felt like sharing some thoughts, since it kept coming back to my mind throughout the day.

been bugging me a bit, so where is khushi vis a vis her marriage? she has left home, because unse rishta kuch hi dino ka hai. the contract ends soon, the marriage ends legally. but what of khushi? does it end for her too? did it ever begin? i mean after the divorce would she consider herself single and get married should someone else come along? i knew i had a sort of answer but no "that's it" in it. uff jhalli on my mind.

walked into my old man's room (he's keeping a stubble just for me just for this week, kya bataayen) and asked him: so tell me, once the contract ends and the marriage is over, what will khushi consider herself to be, a married woman or an unmarried one?

eyes left computer screen covered in facts and figures, quizzical look at strange wife: huh!

me: no no tell me, you know her, you've seen her when she was forced to wed, you justified all her lunacy in the days post that, you saw her yesterday. so, what will she consider herself to be after the contract is done.

he without any further ado: married.

me: hmm, even i thought so, but why?

he: because it is so and it was done in front of god.

that's it.

khushi herself has given us a fabulous peek into marriage as she sees it on the day she called arnav singh raizada, what was it, character dheela? on the night of that spectacularly dramatic and utterly terrifying wedding of hers she has held out her mangalsutra to him and pointed to her sindoor and asked does he even know the meaning of these things? she knows the meaning, she knows these are forever.

and once these have been given and taken before god (wasn't it devi maiyya) that is pretty much it. or so i think she thinks, i am often wrong of course.

which is why she does everything as a wife would, she accepts his family and cares for them as her Arnav own. she considers rm to be her ghar. naniji has noticed how much a part of this home she has become.
she calls herself businessman ki patni, she allows shyam to slither up to her to save her husband. she tells him she loves her pati very much and is willing to fall to any hadd for his sake.

for khushi marriage is a lifetime thing, it can never be a contract. after her soliloquy we know she has grown to love her flawed, hurt giving man. but even before it we have seen she was willing to kill herself for she did not want her pati to be held responsible for her much needed (according to her and the tv astrologer) death. done in typical jhalli tone, light and silly, but fact is she was willing to kill herself for him, her husband.

she loves him, accepts him as he is, she is married to him. yet this man talks of the contract?!! remember her: kya?!! itna sab kuch hone ke baad... jo kuch bhi hai, jo kuch bi tha... aap abhi bhi usse ek contract maantey hain?! by inference, she obviously doesn't.

she obviously thought he had gone beyond that contract. with his bringing it up he hurts her immeasurably. at the basis of her newfound trust. that is perhaps at the very root of her sadness now, even more than what he said about shyam and harkat.

when the man she loves so much and who is her husband and with whom she has been through such a lot uses the word contract for their union, she is shattered. how can he even think such a thing let alone say it. but in khushi like reaction she hides from her pain and tells dm she is not mad at him. she isn't, she's hurt. i didn't understand that, sorry, queen of pagalpan.

oh she so adores him and his persistence is beginning to make cracks in her armour. but he still hasn't figured what's bothering her really, i mean really. he will i think, soon. he needs to make up to her big time, he knows why he brought up the c word, but she doesn't. so all that talk of haq and all she just can't trust. but there is no doubt in her mind that she is a married woman and this is her pati, if not why that swift comeback to the doc re the larger than life pati. because khushi is who she is, she knows marriages are made in heaven. arnav needs to understand that.

i have a feeling if i meet her someday while eating golgappa at a roadside stall and say to her, i believe your marriage is over, so why don't you meet this guy i know? she will give me one tight slap and tell me how dare i say such ghinone things to someone who's been married, don't i know marriages are for life? what she wouldn't tell me is how much she loves the man who thought it could be reduced to a contract. a bit of a parineeta i'd say in our madamji.
