's do that husband"
With that Arnav's lips descended on hers to seal the deal of their lifetime with their parents and Khushi's Devi Maiyaa as witness.
