Stealing some thoughts from Ami's post.Indeed it is a challenge over here to introduce our kids the same rituals and fun we used to have.Honestly that is the biggest reason I hate these special occasions and days ,because these days make me so restless and at guilt. No matter how much I tried "pat Baat woh Nahin Bani" ...not same at all...

Kids do things what I ask them or what I trained them but not same , not even close. It hurts sometimes. But again world has been closed and narrowed to the point where these celebrations have lost their meanings.

Sorry just got into these feelings stuff.

Arshi, thanks for those thoughts. You know woh baat kabhi bhi nahi hogi, becos even we don't feel the same about these festivals anymore after all these years, how can we expect our kids, born and brought up here to feel that? Habitat is very important, and we changed that, so can't expect the tender plants to bear identical flowers and fruits of the earlier habitat. My try would only be to introduce the flavor to them to the best of my expertise, after that it would be their interest and intent. I see my son is very much into music, I didn't have to try hard for it. If they find it really interesting, I am sure they will follow the suit. So, please don't feel bad or it. Becos as long as they enjoy what they do, and its not harmful to any one and in their best interest, it should be fine.
Ofcourse the definition of celebrations or even mourning changed leaps and bounds .Remember in the good old days, there used to 3 day state mourning and everything used to come to stand still when some state official passes away, On Jan 30th there used to be a 2 min siren for silence in the schools, I wonder if that still happens.. may be not.. people get killed, atrocities happen .. but that is all only for a 30 min dinner table news in the evening, and every one would be worried only about reaching work on time next morning.. can't get any more practical!! Even all the festivities look more for marketing than anything else. some times I wonder what requires to be done to quell this chaos for a sec and retrospect what needs be done and is being done...
Can't get any more cynical .. is it? Me and my ASR!!

The cricket test match started today between India and West Indies. It is being played in Kolkata. S. Ganguly is there in the commentary team. What are the chances that BS might make a visit anytime during the 5 day match?

Wiwy, our khaas khabri, any ideas?

Durga

I was also thinking the same thing on the 1 day last match on Saturday when we were discussing one day and test matches and thinking the test match is in Kolkatta will Barun go there or some scene shoot outside the stadium as lot of crowd will be there good scene for a cricket agent

Horizon Virat Kohli is this zamana guy as the earlier cricketers are slowly retiring one by one

Arshi, Horizon

Good discussion I was telling my mom that whether my son will follow all the things I do on festivals and year by year I also feel that maybe next year I cant do this its really back breaking but somehow do every year so far. No doubt my mother was upset when I spoke my thoughts aloud. and find similar posts here.

sohara, lovely take.

so detailed and intense... your feelings accentuating the ordeal.

my comments in blue on the text.

about the acting which you refer to above in red, my opinion, no one even comes close to barun. sanaya is brilliant in parts, but sometimes very good, not all the way to brilliant. but barun, almost every scene just too good. okay, till 186, there has been only one or may be two places where i've felt he could have pushed it a bit or was a little out of it. it's in the quality of his performance i feel... he just takes it somewhere else... he becomes the character... so almost anything seems natural. not an actor acting. i hope he never loses this qualit
y.

i do however like utkarsha naik and feel she is really talented and jayshree t was a lovely nani ji... a lot of nuance in her acting, again most natural. barun and jayshree complimented each other perfectly.

i never found akshay dogra to be a strong actor, but he seemed rather sweet and at times interpreted akash nicely... a certain lovely gentleness with a touch of the goofy... but to grow and flesh t a character you need to give it more...my feeling, not the only way to look at it no doubt.

Barging in.. hope you guys don't mind. I thought Barun took a little bit, a couple of months to sink his teeth into ASR. not all the scenes but a few. I thought he would have done those differently after his later on mastery. Some times I even debated, if I had a choice, if I would like those early scenes remade with the master artist he was later on. But then, a few things shouldn't be retouched! Sanaya was spot on from day 1 esp her body language or a small town girl. Yes actors who do good comedy must be good. some times her expressions, esp post hate marriage, left wanting.. but unlike ASR, Khushi is not an emotionally intense person and hers wont be as appealing in that dept.
AKshay, unlike Barun or Karan, is not a hero material surely (pardon me Akshay), but then Akash is one of the most weak to NO character role, he didn't get any chance to display his skills. Payal got such great scope and screen space initially, Akash cant even be compared as the other lead's sibling. I watched him very briefly in a couple of other shows, post IPK, where he got negative roles, and he did a very good job. During the kidnapping, some guessed Akash to be the kidnapper! Altho I vehemently opposed that idea on moral grounds that time, that actually could have added some grey shades to him and a chance for Akshay to act and saving us from some over dramatization of Shyam who from an accidental two timer turned into a some one else!

ASR sure did mistake by trusting that snake and kept him in his house. He should eradicate him without thinking of Anjali. But Anjali was his weak point. After losing his parents she was his world. Later Khushi obviously. And you said it right that, Anjali was loser for sure. Poor woman! I wish if the cvs would've brought a nice loving guy for her in the show! Hopefully in season-2.😃

Can't agree more of what you said about Barun's acting. I love Sanaya's acting too. specially her comic timing is superb. And you know a successful comedian is apparently a good actor. Even in intense scene. she never goes over the top. Nani and mami's role was not complex, like ASR and Khsuhi. But they did justified their character.

Most interesting thing is, I've watched some episodes of Madhubala. Gosh how my nanijaan even compared Vivian with Barun. he is not a good actor at all and doesn't come a bit close to our Barun. But sigh he and KSG has been considering the best actors and getting all the awards.!😭 Even dhrashti is not as good as Sanaya. And I didn't like their high pitched talk during intense scene, what i never saw in Barun and Sanaya's acting. It may sounds irrelevant, but have to say that IPK's script is far standard than Madhubala or any other recent serials i watched. really after watching IPK and Barun and Sanaya's awesome jodi, it's impossible to hook to another show.

sohara,

you are so right about sanaya and comedy. one of the rare indian actresses who can do comedy, and do it with such finesse. i used to think of tina fey at times while watching, or of phoebe from friends. she can also be a brilliant understated actor with a wide range if she wishes, i have often felt her hunger for her profession may not be as sharp as barun's has become over time. and while i do think she was fabulous often in ipk, somehow, and this could be to do with the writing too, barun took me to the moment more intensely, i felt one with the character at times. it was an uncanny feeling.

the only time it as happened to me before is when i saw kramer vs kramer and left the hall feeling terrible for dustin hoffman, thinking i am him.

barun reaches my inner something... more than i've ever known anyone to. a funny feeling, have to say it's most enjoyable.

OK, Durga, as I run through the pages and find many interesting convos on the hate marriage I want to comment up on, but I will start with this lighter one.:)

There was this one of my most fav historical novels "Arya Chanakya" from years ago, towards the end Chanakya orders the king's aides to jump into the sea as a way to learn swimming which was his style of teaching to his disciples, and some one gets astonished "what? even the king's aides are your disciples"??(meaning Chanakya wont spare even them)..:)
So now even Cricket field is not spared is it??:) Before IPK, cricket used to be my obsession, but lately some one has to tell me that there is a match going on and every one seem to talk about a certain player and I have to ask "Virat who??" as he is some one prospered in the last 2 years when I was (am) in living in a different world!
Coming to your point, there is every chance for that becos he is shooting for a cricket based movie in the same town, more over this is his (mine too) fav Sachin's last series!

Thanks for the Chanakya story, Horizon. I do continue to watch cricket, although I'm not obsessed with it. But my husband is, with cricket and other sports as well. So automatically I too stay connected to it. Ya, Virat is all over. The latest one is Rohit Sharma, who just made a double century in the last match.
Yes, I do feel he would come. Only when is the question. I want to see if he would be shown on the big screen at the stadium there, the reaction of the audience and what the commentators would say about him, if at all that happens. Maybe, he will visit during the weekend, i.e. provided the match doesn't get over by then. Or maybe he may come and go incognito.

Really? I must have missed that discussion. Ya, Mitali Ghosh must be taking the opportunity of these matches and must be shooting somewhere around.
You know, about Sachin's retirement, while some are sad, there are some who are heaving a sigh of relief that finally he's made his decision to leave to make space for some young blood. I was just thinking, even after achieving so much, there will always be people who will continue criticising no matter what. Really, in such cases, got to listen to your heart and carry on instead of getting bothered about criticisms.

hi horizon,

saw your note on acting. i am one of those very few who liked barun from the beginning. the look at sheesh mahal after getting down from the chopper, the low angle shot when he gets up and faces chacha ji, the eyes particularly, the slightly breathless delivery of the zameer dialogue... the baiting of chacha ji... the eyes turning to look at her that first time, the look on his face when he snapped the dori, the loping walk with inert eyes into mazar, the dead cold "phenk do", they all thrill me even now... also the ramp bit.

but yes in a couple of places, a not well groomed colloquial hindi... that sort of i did notice once in a way.

uff, the little walk around his desk in shiny brown pants when di drops in with arati plate inquisitive about the girl.

but i know many people, who like you, felt something was missing, subjective i guess.

while asr's character came with a dark intensity i know many actors might have botched it and not felt asr enough to deliver.

khushi starts out a little lunatic and chirpy, but as was clear from the sorry scene and later shayad yeh nadani hum kar baithe... there was scope to enter her fears and more intense side but writers chose to use her as a means to explore asr. something vital got lost... i guess sanaya had that burden to bear. she was excellent in her role and her voice and sense of comedy set her apart..but i must say she rarely reached me the way barun did... again subjective i guess.
