oh actually O- is the rarest blood type in a world scale i think, but there r regional pools that r different..that is what i meant..
i think AB+ is as rare as O-, but it is never talked about as it being rare is not a problem as they can take blood from anyone..:-)

I think that can happen actually. I just did a mental punnet square. Lol.

Each parent would have 2 alleles for the blood type. In arnav/anjali's parents case it would be iA and iO- for one and iB and iO for the other. So the offspring can be iA and iB or or iO- and iO (and 2 other possibilities of course)...its something like that. Its been a year and half since my bio class so its all a bit hazy.

Aaah okay got it! 😃 Oh yeh I knew about the AB+ I went around for a while thinking I had AB+ blood, quite happy that even though I would be limited as to how many people I could give blood to I could take it from anyone positive šŸ˜›. But then turned out I was B+ :( haha!

Yes it is biologically speaking the RH factor (the negative or positive is independent of the blood group) AB are dominant traits O is recessive. If the parents are A and B respectively there is a 25% chance of a child being O and a 25% chance of being AB. In the United Stated Group B is rare and O is the most common. I am not sure about India but it seems to be O negative.

Being a genetecist can completely answer that this is completely possible. And you are absolutely right AO and BO parents can have AB and O children. Ofcourse the parents will be A and B blood groups respectively

My Mother is A+ and her brother is O-! I am not sure what blood group my grandparents were!
But if the question is can siblings with the same parents have such different blood groups? then yes!
However... they didnt have to make both Shyam and Anjali AB+! LOL

It can exist!

There are 2 factors pheno type and geno type

Pheno type is the letter : A,B,O

Geno type is: + , - (Rhesus factor)

For every person there will be two geno types and two pheno types constituting the blood. But only one will be dominant in each type and again each person will get one pheno type and one geno type from each parent

now if Arnav's mom should be A+ve , ie, she carrried (AO) (+-)

(because A will be dominant over O and +ve will be dominant over -ve)

and Arnav's father should be B+ve, ie He carried(BO) (+ -)

(because B will be dominant over O and +ve will be dominant over -ve)

(or vise versa, ie Dad A+ve, Mom B+ve)

now Anjali would have received A from her mom, B from her father as pheno types and +ve from one parent and +ve or -ve Rhesus factor (geno type) from other parent- so she is AB +ve

And Arnav would have received O from both the parents as Pheno type and -ve Rhesus factor (geno type) from both the parents , so he is O -ve

So it is completely possible...

Curiously Anjali received all that is dominant from her Parents blood and Arnav received all that is recessive!
