Indi,
feels as if just came out of a meditation room..deep breath..
Very well laid out, lucid with nice symbolism scattered... and socially very relevant with the class divide in Lucknow and the street lechers...👏
I remember a chat with you and Chalhov long ago about the nawabi flavor of Lucknow.. how that early setting imparted a special tone to the entire story..
Agree with you on all counts, such meticulously crafted episode with attention to every fine detail yet very crisp and intelligent narration.
Loved what you said about Khushi, shashiji's upbringing, Sanaya being the khushi. special mention to those lines about the sixth sense when she looked up for her rajkumar..
Thanks much for that touch upon the fine details of Raju singh's music.. it really touched the right chord in all the ways.. Khushi and asr's bg music spoke as much as their characters did..
Enters the world's most flawed hero...😊
Barun is not all this tall, dark, brawny.. in fact he is none of it... yet he could make one feel that about asr...that entire aura and towering personality one could feel just with his body language and inert face.. it must be quite tough to be as stoic when 100 cameras are focusing on you...
It was interesting you said that intro scene to be mafia like.. it was quite like infact.. perhaps that's the reason why this episode was independently fulfilling as it has all the flavors ...I didn't realize about the dialogue writer of this epi.. thanks for that..
Nissar Parvez is THE director who gets the right elements into his characters.. and impregnates perfection onto the screen..no wonder what the initial few episodes established and achieved .. 100 or more of the last ones couldn't obliterate that magic and pulling us still here..
Also, very interesting what you said about his "insulting appraisal" of her face/ features..he almost did nothing wrong to hate her.. and did everything he should NOT be...did he succeed???
The finesse of episode 1 is astounding.. one can see the conglomeration of some very serious talents taking it to a different scale..The one line you said about just watching that asr bit and not coming back to IPK again I will extend to the entire episode.. and if one has to watch just this one episode and not hear these names again .. even then it would have left a mark of knowing these two protagonists already and their unison to be conspired.
Congratulations for finally writing this episode indi.
Ok, I seem to have written as much as you did..

Congratulations Indi di.. I feel like weeping after reading this.. which is not at all a bad sign trust me..
You did manage edits.. am very glad for that.. Payals edit was lovely.. and of course ASR.. and his eyes..
haha I did not find him good looking the first time you know. And I liked the word you used..embarrassing.. yes that is what it feels like sometimes watching people try to be 'cool' or the rich arrogant rude boy.

hai re nand kisore.. first dialogue .. have heard you mention that before.. something soothing.. that god was remembered at the very start of the show..

Like you said within seconds the character traits were firmly established.. I thought she spoke too much.. and felt I won't like her.. but episode 3 when we come to know it is jilebi she is making I fell irrevocably in love with Khushi..

Understatement.. another word you used that I have to agree too.. it is conspicuous in it complete absence in Indian shows.. IPK got loud too at times, still very less compared to other shows I feel. That intelligence, the not too in your face yet witty touching humour, real life like dialogues, and general interaction between people, even the music.. everything had subtlety and beauty.

Your thought on Shashi Gupta.. nice.. There is a movie isi life mein about a similar thing.. Finally when the father realizes that he shouldn't let his daughter marry someone asking for money he just sends her away from the mandap. No fuss. He keeps his voice low and stands firm. For Garima I remembering thinking that initially her character was not yet confirmed as positive or negative.. I guess they were experimenting to see whether she would be the stepmom or not. Glad she turned out the amma who gets to even tease bitwa.

The music does so much to enhance the show.. really all the tracks are different from what we expect to hear in daily dramas. kept it fresh. And the music when she falls into his arms.. the increasing tempo.. they didn't use it later on.. but it fit so wonderfully with two clashing souls and yet all the while on some parallel plane they were actually rejoicing having finally found each other.

Flawed hero ❤️.. for are men not flawed? and in this flaw lies the perfection of being magnificently human..

His look.. I could write a thesis on that.. But your words.. beautiful di.. I loved all the different way you described those eyes.. uff his look.. intense brooding and very young.. he did look different in the first few episodes.. untouched from the present, terribly scarred by the past.. I just wrote in my poem.. there was stillness yet an undeniable echoing scream.. the introduction scene for ASR.. also was lovely .. the way you captured and connected. And blog of production house bhere eet eej?

i want to go and cry dejectedly somewhere.. why couldn't we stick with this ASR. I know his face has to come alive and things have to soften..last scene on pride and prejudice seems to imply that Mr Darcy after marriage allowed his wife certain liberties which in general could not be taken. Why do I feel still for the outside world he pretty much must have remained the same,. but for ASR after this first episode itself hardly ever did this class return.. like Sohara keeps mentioning.. he was a tycoon.. why wasn't he treated that way.. only the actor in his inherent elegance kept the tycoon descending from the helicopter alive.

Their first meeting.. I have no words to describe.. your words were intense and transported me right there. How will anything ever measure upto this meeting?

They built a dream and we stepped right into it.. forever.. ensnared.. but in this dream world always I get the wings to fly..

I thought keeping with tradition would pick a few most favouritest lines.. all of it touched me Indi di.. Thank you for writing.. I savoured it all I could and did not want it too ever end..

a flow, a pulse, a course in it. and if i see the movement depicted in the episode, there were two people moving from two different points to the same place, it did seem to reflect a river rushing down its course, in anticipation, of what even the river has no idea... usually rivers flow toward the ocean... was it just chance that the protagonist's name meant... the ocean?

in that contrast with the expected, that unpredictable element was khushi given her distinctiveness, her specific self.

without even looking like he is surprised or bothered, he coolly holds out his arms and she lands in them.

ah, indu,

episode one.

thanks for that illuminating and heartfelt comment.

what you say in pink... yes, just see one episode and you will never forget... ever.

abs astute the comment that what they created in the early episodes, especially the ones with nissar parvez, not even a hundred starnge episodes later could mess with that effect, the sheer impact.

i have seen the first episode of geet... very nice eye for detail, plenty drama too, though not as compact and compelling an episode as this of course, nor this tightly written. no famous landing there 😆. but there were pigeons there too and flavour of the earth, a wealthy village family and its intricacies, a stranger comes calling... i think that too was nissar parvez.

this guy is so good. when i watch episode one, it's like the maker is one with his subject, there is no gap, no distance between them.

raju singh's other stuff i haven't heard much, but here, so spot on and inspired. to me that asr tune is comparable to the great bond theme, and actually gets my blood flowing faster and ears pounding even before second bar has started. lovely use of guitar riffs/twangs (are they caled that?) well whatever makes those sudden sinuous, heart thudding sounds.

yes, barun was a 5 feet nineish man with the stature of a giant... not perfect to look at really, voice not the expected baritone, but i can't even think once he lands and looks up at a sprawling hoary building.

thanks... i am rambling you may have noticed. we must chat again. bye.

Indiii! You really have such a way with words that I'm always always left stumped! I try to write a sane comment but unfortunately, I have a permanent writer's block 😛
Loved the way you so beautifully, and in so much detail, described the first episode. Together with the symbolism of sixth sense.
And not forgetting the BG music..Raju Singh does deserve an award. The tunes were interspersed with the scene in a very very subtle and apt way. ASR's tune, whenever I listen to it, sans watching the episode, is one that always gives me goosebumps and I can imagine ASR=Barun taking those huge strides of his with an air of authority in them or just towering over Khushi making himself clear about some or the other issue. (He's 5 ft Eleven, I think 😃)

As they say, first impression is the last impression, which I think is why I stuck to the show even during the last 30 odd episodes which make me cringe. ASR was not ASR anymore, but everytime I saw him, I remembered the class with which he descended in Lucknow, and the initial tycoon which we were given, and I bore with whatever was shown after re-marriage. And of course, to see Barun..Barun made it a whole lot easier on the eyes! ;)

Really, IPK was just pure magic. And the finesse of Episode 1 (thanks to Nissar Parvez) clearly paved way for a beautiful journey. It was so well executed. Every minute detail was exuding perfection.

Phew! Long comment! 😛

hi divya,

thanks so much. i tend to write... a lot. so am always glad if anyone decides to make their way through it, even if somewhat reeling.

thanks so much.

yes, this episode and the early asr and ipk, made us stay till the end... cringing, swearing feeling a little empty. but the man had descended from the helicopter, how to say no to him.

you are so abs right, barun made it easier... all that stuff after a point.

but even with him, the last episodes were such a challenge. how does something that starts like this, degenerate to that?

nissar parvez. i so wish he would do an ipk again, with the tallish man, the slim svelte girl and tan tan tan raju singh's unforgettable. today, that sound is more exciting than even my favourite tantanda tantanda... mr bond's theme
. 😆

is he five eleven? i can never figure out his height, but he just towers with or without the inches.

i am now feeling happy i went for that marathon on one... curiously satisfying. thank you so much for reading.
