Mehreen ,Thnx for reading my long bak bak but you took me some where and I spent almost whole day on it.JUst love delving into things whenever time permits me.Like your bringing pearls in a string as first he straight it before he puts around her neck.Yes he will be straightening things around em and especially her.😊
ArshiH👏

Lovely ray or chain moments which indeed completes them as one, one circle.Started from Pearls and has no ending because he is giving all those scattered round pearls in a string around her neck ,showing her , giving her HAQ to intrude his dreams and casts that HAQ on her in the same manner.
He is getting suffocated in his life without her.She is close to him and that is another torture to be away from her as well as not to be close to her.Same is with her.Fire within , taking your words yes is burning them to come out as pure as could be.

This exploration is explored really well.

heer ranjha is so rich in subtext... a lot delivered without conscious thought i bet... it keeps revealing itself and getting read. thanks, so much faiqa.

Thanks for this, guys! Love that same line in pink above, AJ. Does things to me, that thought. Looking at oneself through that one other's eyes...what a magical place to be in!

Heer Ranjha in that way was like a soulful other world that came out of nowhere for Arnav and Khushi...throbbing and gleaming it came, that moment, and spoke truths so carefully camouflaged all along. And being able to see the other, all worldly role-playing stripped off...and the innards turned out...performances and performers both blurred...just the right amount of reveal...perfect perfect perfect.

English Translation:

Repeating the name of Ranjha

I have become Ranjha myself.
O call me you all "Dhido-Ranjha,"
let no one call me Heer .
Ranjha is in me, I am in Ranjha,
no other thought exists in my mind.
I am not, He alone is.
He alone is amusing himself.

There've been many renditions and many versions, of it. Waris Shah was the original writer of Heer Ranjha. Dhido, by the way, was Ranjha's first name...Ranjha is his surname.

Thanks for bringing this here, AJ. I've always had a special thing for every Punjabi "Heer" song i've heard...and i'm really happy we're chatting about that too, among other things gorgeous 😊 Love the fact that everything that has meaning in our lives finds it's way to this thread...it's amazing.

whenever i hear "heer ranjha" or even "heer" this very punjabi, slightly sad tune plays in my head. must be from the days back in delhi... okay off to youtube and here it is... a movie song written by kaifi azmi. music by madan mohan. chetan anand's heer ranjha made in 1971 (i think after googling a lot)... i was 11. song stays filed away in the memory bank... say the words and it comes wailing from wherever it stays. strange thing the mind.

i love the lines

ranjha in me, i in ranjha
no other thought i have

though i am neither punjabi, nor understand the language, heer ranjha, the names themselves suggested something powerful always. i heard it as one of the many love stories where people die... but somehow heer was more mysterious, compelling... must have been that song.

thanks my punjabi ladkis for this lovely session. love as search for the eternal... i often felt that's what ipk understood and said too. the eternal doesn't demand that you do pooja the same way, dress the same style, belong to the same social strata or mindset... we do. and such measured and thought through "love" never makes it all the way there...

Indus, i wrote in my previous post about loving punjabi Heer songs...the song you've posted above, from Heer Ranjha, is one of them... they are all called "Heer". And all Heers are set in this tune, the words more often than not, heart wrenching, soulful, painful, like the one above...sounds most amazing in male voices...Shaukat Ali from Pak...and Gurdas Mann in India are fantastic Heer singers!

And i don't know whether you've seen this particular film the song is from - RajKumar as Ranjha and Priya Rajvansh as Heer...it's very unique...the entire film is spoken in verses!

And your last few lines above are beautiful...IPK, through it's characters and expression, acquired a life of it's own...beyond it's makers and way beyond what a tv show or story is destined for... It reached out and entered all of us, i'm squished to pulp i'll tell you that, and very happily too.

Thnx for my two cents but that's how I feel it from my heart and not now it's been years .I know a lot of ppl think with age it comes and makes you see things in a different perspective but I started these very early age.No clue why? Though

IJ 👏

I am in this Sufiana thing a lot.I love Waris Shah and his version of explaining ISHQ .Ishq makes you forget this world and anything associated with it.All the things which distract you from your main motive, from your heart , from your "sheh rag" where HE is closer than ever and listens to you is indeed something...that goes by anything .I said so many times I hate conservative thinking and things associated with it as ppl use religion as a blanket but many many things make my belief strong by its existence and this is one of them. How beautifully it threads into these lives that they don't care anything else but their own existence for each other as "God has mad human to worship him" meaning always seeks him in any state .How world has manipulated this small thing.

Thnx Janlaiwa...long time

Lovely thoughts, AJ! I know it's been a long time since we got together for a jam session...i do miss very much but work is at a critical juncture...and i know you've been busy too.

"Sheh Rag", AJ, the Bhagavad Gita, as i'm sure you know, interprets it too in it's own way..."atman" is where HE (or indeed SHE, whatever one's individual interpretation of the supreme may be!) is closest...But the sufiyana thinking for me is THE most liberal, liberated way of feeling life and love. And you're so right, we are the mess makers, not these age old beauties...we manipulate and politicise everything under the sun, till there's no room to breathe even.

IPK, in it's own unique way, takes us to these beauties, these striking, pulsating, all embracing thoughts, that bind us together. All heart and freedom to feel...rather than pure intellect and didactic talk... it touches me, and us, cos it understands human frailty, and human strength, no matter what our outer lives may be...Arnav and Khushi, and i know i've said this before, are parts of me, always have been. Seeing them on a laptop screen dealing with stuff so full of truth...with ghams and with khushis...with pareshaanis and problems...and with inner personal turmoil...in a real non plastic way...is fascinating...and in strange ways, very inspiring. Add to that the beauty of the boy and the magic he shares with his girl. Aah ha ha. Anand hi anand 😆.

issk,

ah so it's called a heer. how poignant. haven't seen the film, just bits of it on tv as a kid. chetan anand made interesting movies usually. priya rajvansh was someone's girl friend (his?)... another lovely movie with her and neph navin nischol... hanste zakhm. something tragic and lyrical is all i recall... again it's kaifi azmi and madan mohan. what treasures hindi films had. imagine a movie with our ladka ladki and these artists... death hui gawa.

bombay film industry had major punjabi/north west frontier and bengali sensibilities in it, didn't it? i wonder if sachin deb could have composed a heer... ore majhi ore majhi, straight from the bhatiayali and baul sounds of bengal... lots of sufiyana things to those too. and bhatiali also speaks of love and sometimes transcends the barrier and it becomes a seeking for the eternal.

why am i rambling?

issk, faiqa, all your fault.

Wow, Issk, Faiqa, Indi, so much of Heer Ranjha talk. So much info, Some I know, most I don't. Thank you my dear friends. I am gonna lap all up. 😳
Editing: All this Heer Ranjha talk also reminds me of this song from Alag Alag, 'Kagaz kalam ... '. I love the song, though not so much the picturisation. Let me look for the video meanwhile.
Editing again: Found it. 😃
