Nia lord Krishna pratima is kept because lord Krishna protects the palana against all the evils..there is a story of how he killed hetasur who tried to kill him trying to lift himfrom the palana..hetasur thought he would crush the child after taking him from the palana...hetasur was pootana(she demon's son).. he was wrong and got killed by lord krishna..that is why a palana should never be empty.I learnt this when my daughter was born.
