You guys are having an interesting discussion.
Weird, incoherent, staccato, disjointed, irrelevant, inconsequential, illogical things have to be there in hindi soaps, otherwise TRP audience will not like it. This is the trend. Good thing is the trend started to break gradually. There are some good shows are making, like ajeeb dastan hai ye, nisha aur uski cousin, Laut ao trisha etc. Comparing to other daily soaps IPK was less faulty. Even, there are 100 flaws in american daily soaps. we can't expect all the sensible and good stuff from creatives everyday. But something can be ignored, but something can't. Like ASR going with his family to watch a movie with picnic basket! Khushi who was quite smart, couldn't apply lipstick properly and so many more.
Sanaya actually is an outstanding actress, she made all the rubbish lovable to us. Whatever the cvs gave she did with perfection.
Poor wardrobe was a trend in IPK. Especaillay ASR and Khushi's wardrobe. Several times we sent them petition to give Khushi proper wardrobe. But they still didn't change their designer who I think was a kid's clothe's designer. cause all of Khushi's rainbow suits were so kiddish looking! But I am fida of Sanaya's beauty. Make up or without make up, in any clothes even in potato sack or in a clown suit she looks ethereal. As much as I devour ASR's beauty that much I devoured Khsuhi's beauty. For me she is the most beautiful girl of India, no current bollywood actress can't come in front of her. OK that is completely my view, it's not necessary that everybody has to love the way I love Sanaya.
But whatever we say, IPK is still the best. There was so many flaws in IPK, but still we can't live without it strange!

Hi all,

This is JJ. I know a few of you already (Ria,BHAVI, Horizon). For the others
I loved Barun as ASR and Sanaya as Khushi. But it is another fact that I love RR more. But for this discussion I hope it does not matter

Went through a few of the posts here. Since you all seem to be okay with criticism about IPK I am being bold enough to ask this question.

Could you all accept the fact that a Harvard returned guy saw a "scene" in the terrace and believed it enough to go through a hate wedding and to also not inform her why she is punished ? And made her sleep in the cold the first night ? And maybe many nights (do not remember) No rotten tomatoes please. Just a question

Here is to my bakwas poetry... 😆

on a serious note, I do think that's the supreme quality of IPK, the script, characters, enacting, music.. that the so called many jaded cynical middle aged working women (me one among them) who were never into desi soaps are vortexed into this love story from all corners of globe. To immensely like something one among the many you watch is one thing.. but to pull people into stuff that they thoroughly written off and never really cared is altogether another...

that's why IPK is a trendsetter.. a phenomenon...
oh well.. again you are talking to a... an IPK jaded..yes yes...
hormonal aunty...😆
Ria, yes, that term was coined by hedge saab.. you didn't read his (in) famous letter?

What a poetry Induji! not backwas at all!

I don't agree that we don't have good singers nowadays. We actually have more versatile singers. And there are various kinds of music also are making, like classical blend with modern contemporary, raga with retro mix, alternative, rock with indian classic or even good peppy songs.
Indian music is rich in every era.
I'm an absolute Arijit lover.
Shafqat Amaant ali , Rahat Fateh Ali Khan are my most favorite singer of all time.
Kartik, Pappon, shreeram, Mohit Chauhan, Nikhil Paul George, Kunal Ganjawala,Zubeen and some more. i can't remember the name right now. But they are absolutely brilliant.
Sonu is a good singer. But his improvisation and vibrato sometimes spoils the song.
From old singer I love Udit Narayan's romantic voice a lot.

@Horizon
thanks for reading my 301
I'm glad that you you enjoyed.
You are right, Anjali always took Arnav in the mandir. Though he never performed pooja but he was always present there. How can I forget so many time the most passionate, romantic starring happened in the mandir and teej was the best among those.
I am too possessive about ASR-Khushi. that's why I can't stand anybody touch them. You can see I'm a bit narrow minded person in this case. But I accepted it. When La used to come close to ASR, I used to shut my eyes. You know I'm a bit pagal too.
Sanaya is a brilliant actress, I just love her.

Thode badmash is my all time favorite song and Shy made a beautiful VM. The wordings actually suited more for ASR-Khushi than the original story.
Like laal ishq song. I loved it with Arnav and Khushi more than the original version.

the entire bring la home thing came about thanks to sp's demand that the scene be moved to rm, no more office track... or so i heard. and so the devising of la's move to rm... khushi there to train her. it's not as if the writers had decided all along to show a live in situation. and then to save the trp... nani is used to make sure they stay in separate bedrooms.

i understand tv writing means shifting according to channel and trp demands, but then do not pretend otherwise. and certainly don't call your audience names.

truth is i watched mainly for barun. a lot for the pyaar, the chemistry. and almost every actor was good, so they made even silly stuff work.

While Khushi became unrecognizable I also have a tough time watching the too mellow and tired looking ASR. Where was that edge and impatience? keen, perceptive he used to be.. now he had no idea his wife was upset about Sheetal. He make jalebis for his wife and make a mess of it? definitely not.. if asr makes jalebis he will be good at even that, nothing will burn or be out of place. And also the kind of man he was he would not be a klutz in kitchen. When his wife said she would starve as she had to lose weight he didn't stay shut up and eat, atleast not in his forthright blunt but oh so damn caring way, instead he was always indulgent watching his "crazy but cute wife" and having to be proud of all the antics too.

ASR should be rude or aloof or drop dead gorgeous or angry or tender.. grown up with a grown woman.. something childish just with her, but even that play would have chemistry oozing.. he shouldn't just be normal.. and when the story tried to take away that extraordinary undefinable panache from ASR something just went missing. The actor was inherently ASR, but even he could have given us so much more, maybe even wanted to continue give the character more, had everyone remained true to ASR.

Hi JJ.. always nice to see new people on the thread..

Yes we all get too vocal when the show gets messed with.. haha after all farak padta hai lots dammit..

the forced wedding was where the story started to get inconsistent. We have spoken of this often in our posts, but for the terrace scene I do think ASR wasn't 'thinking'. It was too much of a shock. Too painful. Another betrayal, as dark as the one many years ago.

Even then he did want to go find Khushi and also tell Anjali, but fate had other plans.

And this ASR was already bound to the girl with her jalebis and sanka and smiles.. and so to save di from pain the answer was to marry Khushi. makes no sense.. which is why it feels like ASR. because when he loves it is intense and deep and boundless. sahi galat ka koi matlab nahi.. the pain was unberable, the hurt even more so. Angar helplessness.. and from it came fury.. he would not give in.. this man was impulsive since before, now he was a broken lover and worried brother as well.

Who had time to think?

No.. he would drag her to a temple.. marry her.. say things to hurt her.. and torment himself more by watching her shivering crying in the cold.. we do crazy things in love.. somehow I feel that uncontrolled instinct is what makes love exciting .. a feeling that consumes us.. and when it does decide to, the same feeling can overwhelm us with happiness and positivity and peace..

haha its been long since I got a chance to be here so please forgive the outpour of words.. and hope you come often..

Thanks aarwen. Very well written. Yeah one part I can agree. ASR had lot of fury in him that day. And maybe that drove him to get wedded in a hurry. But still...making her sleep outside in the cold nights..Anyway 😆

People do crazy things in love. That I agree. And it makes love interesting. Didn't the same ASR dance to a song and propose in his sangeet to please Khushi ?

Hey JJ welcome to the gang dude, such a delight to see you here. I remember you had raised this point in the CC too, I had been in a particularly playful mood then and had joked about it being the Dil and Dimaag divide. 😉

But I slightly differ in my take on this.

First and foremost, what is education for you? Is getting good grades in academics a criteria to decide how level headed, thoughtful, composed and pragmatic a person is when it comes to dealing with personal crisis?

Honestly, I don't find educated from Harvard and yet taking rash decisions in personal life ironic or illogical. You may do extremely well in academics, earn the highest degree from the most prestigious university, be a roaring success in your career but is that a testimony to "thou shalt not be gullible to folly"?
That you cannot make a wrong judgement based on your senses? That you cannot be impulsive, and never lose your rationale in face of adversity?

Lets take a general consideration of how we reach a decision.

Instant decisions even in business are often made based on immediate facts, past experiences, weighing the pros and cons.

In Arnav's predicament, it wasn't just witnessing his love in the arms of his sister's husband and hearing a portion of the conversation at the inopportune time, the unfortunate selection of words, "If you don't love her, then leave her."
But simultaneously, it's a cruel reminder of the stigma he's been carrying for half his life. That what had transpired between his parents, how it had killed the person he once was, and to what extent he had hardened himself, how much of a skeptic, untrusting, disbelieving a man he had become just to avoid being shattered again.
And just when he had let himself to feel a little vulnerable again, willed himself to trust someone with his heart, broken the shackles he had bound his heart in for past fourteen years, he's met with such a sight!

How can one expect a man to remain sane in such a situation. His trust with happiness was never a plenty, it was a very fragile thread, broken with a single jolt.

And then he's ASR. To him, his only means to sustain is to believe that he's some sort of invincible force. From his point of view, when his sister is in a delicate situation, when he cannot reveal to her the truth, and his judgement is clouded by the betrayal of past, what are the stakes in front of him?

Oh hell, he gets the girl he wants. If he burns in his hell, he'll make her burn with him. If she suffers, he suffers, they are together in this. And do you not think, ASR was one hell of a masochist. And that's a psychology, ain't got much to do with how brainy you are. It wasn't a stupid move at all, he took the best advantage of the situation, poor Khushi, she was made a scapegoat in this battle between Arnav and Shyam and Arnav's personal demons. Reference point, episode 192, last few minutes. Hell, I love that conversation between ASR and Daiyya ho.

😆 Sorry for the awfully long bhashan yara 😆 , hope I didn't bore you. Just my take. 😃

hey JJKKL, welcome to our thread. please do visit us frequently. we are not blind about our show. we do lot of criticism too, but our love for IPK is myriad.
Arween gave you a very nice explanation. I think our insightful analyst Horizon, Indy and ArshiHameasha also can give you more explanation about ASR's actions.
One thing I can say how astute is the person, nobody is beyond feelings, emotions or anger. What ASR did was did in the spur of the moment.
To understand ASR, You have to watch IPK from the very first episode more intricately.
I never liked ASR threw Khushi out from his room to let her sleep outside. But did you see how much he embroiled to hurt her. For him she was a characterless home wrecker, like the other woman who destroyed his family and compelled his parents to die.
May be it was not needed but needed also for the redemption track.
