Indus, i wrote in my previous post about loving punjabi Heer songs...the song you've posted above, from Heer Ranjha, is one of them... they are all called "Heer". And all Heers are set in this tune, the words more often than not, heart wrenching, soulful, painful, like the one above...sounds most amazing in male voices...Shaukat Ali from Pak...and Gurdas Mann in India are fantastic Heer singers!

And i don't know whether you've seen this particular film the song is from - RajKumar as Ranjha and Priya Rajvansh as Heer...it's very unique...the entire film is spoken in verses!

And your last few lines above are beautiful...IPK, through it's characters and expression, acquired a life of it's own...beyond it's makers and way beyond what a tv show or story is destined for... It reached out and entered all of us, i'm squished to pulp i'll tell you that, and very happily too.

IJ and Indi 😊

Indi that red one underlined is the voice of this message through this show , this small skit was just a promo.Thnx for the video ,yes I saw this and many more.Di ko chuna issko kehte hai...

Not only Heer, saasi punu , Laila Majnoon...are also in the same line but the beauty of Heer is ,it's connected to eternal crossed barrier which I explained in my previous post. The singers without much music with their sound has indeed created such a soulful melody that you just can't stop listening it and the more you hear , the more it becomes your thirst .

IJ , not only Shaukat, and my fav Gurdas Man, there is another name Iqbal Bahu.I just love his voice in Heer...There is another person , may be you know, Amrita Pritam, she born in Pakistan but after Partition moved to New Delhi , she wrote so much about Heer and especially Waris Shah.worth reading. Her poem"Ajj Akhan Waris Shah Nun.."[today I wish I could ask Waris SHah] is something...cool cool stuff , just like my fav Rabindranauth ,all these are my fav to read whenever time permits.

Besides This Baba Fareed, Suchel Sarmast,Shiv Kumar Batalvi, and Bulleh Shah is also in the same line as I told you I am into this a lot.

You are so so right, IPK hit that target as I mentioned before , why he didn't need any explanation and she didn't because that materialistic barrier was broken in between em where they could feel , see, and talk from miles away without any boundary and that was the reason to show , otherwise this was not Sci fi show...that was the message in a new era to convey which most of the ppl just felt but couldn't grasp it.You need to see from your inner eye.

Thnx ladies for such a delving discussion. After a long time I really enjoyed this.Sorry If i made you bored...

Indi 😊

Thnx for my two cents but that's how I feel it from my heart and not now it's been years .I know a lot of ppl think with age it comes and makes you see things in a different perspective but I started these very early age.No clue why? Though

IJ 👏

I am in this Sufiana thing a lot.I love Waris Shah and his version of explaining ISHQ .Ishq makes you forget this world and anything associated with it.All the things which distract you from your main motive, from your heart , from your "sheh rag" where HE is closer than ever and listens to you is indeed something...that goes by anything .I said so many times I hate conservative thinking and things associated with it as ppl use religion as a blanket but many many things make my belief strong by its existence and this is one of them. How beautifully it threads into these lives that they don't care anything else but their own existence for each other as "God has mad human to worship him" meaning always seeks him in any state .How world has manipulated this small thing.

Thnx Janlaiwa...long time

Lovely thoughts, AJ! I know it's been a long time since we got together for a jam session...i do miss very much but work is at a critical juncture...and i know you've been busy too.

"Sheh Rag", AJ, the Bhagavad Gita, as i'm sure you know, interprets it too in it's own way..."atman" is where HE (or indeed SHE, whatever one's individual interpretation of the supreme may be!) is closest...But the sufiyana thinking for me is THE most liberal, liberated way of feeling life and love. And you're so right, we are the mess makers, not these age old beauties...we manipulate and politicise everything under the sun, till there's no room to breathe even.

IPK, in it's own unique way, takes us to these beauties, these striking, pulsating, all embracing thoughts, that bind us together. All heart and freedom to feel...rather than pure intellect and didactic talk... it touches me, and us, cos it understands human frailty, and human strength, no matter what our outer lives may be...Arnav and Khushi, and i know i've said this before, are parts of me, always have been. Seeing them on a laptop screen dealing with stuff so full of truth...with ghams and with khushis...with pareshaanis and problems...and with inner personal turmoil...in a real non plastic way...is fascinating...and in strange ways, very inspiring. Add to that the beauty of the boy and the magic he shares with his girl. Aah ha ha. Anand hi anand 😆.

IJ 🤗

Language is not the barrier for LOVE...again any barrier has no meaning in this state.Take any holy book, every book gives you same basic rules to follow...there is not a single book tells you to go either way.But how we humans are taking it and following it and even manipulating it, that's something.
Soul needs it's FOOD just like material body which we fill with relish and different colorful dishes yet forgetting, it's the soul at the end is going to be facing all...do we have enough for further life with soul and that's what everyone is forgetting...

OK that red underlined ,there you go...you said it in this perspective...God doesn't want iu to leave the world, He wants u to face it and still follow it and that is the FOOD of your soul because it makes you KUNDAN while you don't shake even in the worst and still keep your FAITH ...That's what Khushi 's motto was...and the boy was just Following her making him above and beyond anything...indeed Anand..peace within and he found it in this path...

Happy Lohri by the way!

Chetan Anand - too good...Haqeeqat is my mother's favorite film...waxing eloquent she has been for as long as i can remember. And Hanste Zakhm has that gorgeous sensuous song...Tum jo mil gaye ho...didn't you post it on Chalhov's birthday thread? Think you did! The Anands (only in my humblest opinion of course 😆), were a fine lot...one of the finest perhaps as a film-fam...sad they never got as much long term cache' as some of the others... maybe cos the talent didn't trickle down to the next gen? I don't know. And Goldy Anand...he was special as well, wasn't he?

I love the idea of S D and Heer. The boatman is synonymous with rockstar for me...all thanks to those amazing open-voiced outdoorsy S D compositions... a self possessed sufi, that boatman always in my head...passion bathed in melancholy...

My all time SD favorites are Sujata and Bandini but speaking of the Anands and The main man Burman, another gem comes to mind, one that is very very special to me...now who's "rambling' 😳😆😳

A third rambler ...indi ,our industry had gems...and indeed the goldy and old era has landmarks within...new ones like our boy and girl can do some serious damage if they could get some chance.Love Hanste Zakhum..and yes the sone Issk you mentioned is the best of all...koi Shaq. But now I am not into much as there is something missing for me to watch.

Ok SD Burman and his melodies including Aaradhna and Talaash at the top you mentioned and many many more...

akad,

i certainly wouldn't be here if it weren't barun doing asr. he made asr the man he became, the madness he became. i totally agree with you.

if barun left the show and they continued, truth of the matter is, i would stop watching instantly. there is an understanding of character, a giving to the make believe, a shattering of all distance between barun and asr, that elevates everything to a plane that can only be felt and never really be explained entirely in words.

i write reams and then realise, i have not said what i really wanted to maybe because there are no words for such a feeling.

so i am with you a hundred per cent on that belief. 😳

issk, faiqa,
ipk had so much love in it... even that family love aspect. my mom was caled ratna... your chatting takes me back to her and her lub for gana of all kinds.

all this talk of the beautiful heers and sachin deb and all that, i had to post for you the first sd song i fell for as a kid, introduced by my mother of course to us heathens, 😆 and we used to all sing it with that nasal twang of his (nasty kids us)... later just loved the cool different voice.
it was a bengali number from an album full of beauties...

it went rongila rongila rongila re... amare chhadiya re bondhu koi gela re.

colurful one oh colourful one, where have you gone leaving me alone.

colloquial language, and a freedom in it.

amrita pritam... i look for her work at times and also ismat chugtai's long back, heard an interview with her where i am pretty sure she mentioned the concept of a fourth room in the house. chautha kamra... a space for the woman. she was a feminist in the way i understand the term i think... and had this love for sahir ludhianvi which finds mention in many accounts of him as also her. interesting smart beautiful woman with powerful thoughts...
