They are actually brilliant. But for me far too upsetting. I like happy endings!

Sorry Bim... for the previous rubbish reply, Im rushed

All in all an actors not only needs to be great actors, but need many other things, like charisma to be success-full...something I feel Barun doesn't have. But anything can happen, like his shyness and his royal humbleness can win him many fans and success !

May his humbleness be his lucky charm !

P.S: Did I say sorry for this rubbish reply... naansense is thy name

The answer depends on who you speak to. Her movies are not your usual bollywood song and dance movies. They do have songs, but only to enhance the story and plot.
Her movies are more "art" rather than "commercial" and therefore not everyone's cup of tea.
I liked the movie Earth (starring Aamir Khan and Nandita Das) which is set during India/Pakistan partition. Based on the book, the Candy Man. It's hard core and extremely distressing to watch the plight of Hindu's, Sikhs & Muslims during that time. All her movies are very hard hitting and thought provoking!
Edited: I liked Water as well and thought it was really brave of her to deal with the issues of widows. Again, thought provoking. It shed light on the plight of widows in holy cities.

She is known to make movies on controversial social issues like Fire deals with homosexuality while Water deals with the lives of widows in an ashram located in Varanasi... Extremely controversial movies...

Yes, controversial and bold but also allows actors to explore and showcase the depth and breadth of their acting repertoire. Not typical bw...so I guess this was a diversion from the bw discussion - I didn't intend it to be that way.

Funny, when I mentioned Deepa Mehta I was thinking about Water in particular and how powerful and moving it was. I didn't even think of the controversial aspect. I guess the issue is moot because from what I know of Barun he does not like to be controversial.

Ok I'm going to be the party pooper here now! It's my POV SO NO BASHING!

Yes he is a good actor but to be great and in the same league as the KHANS, KAPOORS, KUMARS, ROSHANS, BACHAANS etc, he lacks the essential ingredients that of :

1. Honesty

2. Integrity

3. Empathy

I think Barun does lack when it comes to PR skills, he himself has accepted he's a bad dancer which is a must in bollywood. But he has done an excellent job in IPKKND and I think with a bit more effort, he can do well in bollywood. If I were to be honest, I am not impressed with MAMR or the new cricket movie he will be doing. But then again, it's very rare for an actor to get a legendary movie as his first. It will take time for him. Right now, all he has is his good acting skills, his good looks (which he needs to work on just a bit more) and our love and support. I don't know whether I'll be watching his movies or not - it really depends on how interesting they are - but I do wish him the best.

At the end of the day, everyone has flaws. I completely disagree with those who say he's going to be an instant hit in bollywood, because it takes time. I hope he does well. If it - god forbid - flops, he can learn something from that and always return to TV. After all, you need to make mistakes in order to learn from them. But I hope he gives whatever he does, his 100% nd does well in it. He gave ASR life, and he is the other half of SaRun <3 So he has my support and best wishes.
I hope I don't offend anyone :)
